It would be nice if the hairstyle you ran around the Citadel with did not have to be the same style you go into combat with. There are some hairstyles I would like my femshep to sport, but that seem highly dubious for use in a fight.

I always thought the FemShep hairstyles to be a little strange considering she is a part of the military. Same for Ashley in ME3.
The hairstyles didn't bother me too much for femshep though I would've like more variety. With Ashley, I prefer her with the bun

Well, if you're interested(and if you have the PC version) there is a mod that gives her bun back for ME3.
I never really saw Ashley's ME3 hairstyle as an issue. Women in the military do often keep their hair somewhat long when off duty, they just tie it up in a bun when on duty / in uniform. When Ashley goes into combat you can have her wear a helmet, so the hair isn't an issue unless you make it one. And in that case...if realism is the primary concern, why is Ashley going into battle without a helmet?
My only complaint with Ashley's appearance in ME3 was that her default uniform resembled no other Alliance uniform we've seen in the series. They should have had her wearing utilities like Traynor or the dress uniform like Anderson while aboard the Normandy. Or alternatively, they could have gone the Vega route and had her wear the utility trousers and a t-shirt.

I agree with this. But in regards to the helmet. Not every mission requires one. Look at our own armed forces in real life. It seems to be personal preference.
Granted we don't use full head helmets but I think you get the point lol
In the armed forces your hair isn't suppose to be past your shoulders unless you have it tied up or at least not touching the collar.

That's exactly my problem with most of the FemShep hairstyles

Well Dark Lord, I don't have the numbers here, but I believe most hairstyles from ME match the criteria cited by themikefest.
From my head I can remember a few that are definitely acceptable for combat.

None of them go below the collar (unless you count the bun styles). In fact, in the ME2 forums I remember seeing a complaint about that and the rejoinder that long hair would not fit a soldier.
What I would preferably like to see is a long hair, casual style, and a bun, combat style, depending on the context.
I could understand not wearing a helmet if it restricts your field of vision, that can be as lethal as a shot to the head at times.
I don't really have a problem with most of the hairstyles that are in mass effect, ash's included, as a casual thing anyway. most of the shep hairstyles are also suitable for combat, but some aren't. I think the problem is having loose hair in combat (regardless of whether or not its shorter than shoulder length), for instance ash's hair would be dangerous not because its too long (its not that long really) but because if it wasn't put up, it would get in her line of sight and put your/her life at risk.
so for female characters, it would be nice if we had an automatic "put your hair up" mechanic, where if you decide to go no helmet, or helmet off during mission convos then they would always have their hair up. same goes for the shep hairstyles that are a little longer.
which is pretty much what you said

Guess I was wrong. Just looked them up. You all are correct. My apologies.
@SNascimento, I am not a Dark Lord. I prefer the version of Revan that returned to the Light ![]()

Boring!
Oh, screw realisim. So boring. Bring on the glamurous hairstyles, catsuits and thigh-high boots.

While you're at it, sexualize the men some more too.

I thought Ashley's phoenix armor at the start of ME1 was more out of character than her ME3 hairstyle. For starters, she appeared to be out of uniform as all the other Marines we see in the first game are either wearing green, camo, or black armor. Also it is hard to think of worse colors for someone to wear on a battlefield than lily white and bubblegum pink. You're might as well have a neon sign advertising your position to the enemy.
On the bright side you can swap it out for looted Scorpion armor during the first mission...but still. Why was she in phoenix armor in the first place? And I do wonder how many who gripe about Ashley's 'untactical' or 'unrealistic' hair in ME3 had her running around in Phoenix armor, or one of the bright red alternatives, for the entire first game.

So, putting Wrex in the pink and white armor would be appropriate after all. Krogan do love to fight. ![]()

Phoenix armor? Poor Wrex. ![]()
I'd say something like this has definite viability. Mass Effect has never had a great emphasis on realism, but this would make for a happy medium. I'm not expecting someone to go from a mohawk to a buzz cut or anythingso for female characters, it would be nice if we had an automatic "put your hair up" mechanic, where if you decide to go no helmet, or helmet off during mission convos then they would always have their hair up. same goes for the shep hairstyles that are a little longer.
Although I'm not that nit-picky about "combat hairstyle realism", I have an idea.
Even though your main physical features are "locked" right from the start, certain features could be altered during the game.
FEMALE CHARACTER: hairstyle (including color) and make-up.
MALE CHARACTER: hairstyle (including color) and facial hair.
I also have an idea on how this could be done. Remember the captain's quarters bathroom on the Normandy? There was a useless mirror there. So, on ME4, assuming we have a spaceship or some headquarters, you go to your room, go to the bathroom, and the mirror can be "activated", accessing the "character editing" screen to make any of those secondary customizations. Voilá.

True, it didn't have a great emphasis on realism, but it certainly did have it in sight. So I dare say we wouldn't see something like this is the ME universe:
So, more options are generally good, but not when they hurt the creation of a coherent universe.

I have to ask. What is that from? lol
Resident Evil Revelations, but she was a minor character, the design for the main characters are mostly good.
Sad thing is Rachel was the most interesting character in the whole game. Jill had the personality of the google translate voice.
