It's probably my fault. I mentioned Hawke awhile back, then it got in Diplo/Aggressive.

But anyhow, the point is, I think Dragon Age feels fitting playing a female. In game, that is. It's like whoever does the marketing barely plays these games or something. The writers, on the other hand, are far more open minded. So I don't think people should let the trailers drag them down too much. They need to be improved, but in the end, they aren't that important either.

Well they're important to me not because I need them but alot of potential gamers are unaware you can play female. Just getting that info out there is important.

I think it's more breaking down preconceived notions about the gamer population that may not be very accurate.  It's just when dealing with large budgets and the risk that comes with them, there's an inclination to be gunshy I think.

Fair enough. Perhaps it's necessary to get that image out, for general gamer crowds. I don't think enough about those things.

I think general fantasy fans, who may not know DA, will eventually be enticed though. So long as they care about games. And many of them are already female. I think there's already a general expectation that it's a female friendly genre.

Yep I'm going to say the evil words "expanding audiences" :o

True but there's plenty who maybe haven't heard of BW and would be interested so it does help.

I was so happy to finally see and hear the female Inquisitor. Too bad that the male voice was used for the DLC (I guess?) trailer, but the trailer still showcased all the female companions and many female NPCs, so I'm good. I was actually counting the amount of female characters shown on screen during the show, and DA blew all other games out of the water. Female representation on stage was also significantly better than the year before.

(Boo for Witcher for showing both damsel in distress and woman as reward clichés in the same clip.)

Will return here to discuss the qunari mage later today! :D

Whooooooo can't wait for the Qunari mage party!!! I'll be late as usual because of the stupid time difference and work... *sigh* :P

I love how HUGE she looks, particularly next to Dramatic Hands (I think that's him, right??) in that screenshot.

Oh my gosh now I have an odd and inexplicable desire for my female Qunari to romance him.  :o

Would that explain why we have seen closeups of Cassandra, Sera, Vivienne, Morrigan, and Leliana, but the only male we've seen in anything closer than a full-body pose has been Varric?

I just watched a 30 minute trailer of the MaleInq. so I think it's just going through different options. I'd like to see something of similar of the Qunari mage, but not for any sort of noble purpose.

It's the Witcher. That's how it does things. It's not a game or universe that strives to be "correct".

Also absolutely stoked about the female Qunari seen above. Can't wait to see these gameplay demonstrations. Hope the Qunari is in one of them.

The DA:I trailer did the same thing with Lelianna , although it never got to the rescue so we don't know if there is any sort of reward involved.

There was a man being held up by the band of deserters at the start, and how exactly did the woman offer herself as reward?

Hold on now. Why do you care so much if the characters are male of female.

Thread is named "Could we please see more of the Lady Inquisitor?", just what did you expect to find here when you opened it?

Getting a little overly MRA right now.

Ignoring the veiled insult toward a woman who dared to have an opinion on games, I'll address the other point. If it's no big deal how things are currently portrayed, then it's equally no big deal to ask them be portrayed in a different way. If it's not a big deal to have the male inquisitor shown in trailers, then it's equally not a big deal for the female inquisitor to be shown.

If we shouldn't 'care so much' if the characters are male or female, then, consequently, neither should you. And us asking shouldn't cause any sort of backlash because it doesn't matter one way or another. But since us asking DOES tend to cause backlash, the implication is it does matter and you don't want the status quo to change in the least. "why do you care so much" ends up being a different way of asking others to pipe down on a topic.

The very first post in this thread explains very nicely why people care about whether the characters are male or female in marketing for Dragon Age Inquisition.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I'm really looking forward to the demo today, and the distinct possibility that we'll see elf and dwarf inquisitors (especially female dwarves, YAY).  Also the American accent, for both male and female characters.

Asking for diversity in marketing right now isn't *just* about female characters, at least for me, considering that we hadn't seen ANY sign of other races before yesterday, but the lack of female characters in video game marketing is a common enough issue that many people care about, again, for reasons that have been addressed in the first post and many other times in this thread.

I admit I had no interest in the first Mass Effect until my brother told me I could play as a female, same as Dragon Age:Origins where I researched first if it was possible. I come from mostly an MMO back ground where I have always been able to play as a girl and have customization, so generally in a game where I can't customize my character I will be more hesitant to play it.

(Obviously I will still play games like the Witcher and Assassin's Creed and male oriented games but they must do more to pique my interest as there is no customization--also it helps if the main guy is sexy 8D).

So I recommend BioWare to showcase the FemQuisitor when they can and the character creator as people like me are out there and they may buy all shiny dlc's like I have. :>

What would be cool is the demo features femquisitor showing off her combat skills and maybe what she may look like instead of having her with a helmet on. Of course I would also like to hear the other voices and see the elf, dwarf and qunari Inquisitor

Well, well, well. Seems my quick post was more controversial than I thought. I'm not going to bother answering, since Darth Krytie summed it up so well (thanks!) that I don't have much more to add, other than that my previous comments stands. I don't need to explain myself.

And now, let's get back to celebrating our female inquisitors. I'm so looking forward to seeing the qunari inquisitor in action! I hope we get sneak peaks of the other races as well. A few more companions in action wouldn't hurt either. :)

I always play Bioware games because I know they are female friendly, but the marketing has always been a sore point for me.  It does affect how I think the company views me as a consumer.  It does make me feel like an afterthought when the male version is regularly displayed and made the "face" of their games while the female one is more of a footnote.

So far, their showing at E3 is good.  It feels like we're being listened to an acknowledged.  It feels like we're considered part of their community now.  I hope they keep this up, and actually update the official site now.

This. So much this. BioWare games are among the most egalitarian games out there right now, but they still have a problem with marketing, alas. :(

Seeing more of feminquisitor is just so exciting and I feel like there's definitely way more representation. The Witcher just made me cringe.

Not sure why those characters, in particular, received the focus.  So I can't definitively say yes or no to whether or not it was a conscious decision or if other factors led to it happening.
