I don't understand why everyone is dismissing the idea that it will be a different voice actor....

Nah in seriousness, I don't see any reason why they'd go for a different voice actor of such an iconic character. Unless Steve Valentine were dead or otherwise occupied, neither of which are likely.

 

This is really unexpected (for me at least).  I always assumed his awkward cameo in DA:2 was meant to keep him fresh in our minds so he could make a smoother appearance in the next game

 

All we know is that Alistair's voice actor wasn't asked YET. There's still plenty of time!

That is the common supposition. It was never confirmed, nor did Mr. Beattie ever tell me it directly appeared that way. Only that he was never contacted for a follow-up performance.

I feel like if we should get more of a reference as he might be occupied with something leading the next game or he might just jump the gun send us resource whatever  But another they could be doing is maybe with some a little order sounding

I hear this a lot and I'm genuinely delighted his replacement did such a fine job as to make it seamless for so many players. Unfortunately it's very much different to me, and I think I would have noticed even if I hadn't gotten somewhat involved in stuff. But oh well, it's still a good performance.

I think I know what you're talking about. It is a tweet Steve Valentine wrote in February that he hadn't been approached by Bioware to play Alistair. I wouldn't take that as any sort of confirmation. It's too early and its not truly an official source. I'd say this isn't confirmed until a) Bioware says so and/or the game is out. 

 

It seems likely to me that, if he is more than simply mentioned in the game, his appearance will be brief, like in DA2 (with all the different paths his story could take, I'm not sure how much the developers could involve him in future games anyway). Personally, I'm okay with it. I love Alistair, he's my favorite character from Origins (I always romance him and I ALWAYS squee), but that was his game. Let the others have their time.

Fair enough but I think Leliana is the exception not the rule. Still leaves three variables.

Anyone with a PS3 who wants more Alistair should play Uncharted 2 - I played it for the first time recently only to discover that two of the main characters are played by Steve Valentine and Claudia Black (Alistair and Morrigan's voice actors). The way they interact with each other and their roles in the story just make it even more amusing if you've played DA:O.

I would hate it if he didn't at least make a cameo. At least if you made him king, I guess it's not that importan if you made him a wandering drunk, but I don't have that in any of my playthroughs.

If they leave out Alistair but decide to bring back annoying Leliana or Tallis, it's even possible there will be a certain amount of nerd raging on my part.

But I'm holding out hope that they just haven't gotten around to asking yet.

Well, as others have mentioned, it's possible Bioware will simply recast the VA for Alistair. Another possibility is that Bioware has unused recordings from DAO and DA2 regarding Alistair that they might be able to work into an Alistair appearance in DAI.

 

And if Bioware does recast Alistair's voice, well, the in-game explanation for the difference could be as simple as Alistair having a bad case of laryngitis when the PC encounters the king of Ferelden.

Not a biggie for me. I liked Alistair a lot, but that doesn't mean I want him to make an appearance in every DA game. Frankly, with Morrigan, Varric, Cassandra, and Cullen (as well as Flemeth, Leliana and Isabela, I'd bet my bottom dollar) returning, Inquisition will have more than enough familiar faces already. Get some new blood in, I say.

the fact that some characters VA havent been contacted by bioware, does not exclude said characters from the game. It only confirms that those characters will not have any voiced lines, besides there is still plenty of time for some recording
