Hi, all.

I'm about to finish (for the 3rd time) Mass Effect 2 because I'm doing a Trilogy run (I'm a PS3 gamer, I've played ME2 first, and just now purchased ME1) and I'm about to get ME3. I was reading some facts about the 3rd game on the trilogy to get acquainted with the gameplay changes etc. and I've noticed that you can't play with the majority of the Mass Effect 2 characters. (Except for a DLC and even that it is a simulation, or am I wrong?)

What do you think of that? I'm kind of disappointed since I invested so much in those characters, and they are so charismatic. Not to mention if you choose to be romantic involved with some character of ME2.

Please keep the spoilers of ME3 minimum, because I haven't played it yet.

Thanks for your attention.

Wasn't really surprising to me, given what ME2 did to the ME1 squad.

But the Citadel DLC does let you meet with almost all of them, and allows for some more romantic content.

I thought it was absolutely awful.

Not hating on ME3 on the whole, but was seriously bummed by the way it treated all of the ME2-exclusive characters.

As someone who is a huge fan of the me2 companions I was very disappointed that none of them(excluding the 2 who were from me1 already) made the roster. Personally I found myself constantly struggling when picking a team for missions in me3 as a result. My main Shep's romance was an me2 character and the romance content for that character was reasonable (aided by citadel) but the wider content for them was somewhat disappointing due to their vastly reduced roles.

I was expecting a full scale of Squad mates combining ME1 and 2. Of at least some specific missions where you could play with each character from ME1 and 2.

Once you play me1 and go into me2 the squad change up in me3 is not quite so abrupt. I also started with me2 on ps3 and it seemed weird at first but once the trilogy came out I did a full run and man the me1 gets way worse treatment in 2 then the me2 squad did in 3... me2 all the squad from me1 is sidelined (except garrus an tali of course) and in me 3 it's the same for the me2 squad except atleast in me3 when you do run into your own squad they actually do some of the best missions with you and arnt just like oh it's you? Why are you back from the dead? Well I'm busy see ya later...or just flat out your a traitor!!!!!!

I understand that a lot of them will be appearing as NPCs in a lot of missions. But I was disappointing not to have them as Squad mates, managing their powers, weapons, commanding them in the battlefield.

I understand your point about ME1 -> ME2. If I played ME1 first, I think I would be disappointed as well. But I think some of the changes were interesting. They changed Liara from a rather bland straightforward heroine to a very grey morals character with the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC. I think it enriched the character, even if it was a complete 180 degrees change. And you get to play with her at least.

I noticed that Bioware treated ME as a laboratory. They started with ME1 with some game design and then they totally rewrite it for ME2. I think it was the best choice, because I thought ME1 was too complicated (IMHO). But then they changed it again in ME3. Bringing back some elements of ME1, changing the rules of Shields, Armor, Barrier, Overload, Incinerate, Warp, Slow firing weapons and rapid fire weapons.

I will play ME3 and then share with you my thoughts. Thanks for your replies.

I get what you mean. But the difference is that AT LEAST Tali and Garrus were in ME2.

I'm not really complaining that my favorite ME2 character wasn't a squad mate in ME3 (although that would've been amazing). I complained that none of them were.

I didn't mind it. Vega and Javik are great new characters. Tali and Garrus are back. You had to know Liara was going to be a squadmate in ME3. I could have done without the VS being a squadmate since most of their character development in ME3 was done outside your squad anyway. And EDI could have been kept as the ship's AI while still doing her character arc. Meanwhile Miranda deserved more attention given her relevance to the Cerberus arc, which dominates entire slices of the game.

Personally don't like Vega. I get he's there for newcomers but it is just a crying shame there isn't a representative of me2 exclusives for fans of that cast. I'd have been overjoyed if it was Miranda but would have appreciated any of the others too if they were chosen for that honour.

I definitely wish Edi stayed as part if the ship I liked her so much more that way... And Miranda would have made the most sense returning to the Normandy what with Cerberus assassins chasing her.... Not like the Normandy wouldn't be the safest place in the galaxy if Cerberus was after you..

And would it be too much to ask to get a krogan? I don't care if it's Wrex or Grunt or someone else. I want a krogan squadmate dammit!

Having no ME2 squadmates sucked big time.  There was no purpose having the robot for a squadmate. An ME2 squadmate could've been put there. As much as I like James I would've preferred a ME2 squadmate. If you don't have Allers on the ship or wasn't in the game an ME2 squadmate could've used that room. An ME2 squadmate could've used the empty room that Thane used in ME2. After Mars, Liara isn't useful anymore and an ME2 squadmate could've been brought onboard.

Plus if she had been on the Normandy we could have dropped the whole oriana bit redo and jump straight to Miranda getting info that her father is working for the illusive man or something along those lines..

Not to mention a lot of Miranda's arc seems to be about hiding and gathering information. If only there was someone on the Normandy that could help with keeping in the shadows and getting information.

I would never say no to more krogan squad mates :) but technically garrus and tali are both me2 squad mates even if they were also in me1. Also Edi was introduced in me2 also so to say there is no me2 squad mates is kinda untrue.

The way they treated Miranda was tragic.

Considering how damn-near impossible she was to kill during the suicide run, I figured she would've had an automatic spot in ME3's roster, especially considering the Cerberus-centric story.

Instead she gets a retread of her ME2 loyalty mission that gets tied into the main story in the 11th hour.

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. To be honest I find it a little bizarre how pissed some people are about the ME2 squadmate thing. I started the series with ME2 and consider it my favorite, find ME1 to be the weakest game with the weakest character interaction, but still have no problem with how all the characters were treated in ME3.

I went into ME3 blind and fully prepared for Tali not to be a squadmate if that's how the cookie crumbled. I wholly recommend this whole "go in with no specific expectations for the story" thing. It works wonders.

They'd be forced to share the room, though - work at the same terminal, hot bunk, have pillow fights...
