In a fantasy setting (that doesn't really attempt to do realistic combat, nor realistic weaponry) I don't really find the cultural angle to be particularly relevant to whether or not it's acceptable.

I'm not saying it won't happen, in fact I would love it if Asian weapons were added. I was just saying that one shouldn't anticipate and hope for such.

Qistina: I have been following your country very closely the last few days (like the rest of the US Media, I guess) and I'm very sorry and hope you didn't know anyone personally on the flight.

Regarding weapons: No Warhorns, Torches, or Focus..Focuseses..whatever. Weird weapons.

I wouldn't turn down some nice feminine weapons though. Delicate but sharp blades, intricately carved bows...you know.

lances were fairly stupid as they had a tendency to break after impact.

But those were designed for spor use not for combat
If knight wanted to use something long in combat he would use spear(acording to wiki lance is long spear)
or iron cone(but that wasnt used for impaling but mainly for throwing opponent to the ground by making sudden moves to sides, which was deadly, becouse any one who saw you on ground could kill you easily if horses didnt do so)

Engine supports it, doesn't seem they're going to do it, though. Also, if there are mods, that one will be real hard, too.

There's always DA4.  If there will be one.

Problem is that you wont be able to use your abilities while you are on horse, and if they are planning to use DAII cool mage staff technique i cannot imagine someone doing it on horse

If warriors can forge their own weapons I want to create/imbue staves (or spellweavery swords).

yeah until someone breaks the with a simple punch. Wands belong in stuff like harry potter where they conveniently forget about actual weapons. a wand would have no purpose whatsoever other than to fling a small fireball while waiting for your mana to recharge. unless you somehow manage to poke someones eye out.

Scepters yes
Swords that have magic crystal placed in blade yes (i want this)
Walking sticks yes
but not wands like in potter
EDIT: unless they would require to write symbol in air (spells for one use
and it could be used by warriors and rogues too, like spell scrolls)

but its still bad idea

Wands never serve as melee weapons in any game. I agree, about all you could do is poke someone's eye. In some games (D & D) they have actual powers and charges, in others like this one (WoW) they're just repeat-energy-blasting ranged weapons for when you're O-O-M.

Staves are sometimes melee weapons (quarterstaves, bo sticks) but in this game they are (magic-channeling) ranged weapons.

I would like a sword that would actually make more sense in dragon age world, something like this.

problem is that light damage doesnt exist in DA

but if you will do some Chantry quests they will give you some paladin like weapon

(bonus damage against demons or against undead(that are practically demons) so maybe both)

You forgot about blade on its end
I hope they will keep that, it was cool and mages finally didnt looked like idiots running around with burned tree branches

Not sure if anyone has said this, but Chakrams and Faeblades all the way. They were both used in a game called Kingdoms of Amalur.

Faeblade looks too mutch anime to be in DA, but after some desing changes it could be possible
But it would look more like klingon blade :)
Chakrams would be nice to have, even if they dont return in real life, but this is fantasy right

Man if you're fighting close range with wands, you're not using them to their full effectiveness.

And do you think huge magic orbs on staff plus spikes and blade on other end will deal less damage than small piece of lyrium on stick?
NO.

I don't know about you but most wand wielding individuals I have seen seemed like they would be able to out maneuver a warrior or rogue that got close. wands are great for mmos but stupid in a game that has something that more closely resembles real combat mechanics.

Not true. Lances are good weapons to use against sword users, but bad weapons to use against axe users.

Points for whoever gets the reference.

Fire Emblem weapon triangle is the only thing i could think of lol

I am guessing you are thinking of Amalur and if you are I hope you realize their "Chakrams" are simply just circular boomerangs. Real Chakrams are just razor sharp throwing frisbee-rings. they are really just glorified throwing knives.

That isn't a weapon, it is an accessory. unless you plan to go around clubbing people with a book, in that case I am all for it.

We need more mage weapons

Like scepters, walking sticks, runes, orbs, idols, statues, totems,SKULLS,amulets and magical artefacts with unique magical abilities and divine symbols (or artefacts given from gods that is symbolizing that god,so it dont have to be just for mages) with bonus damage against enemies of that god
Old Gods symbol=bonus damage against spirits
Corrupted Old Gods(Archdemon) symbol=bonus damage against humans
Maker symbol=bonus damage against demons
Chantry symbol=bonus damage against undead, abominations and other possessed things
Aposate symbol(symbol of freedom)=bonus damage against templars(qunari and slavers)
Templar symbol=bonus damage against mages
