So all characters are bi unless otherwise confirmed?

I have a different view on this issue: They are whatever you want them to be.

That means if you want them to be straight, and only romance them with the opposite gender character, you can. If you want them to be gay, you can romance them with same gender character.

So in a sense, it's not about all LIs are Bisexual, but it's about giving player the freedom to decide which type they want the characters to be. So same characters can still be somewhat different in different play through, based on what the players want.

I still think it is gonna to be a mistake making characters for only one of the genders. Mostly because for it to be fair you would need at least six romances and all with the same dept aka companions.

I think of it is: they're all undeclared until confirmed. I never assume anyone's sexuality. Some people are het, some gay, some bi, some pan, some demi, some Ace. I wait til they tell me.

Same here.

Society already assumes everyone is straight until proven otherwise. Which pisses me off to be honest.

To me the romances are vital.  I was fine the whole way through ME3 until Ashley and Shephard’s last conversation.  That hit hard.  To me we were the ones who were going to go through everything together until the very end.  Friends come and go even when the friendships are formed through turbulent times.  But when you truly love a person and that emotion is equally reciprocated that’s a bond you don’t want to see broken.  I thought it was a really nice touch that at the end of DA2 they made it clear everybody separated….except you and your lover.  To me there’s a level of emotion you can get with someone you feel that close to that can’t really be duplicated with people you’re friends with.  It’s not just the fine folks in the LGBT community who value romance in these games.  I’m male, thirty, heterosexual and married.

On a small irrelevant side note this is part of why I’ve always felt like the ME/DA games are superior to the Witcher games.  The Witcher games have great combat, stories and villains.  But the interactions between you and the people who are supposedly your allies SUCK.  And the romances are even worse.  There’s very little emotion, no depth whatsoever, and it just feels like porn most times.  Mind you the sex scenes are vastly superior to what Bioware puts out but it doesn’t matter since you don’t really care about who you’re doing it with.  The Bioware games get romance right(most times) and their games are better for it.  Just my humble opinion.

There is one thing I worry about with these possible npc romances - because it would probably result in the 2/2/2 split that is a preferred split for Gaider. Now I haven't played the Mas Effect games, but I've heard a lot on here that npc romances weren't all that great - different team so its not much to go by. That could mean that there may be a romance or two that aren't as filled out as the rest because of maybe lower quality npc romances, this could lead to certain sexuality not getting as much quality?  Like say the Scribe girl and Cullen were two straight npc romances and people felt they weren't up to par with the companion romances, it would seem as though the straight-only romances were given less attention. (not saying this is a thing, because obviously two different teams) It would lead to similar issues for others as well. I don't know how I feel personally about npc romances, I've never experienced them, I just don't see them getting as much attention as companion romances, I'd be happy to be enlightened to it working out great (if it's even a thing that's going to happen in the game)

(also I apologize if I have any run-on sentences... I'm bad with making those a lot )

Anyone want to help sooth my worries? Perhaps the ME fans? :?

I also don't post here often because I usually feel intimidated, so I may come off as too formal

I wish I could sooth your worries, but your understanding of how those NPC romances played out is pretty accurate.   The NPC romances were really considered to be the inferior ones because they had less content and were, for the most part, the least important characters out of the LIs.

They were pretty cringe-worthy.  However, I'm not sure that the DA team will be the same, if that's any consolation.

If Cullen is an NPC, he would be a bisexual character simply because it would make more economic sense to have the straight characters be the main companions. Otherwise, people would complain about gay gamers receiving special treatment.

It seems more economical, to me, to make the "main" romances bisexual so that NOBODY is getting "special treatment".

If the split is 2/2/2 then the bisexual one be the NPCs while a gay and straight one be the main romance would be the best solution, ya?

yep. My thoughts of 2/2/2 were the bisexual options should be the companions while the exclusive options were relegated to important NPCs.

I see, you're assuming the 4 companions will be equal, then? I was operating on the usual assumption people have that there will be one male and one female "main". If all the companion romances are equal, you're right, this makes sense.

I would rather for more romanceable characters be tagged along companions than less. Also, I want to romance Cullen as a dude. lol. By what you want then only 2 characters out of the 9 would be romanceable characters instead of 4.

To be honest, I'm a bit concerned about the 2/2/2 split idea.  While it would be fair and realistic, I don't normally play guys.  What if the character I want to pursue is m/m only?  Sure, I could make a male character to pursue him, but I don't really want to play as a man.  And, what if it cut certain people out of, for instance, Iron Bull's romance?  Usually elves are bisexual.  But, there are a lot of female fans of Solas, and if he turned out to prefer the boys' team, well... there will be disappointed ladies (myself included, though, I'll survive it).  But qunari?  That's a totally new thing.  Granted, Iron Bull may not even be an option, but I'm positive people of both sexes will want to give it a try if he is.

It's true that would be more like real life--you can't always have the person you want.  They aren't always (or even usually) interested.  But, for the sake of a game... I'd rather every possible partner be available to everyone who wants to pursue that character, as long as they don't do anything to put that potential love interest off from them, even if it's not necessarily realistic.

I would prefer that, too, but I think  based on the evidence, it's likely that if we have NPC romance, there would be sexual orientation, partly to avoid controversy, partly because David Gaider stated that it would be his preference. We also know that there likely to only have 4 romances since David Gaider kept mentioning resource limitation and how he dislikes NPC romance. I think NPCs were added late in the game.

So it's clear to me that Morrigan and Alistair were the "main" romances in DA: O.  Who were the "main" ones in DA 2?  Anders, I guess, but who's the lady?  Isabela?  Maybe it's because I've never done a lady romance in DA 2 so I never really thought of one of them as "main" over the other.

You could say that about the ME2 Romance cast before the Citadel DLC.

? Um...no. All six would be romancable just 4 of them would be NPCs and two would be companions.

And it also avoids the whole why is everyone interested in getting in my pants? To me when it's mostly NPCs.

Most people think Isabela, yeah. I think it's WAY more obvious who the "main" romances were in Origins. I think it is pretty clear that Fenris has the least plot relevance in DA2, though. So, in a way, I'm a bit worried if they can make all four equally represented. I'm not ruling it out, though.

I meant in term of LIs among the companions, there would only be 2 instead of 4. More options would be better, and that would likely be the case since like I said before, I had a feeling that NPC romance was added last minute seeing as how David Gaider stated he dislikes NPC romance and resource limitation to do sexual orientations. It's likely that there would be 4 LIs among the companions.

The writers stated that Fenris' romance plot was written under the assumption that Hawke is male, so if there were sexual orientation in DA2, it's likely that Anders would be straight while Fenris would be gay.

Yes but there would be more LIs in general. It's just my preference though. *shrugs*

They did have an extra year to make the game XD maybe this was one of the things they added since they had time to do it right?

I'd hope not if they went 2/2/2. But that's just me not wanting it to end up lopsided since NPC romances so far tend to have less content than companion ones do.
