Even then, only certain ME1 characters

You might not have liked what they did to Ash--neither did I--but she was there. If you're like me, the beam goodbye and the memorial scene have no power because the people who'd actually fit in the role weren't there. So not only was I desperately lonely my first playthrough, I got insulted by the game pushing the notion that the ME1 team were actually my true companions.

She was there.

But at the same time she was not there.  If that makes any sense

I won't pretend others got it worse, especially on the ME2 squad.  But at th esame time, I wonder if ME2 cameos, in some cases, weren't a mercy.

My advice is to play the games. Stay off the forums and YouTube. If you are dissatisfied or upset or ecstatic about anything and everything come back and talk about it here after you finish the trilogy.

I would at least have Miranda and Jack on the ship since they're LI's. It wouldn't be hard to have them on the ship. If both or one of them are dead from the suicide mission have it setup the same way like with Garrus and Tali(if she's recruited) are dead in ME2.

They probably should have included Miranda for at least the penultimate mission. That mission practically screams Miranda should be here, just give her the compulsory squadmates role in that mission and some extra dialogue after beating Naruto.

... I've noticed that you can't play with the majority of the Mass Effect 2 characters. (Except for a DLC and even that it is a simulation, or am I wrong?)

The Citadel DLC includes the Armax Arsenal Arena combat simulator in which Shepard can be accompanied by any (surviving) squadmates from the trilogy.  Only 2 at a time, of course.  Shep + Wrex + Grunt is a wrecking machine.

I love those two with my Melee Shep, we all surround and Atlas and punch it to death.

Agreed. I also believe there was stuff in the game about her being involved in freelance work against Cerberus, why not bring her in the for the final fight with them.

What do you think of that?

It's sorta inevitable given that Bioware decided to allow for all the ME2 squadmates to die in the suicide mission - so obviously the sequel has to work without these characters.

It's disappointing, but it would have been tolerable had the ME2 characters not all been reduced to one-note caricatures of themselves. Mordin, often held up as the best example of how BioWare handled ME2 characters, gets reduced to the atoning-scientist archetype, losing a lot of the aspects that made him so unique in the first place, and Legion is really Legion-in-name-only.

Then again, the same can be said for most of the ME1 characters as well (the only real exception I can think of is Tali, but she's one of the sole characters that benefits from having the same writer through all three games). It's just more pronounced with the ME2 ones because they barely get any screen time as it is.

I understand that BioWare was pressed for time, but it's almost like they didn't even know their own characters.

Oh well, it is what it is. Better to have them all die off in the Suicide Mission, I guess.

Yep, if you like the ME2 characters, you will be sadly disappointed.

If you liked the story, feel, twists and turns of ME1 and ME2, you will be sadly disappointed.

If you like actually being able to control Shepard's dialogue and actions like ME1 and ME2, you will be sadly disappointed.

If you just played ME2 for the combat, you will be pleasantly rewarded.
