They fixed that in the Enhanced Edition, I hear.
There aren't any romancable dwarves in the Enhanced Editions - but there are romances for dwarves. They added a human, a half-elf, a half-orc and a SPOILER REDACTED.

Uh, I think even Imoen got a romance mod before any dwarves.Upon release, in any BioWare game that has had dwarves in it, not a single one is a LI without mods.
I agree. I totally understand where people who want the 2/2/2 system are coming from and I understand why some would feel that all playersexual characters were trivializing sexuality and not enjoy how unrealistic it is. But at the same time, having all bisexual romance characters just means more choice, and I'm a sucker for more choice in video games. I like having the options open to me, even if I don't always take them all.
So I'm definitely hoping for DA2 style romances. Comparing it to ME3 isn't fair because DA team is different and it could possibly be done really well in DAI, but I'm still kind of bitter about the ME3 romances.
Edit: I know DAO did it well but since ME3 was the more recent experience, that's all I think of lately. Plus, DAO didn't have purely gay romances.
I wouldn't call ME doing it well though. A 1,000 kudos for Traynor and Cortez and they certainly patted themselves on the backs for them. Which. YAY. I love them. BUT. two well written homosexuals romances doesn't excuse them from the craptacular treatment that Femshep got in comparison to BroShep during Mass Effect 3. Having completely forgotten Thane until the last minute (even his animations with a romanced Femshep were off) to... Jacob... Well... we won't speak about Jacob. I would've given them a pass if Garrus had been romancable without a ME2 romance save... but well...
The Dragon Age 2 options are honestly, the best we have ever gotten... content wise. The only time Mass Effect could be considered superior is if you were Broshep.
I don't think its a case of MaleShep getting preference, plenty of people will complain about Miranda and Jack's romances being rushed, poorly written, etc..
The issue was the focus on certain romances over others, especially team Dextro and Liara most of all.
There is that, but at least they existed. It is entirely possible for a Femshep to come into Mass Effect with ONLY LIARA AND TRAYNOR as their options. Fetishist lesbianism is not "doing it well".
I definitely can't consider ME's romance system better than the DA system, since I had to wait until the third game to get a m/m relationship AT ALL and then one of the offerings was an NPC that had zero plot relevance and only talked to me about his dead husband, period.

Oh I must have not been clear. I DON'T think ME did it well!

Ouch. Okay, that sounds like a rather huge let-down for you. <sincere hug>

Women got screwed over in ME whether their relationships were hetero or homosexual. I'm a Jennifer Hale fan so I played through as a female a few times. Garrus was the only relationship worth a damn. Good lord my jaw dropped at the horror of the exchanges with Jacob.
The ONLY benefit I would give ME over DA is writing characters that have unique personalities and sexual orientations. They wrote an awesome lesbian and gay man for Mass Effect 3. They wrote a lovely coming out speech for Kaidan with BroShep. What they DID do for woman was overly sexualize each and every female companion AND ignore most of Femshep's romance options other than the HOT GIRL ON GIRL ACTIOn. What I give them demerits for is their biased and unequal treatment of female characters the likes we haven't seen since Baldur's Gate's guys get three romance options and girls get ONE.

Yeah...Mass Effect didn't have the best track record if you played a straight FemShep or you played a gay male Shep.
I am still curious as to why Kaidan was made available to both, but not Ashley, perhaps the writers felt it didn't fit her character, in which case its acceptable if annoying, if it was laziness or lack of time to implement I would be less sympathetic.
I've always assumed that Jacob and Thane getting shafted was a coincidence, and not a deliberate move to push FemSheps to lesbian romances, but what do I know?
That never made sense to me either, because I was actually planning a f/f Shep for ME3 because they rumored it was going to happen... then it didn't. There was nothing about her character that made her seem like she wouldn't be into "THE Commander Shepard".

I'm genuinely interested in your response here because I thought that you were in favor of restricting romances based on gender (as well as other things). So I'm curious as to why you would be disappointed with Ashley not being bisexual in ME 3, particularly when you seem to be suggesting that if Kaidan is bisexual, they both should be.
Er, would you guys be willing steer back from the ME talk again and get back to comparing Dragon Age romance systems please?
If I was the guy who decided the romances I wouldn't have made Kaidan available to MaleSheps in the first place due to his priorly stated interest in women.I'm genuinely interested in your response here because I thought that you were in favor of restricting romances based on gender (as well as other things). Patrick said last year that it didn't "fit", whatever that means.I am still curious as to why Kaidan was made available to both, but not Ashley, perhaps the writers felt it didn't fit her character, in which case its acceptable if annoying, if it was laziness or lack of time to implement I would be less sympathetic.

I still say that the m/m Kaidan romance is the best m/m romance in any Bioware game though. While it wasn't intended, it ended up being this great tension filled build up over the course of the first two games and then, bam, finally in ME 3, he comes out to Shepard and they have a really sweet, touching, supportive relationship throughout the game.
On the other hand, FemSheps cannot be subjected to Tali's singing, so I think it kind of evens out.
I wish I could use all my likes on this.
. It's worth talking about because ME3 did offer same sex romances, Bisexual romances, and straight romances as opposed to either DA:O or DA2Er, would you guys be willing steer back from the ME talk again and get back to comparing Dragon Age romance systems please?
Perhaps her religious convictions, but those are never cited in game for why she isn't interested, or in Word of God iirc
I would like to think by the 22nd century the "church" has moved past their stupid as hell limitations on someone based on their sexual preferences.
Anyways... back on topic, per Natashina's request...
How many think that Iron Bull WON'T be a romance option? Since Gaider seems disinclined to include one because fans want to fill a kink?

God yes lol. I meant in the grand scheme of things, gay male Shep and Straight FemShep got the sh!t end of the stick. Granted, when BioWare finally delivered on a m/m romance, Lord have mercy, did they deliver.

Agreed. Talking about the approach to ME's romances helps us determine how they might proceed in DAI, cause I guarantee the DAI devs took a good look at how ME3 romances were done.
