If the rumors are truly, the Grey Warden will likely be taken out most of the time. Depending on if there's another Rogue Archer, I know I won't be taking Varric that often(Sorry people, never found him that interesting), and I most likely won't take Vivienne out too often. I will likely use the male elf mage in her place, unless the warrior class is as useless as it was in DA2, then I will need 2 mages(If I'm not one already).

I don't agree that it was useless, boring yes but useless no.

I want to say no as we don't know anything about most of the characters, but honestly? Yes.

More than likely: Cassandra or the Grey Warden (will interchange), Vivienne and the Elf rogue. Provided the "leaks", rumours and artwork suggestions all turn out to be true, of course.

Will have to wait to see how the companions interact with each inquisitor. My canon Inquisitor will almost certainly be a Dalish rogue, so humans may not be her first choice. Varric was a favorite in DA2 so he will probably get to come along frequently. I always try to use each companion where their presence makes sense, for example, if we have to deal with the chantry then she will likely take Cassandra on that mission. For a mage related quest will take one or more mages. I do tend to like all rogue parties at times. Lots of sneaky fun!

While it largely depends on how group synergy works and if we'll need X class to do Y function (outside of rogues for lockpicking, obviously), I'll always choose my party by who I want to hear comments from. If there's a mission where you encounter a character from DA2 I'd like to have Varric with me. If there's something to do with Grey Wardens, I'll want to bring "Gregor/Grigor" (if that's his name and he's a permanent companion). Etc. Although...if Cole is a companion I'll probably always have him around, hoping for amazingly awkward/creepy/inappropriately hilarious comments from him.

Two handed berserker reavers were not boring or useless. Downright broken maybe. They turn nightmare into a faceroll. I had so much fun recently replaying Hawke as one.

Varric and Bianca, all the time.

I think Varric and Cassandra will be perma-squaddies for me.

Reason being because my first Inquisitor will be a mage so Vivienne probably won't be as heavily used unless I need a mage who is a specialized healer or kitted out to do extreme damage. My fourth space will be for whoever I think will be useful for that particular spelunking expedition (I'm thinking Grey Warden or Iron Bull) so I have one slot available for whomever impresses me the most.

Plus, I'm not liking the sound of the bald elf mage (which I'm hoping is just a rumor.) That description has me undergoing terrible flashbacks of the bald elves in DA2. Yuck. Unless he looks like a willowy version of Fred or Richard Fairbrass, then I don't want to know.

If you don't know who they are, then take a gander at I'm Too Sexy.

Where was it mentioned that his name is possibly Gregor/Grigor? I haven't seen that before.

In one of the videos (I've forgotten which one at this point, it might have been one of the Game Informer ones) there's some quest text to find Warden Commander ______ and you can sort of make it out a bit to be Gregor/Grigor. It's sort of a stretch, but it's also potentially the Grey Warden Alistair mentions in DA:O. Something to the effect of a bear of a man that could drink anyone under the table. It's sort of grasping at straws, but it makes a bit of sense if that's his name.

Ah I see. Thanks.

But the warden Alistair talked about died at Ostagar didn't he? I thought Alistair only knew Ferelden wardens.

Oh wait, I take it back. I just found it again and it's really debatable if it's anything like Gregor/Grigor or not.  It's around 2:48 of the GI The Combat of Inquisition video. the Quest says something to the effect of persue Warden Commander *becomes much harder figure out*.

I try to split my time between everyone somewhat but not entirely equally, so no. I have been finding this approach more difficult with Dragon Age than Mass Effect though for sure. Between "needing" a healer and rogue and some of the characters feeling far more relevant than others (which occurs in Mass Effect but not as often, I think, aside from the infamy of "Liara Effect" in 1 and 3) I have been using a few characters far less than others.

Poor Aveline and Sebastian.

What I love about DA2, though, is that it really made me feel less "guilty" about not bringing a companion all that often than in, let's say, DA:O. Because rather than standing around in a party camp, all these companions actually lived in the world and spent time there: Aveline's a guard captain, Anders is a healer. I almost never brought Aveline with me when roleplaying, because I felt she'd be too busy as guard captain to help Hawke anyway.

Just so. Everyone has lives outside of Hawke's escapades and you know they'll be developing with or without you. A fitting way to handle a game with such a storytelling style and one of its major strengths.

This is exactly what I did. I took Aveline for some "official" quests, but the rest of the time it was just Hawke and 3 of my regular misfits. I liked that the characters did their own thing and even visited one another.

For a group to be perma-party members they have to agree with me, and be likable.

In DA:O; Zev, Wynne, Ohgren,Alister, and Lohgain.

In DA:A; Velanna, Ohgren, and Nate, fit the bill.

In DA2; Merrill, Sebastian, Varric, and Fenris.

I suspect that Varric, Dorian/Nosforelftu, Sera/Elf rouge, and Cassandra will be my regular Stable of Companions.

I will probably use Varric, Sera, and Cassandra a lot. It's still a toss up on who my favourite mage will be.

It probably all depends on what class I play, I thinking my main will be a male mage so I'll more then likely end up taking Varric and Cassandra out with me for the vast majority of the game, unless a situation calls for more fire, then Vivienne can come along.

It's too early to say for sure, but since I'm planning for my first Inquisitor to be a dual weilding rogue, Cassandra, Varric and Vivienne would actually make for a good and balanced team.

It all depends on my party's need for beards, chest hair, or breasts.  I will likely vary it up from time to time.  I'll try to have racial diversity.

So far just Varric. He was a constant in my party in DA2 and I don't think I"ll be able to leave him behind in DAI.

Most probably the followers and companions that are the least judgemental and prejudiced / most open minded since I plan to play as a male Qunari mage in my first playthrough.

So Varric will be in the team. That's a given.

Cassandra depends on how she wishes work with/under a Qunari Inquisitor.

Vivienne with her prideful and bitchyness ? I have to see if she is more than her ridiculous clothes and pride. If she is, maybe. If not, she will be out.

Male Elven Mage, I don't know much about him.

I have no clue, in DA2 I took Varric out the most along with Merrill and Anders, I can hardly say which ones I'd take out in DA:I with only 3 confirmed.

Unlike most people, if there are old faces that I liked before, such as Merrill or Leliana, I'd use them, otherwise I'd have to see.

Well probably the warriors/mages just because I like playing a rogue and will likely be one my first two runthroughs. Aside from that, I guess I'll wait and see.

From the limited info on potential companions i'd go with baldy mage, grey warden and iron bull
