It makes no sense for him not to appear.  He is king in potentially lots of playthroughs, and in Bioware's default world state. You would think the king would want to be involved when the fate of Ferelden hangs in the balance.

He appeared in DA2 when there was no need for him to, and he won't appear in DA:I when there is every reason for him to?  I don't think so.

If hes confined to those world states then maybe. Would still just assume Bioware skirted around direct interaction with the throne and just talked about who ever is on it.

Which is why I'm willing to bet its a different VA

Yeah, but why would they do that? That makes no sense either.

He has a very distinctive voice, I can't see them changing it.

I'm glad he isn't appearing. Doesn't really have a reason to appear.

Especially since he's a miserable, wandering drunk in my game. *evil laugh that ends in cough*

If he's king I think he actually has good reason to appear. I'm sure Fereldan will be in chaos and when The Inquisition comes to help - No input/interaction with the king himself? I think he'd want to have some say in the Inquisitions actions in his lands.

But if he's just a drunk, yeah no reason to appear. Unless something severe happens with The Grey Wardens.

Not an uncommon point of view.I'm a romantic, absolutely adored reuniting with Garrus, Tali, Wrex and the Liara in ME2 of the ME trilogy.I likes new characters too, but old favorites will always by default be superior until proven otherwise by the new cast and call. So either way, I win.

Fair point, I enjoyed the return of the ME characters alot myself. However there is a major difference between the *quality* of the reappearances between ME and DA games, all the DA cameos have just been poorly done and meaningless. Hence my wish for it to stop.

Me neither. Do they have any idea how many people that would upset? Alistair is a major character. It would be almost as big a deal as giving Morrigan a different voice.

I'm pretty sure a truckload of fans would walk to Edmonton and protest tbh.

I still have a special place in my heart over these things after speaking directly with Mordin's ME2 voice actor, Michael Beattie, on several occasions and helping to kickstart that fan campaign to ensure his return. His replacement VA in ME3 did an admirable job, but Beattie was superior and I'll always miss him.

But even if Steve isn't back, that doesn't mean Alistair isn't either, and that's important to consider.

It happened to Mordin whose voice was very distinctive....

They could change it.  The male Sith Warrior in SWTOR sounds so much like evil!Alistair that for a very, very long time I refused to believe that it wasn't Steve Valentine.  If they chose to, for instance, take Alistair down a darker path or something... they could use the Sith Warrior voice and potentially be justified in their decision, I think.

But the very idea is entirely speculative.

Why does Alistair personally have to show up? He doesn't know the Inquisitor. He may just send an envoy, or if we're going to Redcliffe, we'll probably be dealing with Teagan.

Right, besides people's voices tend to change within a 10 year span. Though Steve was still great and he'll be missed.

Absolutely, but there would be an insane backlash and we'd hear about it for a month of Sundays.

Without specific knowledge of the story, there's absolutely no way you can state this with any certainty whatsoever.

Maybe Alistair has either died, disappeared or Steve Valentine lied.

Could be waiting for future DLCs?  I'd like to see the DAO & DA2 gang get a DLC where they work together; it would also justify giving them a chunk of storyline w/o taking away from the Inquisitor's since it'd be optional content.  I can dream...

Yeah, but his voice changed between the first two games. They should stick with his DA2 voice though.

This should clear up any confusion, looks like a leaked screenshot of Alistair from Inquisition:

They did a great job with his model though.  The resemblance is uncanny.

Alistair can show up, he just won't talk.

Hell, a lot of people are expecting the Warden to show up and he doesn't even talk at all.

No, it most certainly did not. Yuri Lowenthal in both games. David Gaider has remarked upon this apparent confusion, which really is just that.

Edit: The only difference is that he has more to say.
