Okay yeah, that tangent just completely ignores my point. As in him not being needed in the least to push his propaganda, it could have been any random mage.

And i don't have "hate" for a fictional video game character, do i dislike him in the sense that his character was a sociopathic war criminal? Yes.

1. This thing again?

2. I love how this thread became Anders discussion

3. They'll make Cullen DLC companion, like Sebastian in DA2 ;)

But seriously, I like the guy. He was prolly the only sane templar in Kirkwall (not mental like Arlik nor gullible like Thrask). So yeah, sure, having him in party would be nice.

And you are missing my point. Your sociopathic war criminal is another players war hero. That is what Anders is. I've seen you worship Meredith so you cannot shove your opinion of Anders as a fact.

BTW I did not miss your point. Whether you like it or not Anders being the person behind destruction of chantry made it more interesting both gameplay and lore wise and the fact that Anders was ready to die afterwards adds to it. Also what he did was never done before, openly defying and destroying the chantry with an unknown spell. It showed the product of oppression and hate.

Cullen has always struck me as an interesting character who's story should continue in future games, but I never felt he seemed important enough to be a full fledged companion. If he is included though, I don't really have any objection.

I love this and it's very true.

Your usage of Hyperbole is both annoying and unneeded i do not worship Meredith i do however grant her the respect of that position, dealing with that rat hole of a circle every day for ten years warrants respect. And no your point was noted and discarded, its basis in opinion and not lore or fact helped this considerably.

There was no need for Anders at all in DA 2 if i am being honest, Plot Demands could have easily fallen to any one, So your defense of him is misplaced obviously given that there is no reasoning that Anders was needed to push a button when any one else could have.

Honestly Anders Fan-Boy i am of a mind to merely disregard this conversation.

Are you trying to be ignorant on purpose?

Hawke's story could be told by anyone not Varric.

Hawke could have met someone else on the road not Aveline.

etc...

Everyone could be replaced but the devs decided not to and put a specific person behind those roles. They thought this would please the majority and it did. I'm sorry you don't fall into that category.

Your own sentence:

There was no need for Aveline at all in DA 2 if i am being honest, Plot Demands could have easily fallen to any one, So your defense of her is misplaced obviously given that there is no reasoning that Aveline was needed to play a role when any one else could have.

There was no need for Varric at all in DA 2 if i am being honest, Plot Demands could have easily fallen to any one, So your defense of him is misplaced obviously given that there is no reasoning that Anders was needed to tell a story when any one else could have.

There was no need for Merril at all in DA 2 if i am being honest, Plot Demands could have easily fallen to any one, So your defense of her is misplaced obviously given that there is no reasoning that Merril was needed to work with a demon when any one else could have.

There. Disregarding this conversation is quite good for you actually as you are making fun of yourself.

Also I'm a girl.

To be honest I thought the same about Isabella in origins.I didn't even pay attention to her on my first playthrough, who would've though she'd make such a decent companion in DA2?If the writers think he'd fit to be a companion story-wise, then they'll definitely give him the detailed background he lacks as Npc.

Lulu, Z, could you take the Anders debate elsewhere?  No need to derail the thread. :)

By disagreeing with you?

Aa i suppose that does make a certain kind of sense, if differing perspectives are such a frowned upon thing to you.

I like Cullen. I think his personal trajectory along the mage/templar debate is worth exploring. Also, a traumatized Templar is interesting, and Bioware does traumatized characters well. I would be interested to see him again, maybe as a companion, maybe not, whatever Bioware decides. His story would have to make sense within the larger context of the game.

Cullen was there when the poop hit the fan at the Fereldan Circle and somehow managed to come out of it alive. He was the only Templar on the bad side of the doors, to do so. In Kirkwall, not only does he manages to survive Meredith's insanity, he seems pretty level headed about the whole situation. He also appears to have excellent instincts regarding demons and the like. I can't imagine why someone wouldn't want someone with that level of experience on their team. Plus, I'm not even a writer and I can appreciate the potential he has for being an interesting character.

You just saw how out of place your opinion was. Your sentence applied to all characters which makes it invalid. You are not disagreeing with me, you are disagreeing with the game and the whole plot.

I've always liked this quote from Cullen:

"The templars are not a good choice for anyone who requires a strong sense of achievement. It is a losing battle. Every day new mages are born in Thedas. Every day, those born a dozen years ago come into their power. The best we can do is to contain the threat... and recruit more to fill our own ranks when they're emptied."

I'm not sure if I want him as a companion, but I think he's interesting.  He is a dutiful man who has had to question his beliefs repeatedly (befriended mages in Fereldan --> crazy times, believed wholeheartedly in Meredith --> crazy times).  He is the Templar version of Vivienne.  He's next in line to assume power in a major institution, it crumbles (literally), he's left to figure out who he is and what he believes in the wake of a huge shake-up.  His reactions to Hawke at the end of the game show he's uncertain of where he stands when it comes to mages.  The writers like to take a character and allow the conflicts to shape them and their story.  With that in mind, he's a good candidate for a companion or at least some serious character development.  Should he be included, I look forward to the heated arguments that arise :)

Also, I couldn't see him as a LI (though I'd like to!).  After his mage-y romance in Fereldan he seems pretty chaste and I don't see why that would change... unless my Inquisitor is just too sexy to resist.

Hmm... I was already considering the ramen diet to save up for a new video card.  This plan is suddenly even more... scrumptious. ^_^

Cullen can't take a hot shower without birds and starving elves from the alienage trying to eat his hair. Blood Mages and abominations stop mid-fight just to point and laugh. This guy can't catch a break.
