The writers stated that Fenris' romance plot was written under the assumption that Hawke is male, so if there were sexual orientation in DA2, it's likely that Anders would be straight while Fenris would be gay.

I romanced Fenris as a female and male. I think Fenris' romance is by and far my favourite Bioware romance, hands down. I don't think it will ever be topped. Just as far as my feels and opinions, I mean. Which makes me worry that I will be disappointed with the romance for DAI. So maybe I'll just play it like there isn't any. ;)

Imo I think the NPC romances in ME had less content because ME had a large number of romances to work on compared to this

This is why ME is a terrible example to look at when it comes to number and content to an extent

While it would be fair and realistic, I don't normally play guys.

I don't see how is that supposed to be realistic, the LIs only having gender as a restriction and nothing else ? in Thedas of all places, where people couldn't care less about gays relationships but where the society is heavily segratated between, humans, dwarves, qunaris and elves...not to mention the social standing or the mage problem ?

A 2/2/2 split is the worst, it shows that the main concern is sexuality, which is unhealthy.

Yes but there would be more LIs in general. It's just my preference though. *shrugs*

They did have an extra year to make the game XD maybe this was one of the things they added since they had time to do it right?

I'd hope not if they went 2/2/2. But that's just me not wanting it to end up lopsided since NPC romances so far tend to have less content than companion ones do.

I still hope for Cullen to be a rogue (Maybe he abandoned the templar order and become more of a renegade) or Iron Bull is a rogue who can wield 2 handed sword. I also agree that I would prefer for no NPC romance since I wasn't satisfied with Steve romance in ME3. I like to take the LIs on missions.

Sadly I...have my doubts about that occurring. Though iron Bull backstabbing people with a 2HDer is a hilarious mental image.

Same. I ended up romancing Kaidan cause it just felt better (plus you get better moments like the Citadel party, and the Normandy scene in the EC) NPCs romances just end up losing little touches that companion romances have.

If the 2/2/2 theory is true than Cassandra is the LI that romances only the M!Inq. I am going to be sad.

But wait If that is true the only way Vivienne is a LI is for the F!Inq, well maybe I am not that sad lmao

I felt the same way about Cortez in ME3. I ended up going with Kaidan every time.

I would prefer that, too, but I think  based on the evidence, it's likely that if we have NPC romance, there would be sexual orientation, partly to avoid controversy, partly because David Gaider stated that it would be his preference. We also know that there likely to only have 4 romances since David Gaider kept mentioning resource limitation and how he dislikes NPC romance. I think NPCs were added late in the game.

DA2 had 5 romances, it wouldn't take that many additional resources (only 20% more!) to turn that into 6.

Also, while David's input certainly is important to the game, it's also important to realize that he's hardly the only writer, and his personal preferences may be put to the side in light of what the team comes to consensus about.

Yeah.  I admit I always roll my eyes when people say that Gaider doesn't like something or something along those lines and takes it as not happening.  Gaider has an important voice in the company, but ultimately, he's not the one in charge behind making every decision there is.  Of course, you can always make the argument that when someone from a company says something, it may be a company belief as well.....not getting any real further into that discussion though.

I'm not sure the writing team alone makes the decision on how many LIs there will be, anyway. That seems like it probably has to do with multiple departments. I'm not sure if this is so, but it's kind of obvious that it effects multiple departments, so I don't know if anyone has "all the say".

Any character could be made bisexual since no character has specifically said they were ONLY straight or gay. What I meant before was that, if they do the 2/2/2 system, there has to be a lesbian and a gay LI and well as two straight LIs. Gaider has said on his blog that he personally favored that system, I'm pretty sure(?), so if there are 6 LIs, we might be getting the 2/2/2 system.

Only problem here is with 2/2/2 that leaves the hetero option with... what... one per gender? That's not "fair" either. Unless you mean 2/2/2/2 with L/G/S!m/S!f. Which isn't out of the question with as many companions as we have. If it is 2/2/2 I see it breaking down as 1/1/2/2 where there is one lesbian, one homosexual male, two bisexual (one of each gender) and one gender each of the hetero options. That way it still breaks down as everyone getting two choices.

Well, it would be like;

1 Hetero Male/1 Hetero Female

1 Bi Male/1 Bi Female

1 Gay Male/1 Lesbian Female

So, everyone would get 1 character that was only attracted to their gender and 1 character that's attracted to both genders to choose from. It's not my system, though, it's the one Gaider said he favored on his blog.

Ah. Okay. That is what I thought... Honestly, I liked having more options like in DA2, but of course... I had those options and liked them... but I only ever romanced Fenris... ((stupid white hair))

Yeah and people always use ME3 as an example of how well that worked... and I'm like, well, wasn't a problem for me as I had no interest in the straight options lol (well, except for the women; I'd totally replay the series if I could romance Jack with a FemShep, or even Miranda.)

It's a good system until until the one you want to romance isn't interested in your character *sob* :P

EDIT: All that was to say, I'm definitely with you in preferring the DA2 system. And I've romanced them all in that game! Something I've not done in ME or DA:O.

If Cassandra is one of the female romances, then I hope Sera the elf is the other. There has never been a blonde female romance in any Bioware game afaik. Generally It seems that the choices are better than DA2 which had the most abysmal romances of any Bioware game.

A whiny, emo, silver haired, oversized sword wielding final fantasy character. A whiny, emo, overly attached pretty boy. A tiny 10 year old alien pixie thing that looks more like a prepubescent boy than a woman. A filthy, criminal, most likely diseased prozzy.

I don't think it's possible to do worse than the DA2 romance choices. It was the first Bioware game I ever played with no romance .

I agree. I totally understand where people who want the 2/2/2 system are coming from and I understand why some would feel that all playersexual characters were trivializing sexuality and not enjoy how unrealistic it is. But at the same time, having all bisexual romance characters just means more choice, and I'm a sucker for more choice in video games. I like having the options open to me, even if I don't always take them all.

So I'm definitely hoping for DA2 style romances. Comparing it to ME3 isn't fair because DA team is different and it could possibly be done really well in DAI, but I'm still kind of bitter about the ME3 romances.  :P

Edit: I know DAO did it well but since ME3 was the more recent experience, that's all I think of lately. Plus, DAO didn't have purely gay romances.

Hun, how about you tone down the hate?

Not to mention... your criticisms... don't even make any sense, and do make you seem immature.  ^_^

---------------------------

Back on topic: I really wish BioWare could do a 2/2/2 split with sexuality/gender and all that jazz. The all-bi-LI approach I do favor over an unequal split, but it is kinda... odd to have the only people you can have a relationship with just so happen to all be bisexual.

It's not a perfect system but it is better than some getting options and others not.

*glares at ME3 (and Origins to a lesser extent)*

There was one fully fledged elf, which was Aerie from BG2

Yeah you're right sorry. What I'm basically trying to say is that DA2 romanceable characters all totally sucked compared to other bioware games.

Okay, but over 15 years later really doesn't count too much.  I'm glad to hear it, but that doesn't change much.

Upon release, in any BioWare game that has had dwarves in it, not a single one is a LI without mods.
