Interestingly enough, he and Samson have nearly polar opposite progression. At the beginning of DAII, Sampson is all, "Templars suck. The jerks kicked me out" and by the end of Dragon Age II Sampson is clamoring about all the dangerous mages, "please take me back Meredith, I wanna cull them all!"

I think he just jumped at the chance to be reinstated, and get his Lyrium fix.

I said it in my other post, but again, you don't have to kill a single Templar (except for that one jerk in a Tranquil Solution of course) to have a Pro-Templar Hawke.

I meant it reference to it being peculiar with a pro-mage Champion who sides with the Circle, as opposed to Meredith. It's simply odd that he's written as opposing her for being willing to kill the Champion, given that the Champion is killing templars to protect the mages.

Admittedly, it's more of an issue with the writing than with the character, but I do wonder if it'll be addressed. Mainly because I'm wondering if the choice between Meredith and the Circle will present a slightly different Cullen, depending on the choice made by the Champion.

As TK514 pointed out, Cullen has seen the extremes of both sides, so I think he would be a player's view into the templar mindset.

Ah. Sorry I misunderstood. =)

I get why a lot of people don't like him, but honestly, he suffers from a bit of Carth syndrome. Where only people that played a FemRevan got to see Carth Onasi grow.

Everyone who likes Cullen seems to have taken the time to actually chase down every little scrap of interaction with him or played a mage Pro-Templar Hawke, which means after most of the big Circle Vs Freedom quests they got a dose of Cullen going, "Wow, you're really surprising me all the time" after each one.

No, it was basically, "these mages are ****ing horrifying. You put in a good word for me with the Knight-Commander, won't you? I am ready to do what it takes!"

I admit it. I am a Carth Onasi fan. And I didn't even play a FemRevan.

Tbh, his answers is not really different to a non-mage pro-Templar Hawke, the guy doesn't believe in the Templars supporters among the masses anymore.

"It used to be that templars were welcomed wherever they went—for defending people from dark magics. Now the townsfolk are as likely to slam their doors as offer us a bed. The image of the poor, chained apprentice is a powerful one. And one the mages are more than willing to exploit."

Yeah, he's picked up on a little public hostility toward the Templars.  Even though there were tons of "bad guy" mages in DA2, whenever I think of a Templar coming to take my child away from me I hate them.  It would be awful to be a Templar, or to be Cullen in particular :P

Wouldn't it be interesting if you can recruit Cullen to be your right hand or something, even if he isn't in the party, but send him out on his own quests or something. Or Justinia makes him a Seeker to start rebuilding the order.

Considering Cullen's experiences, I think he'd actually be a darn good Seeker. I don't think he was mature or experienced enough to handle being Knight-Captain of the templars in Kirkwall, but I think a decade in that role has given him enough leadership experience, and his experiences in Ferelden and Kirkwall makes him one of the few people alive who can honestly say they've seen and experienced the worst of both sides.

Watch, Cullen is the new Lord-High Seeker in Inquisition since Cassandra is in the Inquisition.

I have no doubt we will see him, the only question would be his role.

I would be more than satisfied if this came to pass. 'Pleased' is not too strong a term.

I don't know. I've never felt much towards Cullen. I didn't dislike him but I didn't care for him either. I would like to see new characters but maybe it would be interesting to see a character we've known for a while as a companion. That way we get to understand him a bit better. We got some of that in DA2 but I still thought he was kinda crazy after Ferelden. lol

Only issue here is that Cassandra was still being referred to as "Seeker". Of course, whether or not that was just Varric being Varric or...

I still think that there is room for a Templar... or Ex-Templar companion. Of course, that is another reason that I think Cullen would be a better companion if he has fallen out of love with the Order. He would make a good foil for Cassandra and her pious Seeker-ness.

He would be if you consider how much trauma he endured. In fact, it's pretty much a miracle he's as sane as he is. Enough to know that by Act 3 he's beginning to question whether serving the templar order and serving Meredith had actually become exclusive from one another.

You have to talk to him regularly to get this piece of dialogue, but he'll give it to Hawke no matter who Hawke supports.

I especially like his bit about it being a Templar's responsibility to give mages the benefit of the doubt and not automatically assuming they're all lying blood mages you get if you side with the Templars during The Last Straw. Which is something the Order is horrible at.

Wow, not many say that. Usually it is all, "Carth is too whiny for me! Why doesn't he trust meh?!"

I am a girl too and honestly, so far all the male humans in arts and concepts are more good looking than him.

The pre-bald BEG from the War Room concept is haunting. So here is me hoping that they don't have his hair rendered yet. LOL.

Also, considering that there is a suspiciously Cullen looking dude in the War Room and the leaked survey art... they're kinda including Cullen in those.

He is LI?

There is a grey warden with beard and there is a male who seems to be mage. I think only these will be LIs. Perhaps Varric too but he is not human.

I could definitely see him still being kinda "crazy."  I hope if Cullen is a companion he's not portrayed as having fully recovered since it seems like he'd be dealing with some form of PTSD.  He obviously progresses through the acts in DA2, which makes it look like he's coping/recovering/healing/whatever you want to call it, but the events at the Kirkwall Circle could easily reopen his emotional wounds.  This is another reason that I don't see him as an LI, since PTSD has a huge impact on relationships and sexuality.  But I'll still hold out some hope that he's a companion and a LI >.>

Wait, are we talking about LI's exclusively? I thought this thread was about companion.

Personally i'd bang BEG any day. It's a rumour they have exquisite stamina, if you know what i mean ;)

Unknown. But I don't see them NOT offering a male elf to romance, but I totally see them denying the Grey Warden with the greying beard as a LI. Since Bioware has a history of denying the... uhm... older gents as LIs ((Looking at you Canderous, Sagacious, and Zaeed).

There's no way there won't be romanceable male Elf in the game.

I wanted to compare Cullen to male humans only as its not really valid to compare races especially when it about looks which is already subjective enough as it is.

btw people want Cullen as LI companion. IF he is not romancable 90% of fans will rage.
