Yeah I gotta say I LOVED that about Anders. I thought Zevran was pretty forthcoming as well, and it was fantastic.

It's such a shame it caused such a negative stir. I'm sure it was only a tiny minority that hated it, but looks like they were the most outspoken. And those same people probably didn't care that Isabella was just as forthcoming.

Oops I forgot all about Zevran lol!

Yeah, I liked it all, Z, A, and I. I think DA did a really great job in balancing those options out in DA2. Isabela/Anders as being more forthcoming, while Merrill and Fenris took a little more warming up. Origins was sort of like that as well, not as heavy. I hope DA:I carries it out, too.

Can you think of one that felt "normal" that you liked? I actually thought Alistair's romance was absolutely fantastic, minus the complications of the end that is.  :P I've heard fantastic things about the Ser Gilmore romance... have yet to try that one out.

I adore Zevran's romance to itty-bitty pieces, and I think that one's pretty normal.  And, while it's not my favorite, Isabela's romance is pretty normal, for DA2.  :D

I don't know if there is a "normal" romance in Dragon Age. "Pretty normal" is about as close as it gets, I think.

I don't think Vivienne will even be a romance.

It's a sad thought, but I think you're right.  :(

I personally am okay with companions making the first move.  In fact, it can be kind of hot.

However, after having my gay Shepard fend off flirts from about over a half dozen ladies in the ME series, I'm kind of tired of it.  Plus, the dudebros' heads will explode if another male makes a move on their PC, so I think in general, it's better to make the player make the first move.

OT:  Wow, am I glad that I missed that debacle that just went down.  Nice job on troll brigade, all.

I feel the same way about ME. It was highly annoying. Every lady under the sun wanted to get into Shepard's pants. I think DA does it way better - a lot fewer characters who are so bold, and it's not just women but men in that mix too.

Those are my two favourite romances in the DA series  :) Though I also like Morrigan's a lot!

I liked Zevran, but I didn't think it was all that normal.  If anything, he seemed to be using my Warden as some sort of redemption, and he seemed to love the idea of being alive more than he loved her.  That's my perception though.

I found that Merrill had the most traditional and sweetest relationship.  Isabela running off in Act 2 and leaving me to deal with the Qunari struck me as atypical of a good relationship.  Overall though, I agree with your point.  "Normal" is always subjective, especially in a fantasy game.

I'm sure it was meant tongue-in-cheek, so I responded in kind.

I was referring to shifting the conversation back in topic not bioware game policy :P

Agreed.

I wouldn't mind if a few LI made the first move, but only if turning them down is is easy. Perhaps if the LI makes a possibly-flirty statement you can follow up with a Heart-Icon'd phrase, and that would mean you accept the flirt. Otherwise, you ignore it, they ignore it, and they never bring it up again, but you can instigate it later.

That happens with Fenris you can flirt, take it as a compliment and move on or jump down his throat. It was lovely.

No worries.  One of the other mods is helping us out right now.  I'll report, ignore and stay on topic, good sir.  I'd rather not see this get shut down due to a few folks with destructive comments.

I put off romancing Merrill for over 20 playthroughs because she seemed so young to me. And also desperately lonely. Which, yanno, made me feel like Hawke was taking advantage of being the only one around.

Zevran's was okay, but his flirting seemed reflexive more than out of genuine desire...if you work at it, it gets better...but it takes a while to get there.

Yes!! I loved Merrill but for some reason, the one time I played as a m!Hawke, I couldn't romance her because I felt way too guilty. As a female, it was oddly easier.

I also didn't romance Merrill until recently due to her naivete.  I just couldn't do it as a female Hawke.  However, on my first male Hawke, I gave it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised.  Merrill has more of a strength of character and conviction than a friendship or rival platonic session would have you believe.  Now that I've done all three (I refuse to do rivalmances,) I saw another side to her.  I probably wouldn't romance her again, since she's not my general type, but I was happy with the character development I saw there.

Zevran's flirting did seem like a reflexive move, which is why I've been only able to do it once.   Sure, by the end of the romance it was a decent payoff, but I felt like I had to wade through a river of slime in order to get there.

I do enjoy a LI making a first move, especially if said person is a lady

I do have one issue with Anders though, didn't he flirt with you right after you kill his tranquil boyfriend (even though this information was left out for my FemHawke)? or is my memory just a bit foggy?

I think the reason I love Zevran's romance so much is that I know it ends so good, so I can get through the non-serious start-up. It also helps that you can actually never have sex with him and still have a romance.  :D My favorite, ever.

No, your memory is correct.  Anders flirts with you right after you leave the Chantry after deciding if Karl lives as a Tranquil or is mercy-killed by Hawke.  I think the timing of the flirt threw people off as much as the flirt itself.

I know Hawke has a terrible flirting line immediately after Anders's big confession about Justice, but I can't recall if Anders flirted there or not. He might have.

I know she's too old (well she seems old for me) just like Wynne. So it will be Sera and Cassandra.

At least he's got a nice body, or something. There's another about liking the dark, tortured look. So much horrid cheese.

But does it count, I mean, you're playing a f!Hawke? Is Anders' past just different? Why wouldn't he mention that?

I actually played as a lady the first time round and thought that Anders and Karl were implied, without the benefit of knowing the M!Hawke line. Just by how distraught he was about it...and the way he talks about in ambient dialogue.

"So that explains the sexy, tortured look" is pretty much what Hawke says, I think. I remember that from that demo waaaay back, and I was dying in the Anders thread, hoping there was a way to trigger the romance later. Thank goodness there is.

EDIT: Now I have to go look it up.

EDIT p2: "At least he got a nice body," is the line. Still terrible. Why do I remember that line I said before? Hmmm....

EDIT p3 (because I do not know when to quit): The paraphrase is "At least he got a nice body." The actual line Hawke says is, "So, that explains your whole sexy tortured look."

I don't know, I didn't even know that Karl was Anders' boyfriend until a friend of mine told me - because I hadn't played a m!Hawke at the time. but not mentioning it to a lady Hawke did sort of bug me
