I agree completely. IF there's only going to be a set number, then they should split that content equally. It wouldn't mean the Male character is getting less, because that content wasn't designated for him in the first place.

I'm glad you agree. So understand when people say "I hope we see less of the male!Inquisitor" what they mean is, "all we've seen is the male!Inquisitor, it'd be nice to see something else for a change, especially given that there will be a set number of trailers and the more we see of M!Inquisitor, the less likely the fem!Inquisitor will get equal screen time in the trailers".

What they DON'T mean is "DEATH TO ALL MEN, GET LOST BOYS" so maybe try taking their wishes/hopes for representation a little less personally, dude. :/

The point is:

1) noone's bowl is being taken from in this instance (they aren't 'redacting' or erasing or ignoring the stuff with the male!Inquisitor that's already out).

2) even if it was, the white male protag bowl has plenty to spare.

As far as 2, I can't agree with, someone having more of something isn't a good enough reason to take it from them.

Yeah, no, I get your point.

And say there are two kids, a brother and sister. The brother has a candy bar but his sister doesn't and he refuses to split it with her, I think this hypothetical little boy is kinda mean.

You can't both 'support female promotional content' and say 'oh, but if the next trailer being of femquisitor means the next one isn't another trailer with male inquisitor...ooh, girls I'm sorry, conflict of interest, go find yourself another candy bar.'

I agree.

And that's not even close to what I said.

It was a Neuaralizer picture. I was hoping to use it as a "Let's drop this" thing.

That's literally all I'm saying.  It's only 'taking away' from men in that nonexistant content that may have been male-only is now shared between male and female.  It's just that in the past, all of that content would have been designated male-only without question, right from the beginning.

Don't worry i'm dropping it. Too many are misinterpreting what i'm saying and I don't have the energy to put it any more succinctly at the mo.

Point 2 is essentially saying that there are only so many games being made by so many companies and with so much budget.  There are and probably always will be oodles of straight white male protagonists.  If a few companies make games with other kinds of protagonist, or even shake up the general mold of the straight white male, thereby meaning there are fewer candies for him and more candies for everyone else, you'd probably... actually hardly notice.  There are way more games being released, especially with the improving indie scene, than most people even hear about, nevermind ever actually consider buying.

Candy--if we're looking at developers and resources as candy--doesn't just fall out of the sky.  As some people have noted earlier in this thread, publishers often even withhold candy from games with female protagonists.

You can't only be interested in fairness as long as things remain "more fair" to you, otherwise you aren't actually being fair.

Spoiler tag? I remember seen something like that. Sorry, doesnt ring a bell.

I was exploring wiki game lists for PS4 & Xbox 1. I found at least six more with female leads. Two will be considered Triple A titles where the others are more indie style games. Actually I might be off by one or two there. :) One I cant remember the name however shows her with bit of skin and a robotic arm. She looks like she could walk into a place with hundreds and walk back out. The fact she is half dressed doesnt really help alot. The other is another Croft set, which the ones I left out is cyberpunk, and forgot the other title.

Some positives coming along. :D Actually was trying to still choose between PS4 and X1 is why I looked around. I look at game titles not devices specifically. ;)

Sorry it was a slight detract but it does fit theme. :)

The one with the robot arm is called Bombshell I think. And its by some of the people who made Duke Nukem if I remember correctly.

Sounds like one I'll be avoiding.

I'm a PC gamer, though, so a lot of the things console folks can play, I won't get to.  I really, really wanted to play Red Dead Redemption.  Alas, they never ported it to PC.

And did I mention I'm excited about E3 now?  If they show off the Inquisiwoman AND they tell us more about the companions, well, I'll just be on Cloud 9.

You and me both...though is Inquisiwoman related to Wonder WOman? :P  Just that one of the oddities of fandoms they can often come up with several different names to name something and it just be all over the map.

Yes, avoid it. The trailer was.... .

Earlier this month there were some rumors Red Dead might finally get ported. (not to get your hopes up or anything  )

I am SO pumped for this years E3. Bioware maybe ending this agonizing slow drip on info is one of the huge reasons.

Yeah it is. Sorry, was only trying to list a few I saw that have lead females. One may not been necessarily in best of light though. But there are a few that seem presentable, have to wait awhile though. Maybe I should delete that one.

I will most likely have to watch clips of E3, the only game thus far I'm interested in is Inquisition.

Yup. There's so many unique female protagonist's (and side characters) that aren't even remotely similar to one another. Just as there are with male characters too. I think sometimes people are looking so hard for the negative aspects of something, that they are blinded to the positive.

You know, when you have to go as far back as 2010 (bayonetta), 2006 (eternal sonata) or even 2002 (eternal darkness) just to be able to list 8 female characters in games that you'd call unique... it kind of proves the opposite of the point you're trying to make.

Could you consider that maybe it's not really "being blinded to the positive", but rather that positive being as ridiculously limited as the others try to tell you..?

Oh, its no problem. That game was just particularly awful looking...which is a shame b/c having a woman with an awesome robot arm should be so cool :crying:

I'm hoping one of the two AC games apparently coming this fall will have a female lead. I would also love another teaser trailer for Mirror's Edge 2 or a teaser for the new Tomb Raider. But in terms of female led games, those plus anything from Bioware is really all thats on my list.

They have two indie ones but not interested in most of those. Im curious about Mirrors Edge 2, I liked the first one. Tomb Raider was good, kinda easy though was my thing, all the extra stuff was doable and finished by end of game pretty much.

I didnt check out the AC unity yet but Black Flag had that male protag. Less there is a new one? I am interested in the Cyberpunk too.

Assassin's Creed: Unity is supposed to be Xbone/PS4 and I would guess PC, then AC: Comet is supposed to be 360/ps3 and prolly PC too. That's the rumor at least. Unity is French Revolution, Comet might be another Pirate adventure.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a ways off sadly, and so far PC is the only confirmed platform (that I have been able to find). But yeah, that could be super cool.

This discussion is only reinforcing how much I want Inquisition to come out soon  Its gonna be so good

Yes I cant wait! B)

You know about Shadowrun:Dragonfall? Its really good and actually the leader could been more than friends to a male or female PC. I cant share more on where, how on that. :) Too much of a spoiler if I so. But its choices really does matter for endgame.

There have been many posting in this thread stating that they avoid games with a lead that is straight, white and male because they find them to be "boring" and "played out."

I haven't seen anyone saying they avoid those games because they are making a stand, that they avoid them because they are on a social crusade to make publishers think twice before assigning a default SWM character as the lead.

I'm just making the point that being a SWM shouldn't automatically be seen as a negative thing, they can be just as interesting as any other character.

Point being, gender and sexuality doesn't affect how interesting a character is, the writing does. Replacing Aiden Pearce with a black lesbian wouldn't automatically make the character interesting, as the writing is still so bland it overshadows much that IS great about the character.

They could be just as interesting, if there weren't literally thousands of them already, all looking nearly identical, with the same hard-luck "baddies killed my female relative" backstory.

Since there's never been a black lesbian protagonist as the lead of an action movie, how can you say if those design choices would've made the story more interesting or not? Not that anybody is saying that they would have. They simply want people to give it a goddamn try.

But seriously, you do not need to stand up and defend straight white male protagonists, there is no risk of them ever going away.
