Where is it written that Merrill is a virgin?

It is very much implied. Dalish do not typically bond with anyone but their bondmate and Merrill was isolated from most if not all the members of her clan as the First. Put that together with her awkwardness and rather innocent curiosity about sex and she is implied to be a virgin.

People keep asking for more stable and well-adjusted companions, but when they include people like Jacob or Kaidan, they're being accused of being boring. :/

Not sure what's the big deal about virgins, in real life, virgins are usually horrible during their first time, not sure what the big deal is.

Yeah, when LIs say they're virgins George Costanza's voice pops into my head. "You know, they always remember the first time.  I don't want to be remembered.  I wanna be forgotten."  I obviously have nothing against virgins, I just don't see the huge draw either.  My Inquisitor doesn't have time to teach her partner the basics.

Edit:  This is just the way I see my Inquisitor turning out!  Loved Alistair and Fenris, I just get a different feeling about playing through as the Inquisitor.

Sorry if I seemed rude about virgins or something :P

Seriously, after reading some post in here,I believe we fans can be a little shallow at times... :P

Eh, the fanbase is just excited. Romances are a big part of Bioware games to many people, and because we know next to nothing about Inquisition it's a large part of what we're gravitating towards. I'm super into the "Guess who's a romance this time!" but my top 5 favorite DA Characters are pretty much Shale, Wynne, Varric, Aveline and Sigrun so I readily acknowledge that non-romanceable characters add a great deal to the game.

I feel like most people are the same way, in the absence of any real information, the "Let's see if it's romance-able!" ideas get blown out of proportion. Half of the thread about Vivienne is about how classy she is, and that's because we know stuff about her.

I just want someone fun, funny, pleasant, and/or humorous. The brooding Byronic Anti-Hero has become such an overused romantic stock character that I can't tell you how REFRESHING Alistair and Zevran were in Origins. Yes, Alistair had the potential to be a heart-breaker, and Zevran was a "bad boy" seductive assassin and might not prove the most loyal if you don't earn his loyalty first... but they were just so chipper and funny! You could help them with their problems, but it was such a small part of the overall romance, and they still tried to smile and joke about it.

Anders and Zevran were angry homeless men. The quintessential brooding Byronic Heroes. Broken bad boys in need of "fixing."

While I rather liked them, I don't want to see romances like them again. I want a character who's just fun to be around.

In games some people probably dig it because those characters are usually like, "Oh hero....I've never even thought about sharing myself with someone like that until you came along with your awesomely epic awesomeness! No one can compare to you!"

I on the other hand, find that worthy of a thousand facepalms.

Is it me, or did Cassandra get a boyfriend in that anime movie? I don't need some other dude's leftovers.

Welcome to the female gamers' lives.

The PRIIIIIIIIZE...

*Has traumatic flashback*   Please don't take me back there.

Hi, my name is n2nw and I'm a romanceaholic.  But Jacob's romance almost made me come clean.   What a waste of a gorgeous, hot npc.  And he was nice, too!  *takes deep breath and thinks of Kaidan*

I agree. I wouldn't mind a little angst in the relationship (no Dark Rituals, though, if you please), but I don't want to have to fix anyone.  And I like someone I can play with....that is, joke around with. *eyebrow waggle*  I liked Alistair and Zevran teasing me and being able to tease them back.  I wouldn't have minded Anders and Fenris' brooding from time to time, but they were all brood and no play.

I wasn't really talking about the excitement people may have about potential romances,really...And I count myself among these that enjoy romances in Bioware games, though it plays a small role in in my playthroughs...More like an interesting aspect of the story.

I just noticed that every time a discussion about  a character ends in a debate whether he/she should be romanceable,etc...At the moment I'm more interested in their background to be honest...Though this is a "guess who's romanceable" thread and not really a character discussion...It was just something I wanted to point out.

They propably have, anyway this doesn't mean that I don't like romances in DA,It's just that when it comes to newly-introduced characters, there are other things I'll give priority to...

Im ignoring the virgin thing but Mahariel? Merill talked about the Warden a few times and her Clan said something about her.

The romances can be seen as a roundabout way of further customizing your character. Who someone dates, or ends up in a steady relationship with, can say a lot about them.

I'm all for a Varric romance, I need more of that studly gentleman in my life. But, given their track record on dwarven romances I'm doubting it's going to be the case... The little guys seriously get no love.

I hope I can at least flirt with him incessantly with my lady Dwarf :P

This is purely speculation, but I would suspect that there are only going to be 4 LI's in DA: I.  I'm basing this off of a statement that I remember (and of course that I don't have the source for.....) where one of the devs said that they weren't expanding the resources for romances.  So since DA has always had 4 LI's, I'm assuming that DA: I will too.

Since Gaider has stated numerous times that, while he'd prefer to have a variety of sexual orientations among the LI's, he would always choose to have equal distribution of LI's for PCs of every orientation versus multiple choices for some PCs and no choice for others (such as the terribly unequal DA: O dynamic).  So based on this, I'm also going to assume that this means that the LIs will all be bisexual again.

If I had to choose from what we know so far (which is really limited), I would suspect that LIs will be Vivienne and "Sera" (i.e. blonde elf lady) for the ladies.  I think "Sera" would fill the playful LI role, plus she's a rogue and we've always had a rogue female LI.  I go back and forth on Cass versus Vivienne and I lean to Vivienne because I could easily see Cass playing the Aveline role in being a serious goal oriented companion who isn't interested in romance with their friend.  Vivienne would offer a nice variety as she represents a culture (flamboyant Orlais) that we know little about so far.  Although the fact that Gaider is writing multiple romances throws a wrench in this plan.  It could just as easily be "Sera" and Cass.

For the guys, I would suspect Bald Elf Guy ("Baldy") as one since they always have an elf guy romance and he's being written by Gaider (right?).  The other one is too hard to tell.  I suspect that Varric will not be, to continue his role as the "bro" and, although I hope I'm wrong, I don't seem them including Bearded Grey Warden, since he goes against the "boy next door" type that Bioware often uses for the male LI's.  He's older, bearded, and muscley.  While that sounds awesome to me (and several others, based on past coments), I think he's out.  That means that it would be one of the remaining unconfirmed guys.  Of course, my vote is Cullen, if he is in since he fits the stereotype much more closely, but that's to be seen, I guess.

Stupid, sexy Varric.  :(

Two things:

1.)  I wouldn't read too much into a "like" (or two), so there's still hope for you and diminutive hirsute beau.

and

2.)  Varric is sexy and it's high time that we get a masculine hairy LI!  You cross your fingers for Varric and I'll cross my toes for the Grey Warden!
