No worries Solas, I'll love you no matter what!

If Gareth is doing Solas, then he will have to be a romance option (though I suspect he will be anyway).
Cullen and Cassandra are already confirmed. I think the biggest news this time is going to be four or six, honestly, and not so much the characters (though I guess it depends somewhat on the characters left to be revealed, maybe). Six would bring a new dynamic that would be really fun to see the reactions for, if nothing else.
Six companions out of nine being LI still seems like a stretch to me, almost a dating sim, unless two where npc romances then I could see it working, it did in ME.

Also when was Cassandra confirmed
and Cullen is heavily speculated to be an LI, due to Greg Ellis' tweets (apologies if I misunderstood your post)

OH MY GOD. No, no don't cry Solas... please, I- I... I was confused before, but now I realize my mistakes. Give me another chance?

Cassandra wasn't confirmed as far as I know. I think people are using transitive property reasoning (i.e. Gaider wrote two LIs, Gaider wrote Cassandra, therefore, Cassandra is an LI).

Ah I see speculation once again, thanks for an explanation ![]()
Indeed. It's possible David decided to also write fully 1/3 of the companions in addition to being the lead, but I sort of doubt it. It's also why I suspect Solas as an LI regardless of any information revealed about his character (though I don't consider it "confirmed" since I don't yet know for fact that David wrote him). But it's fine if you choose to be more cautious.
I also would agree about six romances, but for the extra year of development. That seems to have changed the equation for at least a few things, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the number of romance plots was also revisited.
We'll find out soon enough, I'm sure.

Well, people are free to accept or reject him :l
Clearly they chose "reject". Poor Solas ![]()

I also would agree about six romances, but for the extra year of development. Suddenly, things start to look very possible, especially in conjunction with other statements regarding exclusivity (and that's even disregarding Patrick's bisexuality litmus test).
Well that's also making the assumption that all of the romances will be companions. Perhaps one of the romances is a major NPC.
I tend to think that Cassandra is an LI, but I wouldn't go so far as to say she is "confirmed".
I don't expect any non-companion romances in Inquisition. The last time David commented on it, he seemed to be wary, though things certainly could have changed since then. It's not something I see the DA team doing unless they can make it equitable, which I have a tough time believing is possible given how much depth is afforded the companions over virtually every other character.
I do agree that if you're looking for the strictest definition of confirmation, then of course no character is yet "confirmed". I'm sure it can be frustrating for people who are more invested, though, and I do apologize for that; I should have expressed it differently.
I think it's more to do with the fact that Gaider specifically said he was writing two companions, then later that he was writing two of the romance paths. Unless there are indeed six romance paths it practically confirms Cassandra is an LI, although I'm not taking anything as definite just yet. Mostly because I'd really like Cassandra to be an LI and don't want to be disappointed.
I'd be pleased if there six LI's, and I can still see Cullen playing the role of romanceable NPC, but they did say the budget for romance was not increased, which makes that seem less likely.
While I am pleased for the Cullen fans I must admit I would not be particularly happy with Solas and Cullen as the sole male LI's. Not that I have anything against their characters, but it would be the third time in a row that the male LI's are "Pretty blonde human and quirky Elf". Varric or Iron Bull would be far more appealing to me because we have not had a Qunari or Dwarf LI thus far, and even the male Warden, though I'm not particularly fond of him myself, would at least bring something new.
I'm getting the feeling that the only real "new" thing we'll be seeing is a female Warrior: Cassandra, and while I'd be really happy if she's an LI I would also be slightly disappointed if they don't explore anything new with the male LI's.

Hahahaha awwww. I wasn't going to romance Solas if he happened to be a Li. But this picture alone has made me change my mind.
I too am very happy for Cullen fans (and who knows maybe his Inquisition debut will also turn me into a "cullenite" haha) but with this news I can't help but glance nervously over to Varric...
This is so perfect. ![]()

and start to worry. We still don't know how many LIs there are. If it IS six, his chances are still good I suppose. I told myself not to get my hopes up again but I can't help it. I really, really hope he is an LI this time (and Iron bull too if possible) but all we can do is wait until Brian Bloom also decides to tweet some good news.
My only worry is that Mary Kirby is the queen of writing these fantastic characters... and then they're not romancable. Devious. So, as much as I love Varric and Vivi, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them won't welcome the Inquisitor's advances.
Also, three hundred points to Bioware if Varric isn't Inquisitor romancable but he hooks up with Cassandra anyways. I will laaaaugh and laugh. And cry and be insanely happy because I shiiiiiiiiip it.
Call me spiteful, but a romance in which the game bugs out, crashes, and corrupts the save file would make me grin ear to ear.
You're spiteful

Origins had 7 main companions and 4 were LIs, DA2 had 5:7. I think 6:9 is quite possible.

Yep
Hoping it takes after Mass Effect 3 in the vein of having some romances that don't necessarily need to follow you into battle. Those worked out really nicely... except for when Traynor said she only liked chicks and then mysteriously lost to her adversary in space chess.
I just know I'm going to finish this game wanting to romance the female Inquisitor.
This seems as good of a thread as any as it's a romance themed thread, but I was talking with some friends and BioWare games came up, and we actually wondered "How would people react if there were no romances?" (But presumably replaced with some other type of writing content instead)
I'm not saying DAI has no romances, but I'm just curious how many people simply expect them to be there, and if they weren't there, would be more than a little disappointed.

I might not buy the game to be honest lol Keep in mind I only own about 5-6 games total.
