Forget combat mechanics, romance options, and environmental exploration. Let's talk about the most important element of any game: Facial Hair Options.

Specifically, in regards to the way facial hair attachs to the jawline. It irritated me to no end the way that somehow growing a beard would cause someone to become a sunken-cheeked skeleton. I know it's a new engine, so I have high hopes. But I want to ask, just to be sure:

Will we be able to have different jaw structures under our amazing selection of beards, sideburns, mustaches, and other facial hair? (It goes without saying that there will be an amazing selection).

Yeah that was pretty annoying.

I cannot play a male character that doesn't at least have stubble so this would be appreciated.

Adjusting the shape of the jaw, cheeks, and the position of the mouth while bearded would be nice too.

There were some beards I really liked in Origins and II, but the way it forced a set jaw just ruined it for me T___T I liked to make my character have a rounder face, thankfully the thick stubble was a good substitute

But I have high hopes for the frostbite engine, I don't think we will be dissapointed

Well, we know Qunari can grow beards. So there's a good chance. But honestly, if any race gets special attention to beards, it's Dwarves.

YES! Good man for posting this. More beards for every race. Dwarves can have big giant beards braided etc, Humans normalish style beards, Quanri just dont make them look like a goat. Elves well could be trickier, I could see them with more Hipster style facial hair.

Always a supporter of more beard and stubble variety!

I'm glad we're able to play as a less age defined character in DA:I. In DAO, Human noble was about 18-20 so you were stuck with making him look really young(Unless you dont mind not following the lore, which is hard for me), Mage wasn't defined but it was assumed he was younger too since he had just done his Harrowing.

DA2 was a bit different due to the time jumps, but initially you had to make him look young since he was only about 25 at that point. Thankfully Black Emporium DLC allowed us to change appearance, so with each Act I would make him look older.

I'm looking forward to being able to play a more experienced and older character In DA:I.

The act structure of DA2 was good for at least one thing; justification for having a luscious wizard beard.

Also; tip for beards in DA:O and DA2: The cheek and jaw options revert to their sorry sunken state when you CHANGE beard options.

1. Memorize the position of the beard you want on the slider.

2. Set Beard slider to 0.

3. Finish tweaking the other options.

4. Use your mouse to select your desired beard with pinpoint accuracy, do NOT use the slider or the arrows.

5. Voila! Beard with normal jaw/cheeks.

After this point, touching ANY option other than Voice or Portrait will ruin the effect.

See, I've never had a problem with SOME of the beard options as a human noble, 18-20 is basically the age dudebros grow their "fully sick" jawline beard/Abe Lincoln, plus I was rocking that monstrosity well at 17... so I guess the lore didn't matter so much in that regard to me because I could see it legitimately happening

I'd like to campaign for Honest Abe/chinstrap facial hair. SOOOOOOOOOOOO many character creators neglect this timeless and honored facial hair type. I, for the life of me, don't know why. In a creator that let's you have heard braids that stick out in five directions like some kind of maniacal beard porcupine, why they would neglect the #6 most trusted facial hair type (according to official internet things) is beyond me.

So you want your warrior/mage/rogue to look like and Amish person?

*Sorry to people who are not from areas where Amish people are and don't know what they look like.

Just google/bing Holmes County Amish People.

No. Amish has a more full bear typically. In that picture I linked, they actually have a separate "Amish person" beard type. It is less trustworthy than the Honest Abe.

Needs some floor-length beards.  Just think, dwarves could braid them, attach a weight to them and use their own faces as flails.

I fully support this.

As for the jawline issue, that drove me NUTS. For Origins, I actually used the toolset to make a custom preset for my main Warden (see avatar) and just used that whenever I played him. :P But I'm not particularly concerned with this trend continuing, as we're on an etirely different engine now.

But I do hope we get a wider variety of facial hair for all races (barring elves, since lore states they can't grow it, far as I recall.). I rarely play males without some sort of facial hair, and I prefer to do something different with every character.
