If it were up to me to pick the male LIs, I'd take Varric and Iron Bull, but I'm pretty sure that will never happen. A combination of Solas and a human guy (either Cullen or someone as yet unrevealed) seems more likely to me.

Yeah, you're probably right, but I hope that human will at least be the bearded warden. It's kinda sad though, that Varric's and Iron Bull's chances of being LIs are smaller just because of their race. Humans and elves are the standard races for romances, but I think it would be really refreshing to have a Qunari or a dwarf in there as well.

I guess we probably have to hope for three male LIs so Varric or Iron Bull can get a spot.

Guys, I got a good feeling it's going to be 6. This is the "bigger, better" game, so far EVERYTHING we like about a dragon age game has gotten the "bigger, better" treatment. I would love 6 romances, but I'm not getting my hopes up too much because I seem to remember David Gaider saying something about having the same resources set aside for romance in DA:I as they did for DA2.

 

Solas, Iron Bull and Cullen/Bearded Warden/Human male, or Varric, Human Male, Solas, or Iron Bull, Cullen, Beardy (so much testosterone)... whoever is chosen, I just hope there's variety   Double or triple human male would probably be the only way to disappoint me with the male romance options, and I'd still pursue them with enthusiasm

So far from what we've seen (which is very limited and does not include all companions) I like the physical look of the grey warden from the concept art and Vivienne the best. However physically I liked Alistair the best in DA:O but I enjoyed Morrigan and Zevran's romances the best.

 

Physically appearance has no guarantee of an appealing romance to me. Lord knows I made that mistake enough in real life, I don't need to make it in video games too... then again, the only romance I really enjoyed was Isabela's in DA2, but this was due to the story behind it and the fact that it didn't make me feel like a creep (Marrill and Fenris) or that I was being creeped on (Anders).

 

We really don't have enough information about anyone to make accurate guesses on how they would fair as romance options, except perhaps Varric but he is very likely to have changed since DA2.

I think that the perception is that people don't find dwarves and qunari sexy. The squealing over Varric may have changed BioWare's mind about that, but it's notable that in all their previous fantasy RPGs, the love interests have been humans and/or elves. It's not just the DA series - one solitary Tiefling has been the only departure from that pattern since they started doing romances. In Baldur's Gate, it wasn't even possible to romance anyone if you were playing a dwarf PC. (Or any female character who isn't a human, elf or half-elf. Aerie will romance gnomes, Jaheira halflings and a correctly patched Viconia will romance a half-orc, but nobody at all will romance a dwarf, ever.)

 

If there are six love interests rather than four, I think our chances of getting Varric, Iron Bull or the Warden improve dramatically. I have my doubts about that, though, since David Gaider is on record saying they weren't putting more resources into the romances.

 

They could surprise and delight me by giving us Varric and one male human love interest, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Actually... I'm still kind of hoping Varric will be bi. Varric + male Inquisitor makes much more sense to me with that "Bianca" issue that happend in past.

ok, i've been lurking in this thread far too long i think, time to contribute

 

so here is my take on it:

 

Since Gaider stated that they pretty much used the same amount of resources into the romances, i would say we get 4-5 romance options.

As for who we get to persue, i think it will probably be human and elf companions. Since like so many other people in this thread has stated, it's just the "norm" for Bioware. As for who i want to romance, that would be; Iron bull, Grey warden, Varric or Solas ( i never romance the women companions since i'm gay), And this is mostly based on appearance mind you lol. 

 

True story!; i pretty much always wanted to romance a male dwarf in the dragon age universe, so when i played the dwarf noble origin (as a female dwarf mind you, since this is what i'm used to do in games that have strict romance paths, and that don't have M/M romances, which is a lot of games), and i talked to Gorim...oh my god...GIVE!. so as you can imagine when i played the origin and we had to part ways i was not a happy camper lol. Then later on i found him in Denerim...MARRIED!!! . Way to crush my hope Bioware

I was hoping for Cullen as a companion/romance, but even if he isn't a companion, a romance could still be possible now that we have that precedent from ME3.
I have little doubt that Cullen will be involved, in some form. Perhaps as the liason between the Inquisition and the Templars? That would give him a reason to hang out at the Inquisitor's main base, sorta like how representatives from the various factions could be found at the party camp in Origins.

I'm torn on the subject of Cassandra. I'd like her to be romanceable, but if the Inquisitor doesn't pursue her, I'd like Galyan (from Dawn of the Seeker) to hook up with her instead.

I hope you're right, I have a MIGHTY NEED to see them together again. The ending of Dawn of the Seeker was adorable.
