Either Greg Ellis is very bad at NDAs, or Bioware is letting them leak a little bit. ![]()
Did I miss some new information about Cullen in the last 48 hours? The Cullen threads have become more active lately.
Link to a tumblr with more twitter posts. (I am keeping it updated)

He has confirmed he has permission from BW. But that tweet above is hardly a confirmation of Cullen as romance and companion.

The devs have been getting a lot of Cullen questions lately. My assumption is they told Greg Ellis to just spill the beans in whatever fun way he wanted.
I really don't mind if he is a major romanceable NPC, but PLEASE Cullen, don't take up a companion LI slot!
Me wants Warden or Iron Bull! Need manly man! No mage-hating pretty boy!
Bingo. That pretty much sums up anything I'd have said as well. While I don't mind whether he's a companion/romance or not, I do think Cullen's a decent character, or has the potential to be. A committed Templar who witnessed first-hand the atrocities of possessed or blood mages in DA:O, he then experiences both the same thing again in DA2, but also witnesses some really horrible things done to mages by the Templars. Have these experiences made him more hardline anti-magic? More sympathetic to mages? Jaded and cynical towards both groups? Having been in a position to see both the best and worst of each faction Cullen has gained plenty of perspective over the years, at least, which could lead the character in an interesting direction.
I'm happy for the Cullen fans that he's in the game, and looking forward to seeing what his writer does with him!

The other linky I provided has, at the very least, confirmed romance.
Thank you all. So Cullen is definitely going to appear in Inquisition and the wording implies he could well be a companion. That's more than just the wishful thinking we had before. Interesting news.
if theres an option to kill him, im doin it... ive hated him since the origins

Part of me is trying to calm my expectations, like maybe he is just an NPC romance? But I want to hope. By golly.
I'm really hoping that Cullen won't be using a precious companion slot.
Advisor or major NPC is fine, especially if I'm able to totally ignore him. Companion... not so much. We already have Varric from a previous game and I'd like the rest of the party to be completely new and fresh.

That's exactly what I mean, tho. He's being coy about there being "companionship" and romance in the game, not specifically about Cullen. Encouraging, particularly the "sexy" dialogue bit, but not confirmation. Not... yet.
ah thanks for that! So definitely both a companion and an LILink to a tumblr with more twitter posts. (I am keeping it updated)

Greg Ellis has over 20 hours of recorded dialogue. Companion.
As I said earlier, I kind of hope Cullen is just an adviser. However, just because there seems to be some folks who really want him to be a companion and I've been there before, I'm happy for you folks if he is one. And hey, if he isn't, look on the bright side. Cortez and Traynor were love interests without being squadmates.
Whether or not he is a companion, I want a conversation with Varric that goes something like this for Hawkes that sided with the Mages:
Varric: Knight-Captain.
Cullen: Varric.
Varric: I've been meaning to ask you something about what happened in Kirkwall.
Cullen: I don't think either of us really want to talk about it.
Varric: I don't...but I need to clear the air.
Varric: After the fight with Meredith...you let us go. Why?
Cullen: Ha (dry laughter). At least it's an easy question. I suppose there's three reasons.
Varric: Go on, I'll be taking my notes.
Cullen: I respected the Champion. Respect the Champion. He/She tried his/her best to help the city. I can't truly say their cause was wrong.
Varric: That's one.
Cullen: Kirkwall was the beginning of a war. The mages wouldn't exactly run to a peace talk if I made the Champion a martyr.
Varric: Very sound reasoning.
Cullen: And Maker, anyone who raised their weapon against him/her was a fool. Hawke killed half the city.
Varric: Heh...I'm glad someone knew that part wasn't an exaggeration.
I don't need definites. Partials are fine.
I don't have any.
I have no solutions for Cullen, or for any person, real or fictional, who might want to get into my good books for any reason. Trust is easy to break and difficult to build.
At the bare minimum, he'd have to leave the Templar order. Beyond that, he's going to have to take initiative and come up with his own solutions.

Aw, out of likes, but I do.
ah thanks for that! So definitely both a companion and an LI
So unless I'm missing something, I don't see confirmation for his being a companion. I see confirmation that he's an LI.
The word "companionship" is troubling to me because it could be "the state of being a companion" or it could be "he's offering companionship as a loving partner". If there was a tweet where someone said, "Is Cullen a companion?" and Greg said, "Yes", then that would be confirmation that he's a companion, to me.
What I take from this is: 1.) Cullen definitely has a major role (either as a companion OR as an NPC, such as an official advisor); and 2.) Cullen is an LI. What we still need to know: a.) What role does Cullen play; and b.) Are there going to be NPC LIs in DA: I or will all LIs be companions? (and, on that note, are LIs going to be all bisexual? i.e. Who gets to romance Cullen?)
Motion to make this thread the official speculation thread and change the title to match?
We need to reign it in before the mods do.

Boooooring...
True.
And I'd be interested I know that too. Didn't he only express interest in a female Amell? Not that that means he cannot like males too. But it would be interesting to see
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the BSN discussions if Cullen is bisexual in DA: I. I can already hear the "retcon" and "fanservice" shrieks. Ugh.
