You use this "fall back" position a lot, and frankly, it makes it hard for me to take you seriously. There is such a thing as going too far, and really, you do. I am, fortunately for me, past the age of the "targeted demographic", but I wear a full beard, and have for about the last 10 years. I find your demeanor to be offensive merely for the sake of being offensive. I get it, "I am woman, hear me roar". Well, I've heard it, and frankly, it comes off as more "telephone tough guy" than actually trying to forward a cause. Perhaps if you argued more from a stance of "inclusion" instead of "domination" it would be easier to take you seriously, but as it stands, no. If you want to attack a specific opinion, feel free to do so, that's part of what discussion is, but if all you can do is come up with this reverse sexism rhetoric, don't bother.
...................................? ???? ??????????
I have no idea how you construed my attempt at lighthearted teasing about your use of "tradition" as a reason to exclude women as a proclamation that I want to dominate men. I have explained carefully and repeatedly throughout this thread that I do not hate men, do not want men to go away, do not want to take all the toys and games away from the men. I have even said that I would be satisfied if women got only 20% of the marketing, if we must break it down strictly by how many women we think might play Bioware games (based on the statistic that 18% of ME3 playthroughs used Femshep). I have said that I wish one of the 3 classes on the Bioware website was female. Not ALL. One. I have argued from a stance of inclusion from day one. I don't know why you have a problem with me in particular and have decided to single me out. I don't know why you decided to make this personal.
I made a silly response to your argument because I thought your argument was silly. If you think I misunderstood it, please expand on it so that I may understand. All I see is "they included men because they have always included men and that's the way the world works." And I just don't think that is a good enough reason. Why do you think it is?
Okay friends, silly question for ya but humor me
:
After seeing the Qunari Inquisitor gameplay video, have your ideas on who to befriend or romance in your fem Qunari playthrough changed at all?
I think I had originally entertained the idea of romancing Cass with my fem Qunari, but but but... Something about seeing the Inquisitor loom over Dorian and make him look so small by comparison really tugged at my heart strings!
I can't possibly explain it. It's so bizarre because never in my life have I shown interest (whether in games or real life) in shorter men. But here we are.
Friend-wise, I'm thinking my Inquisitor and Sera might get on extremely well. I LOVED seeing her. Had no interest in her before yesterday, and now BOOM.
I still have my heart set on Cass, though with the accidental announcement about Sera, I'm nervous about what the odds of her being available to a lady are. Sera is definitely growing on me after that trailer, but I think I'll need to get to know her in the game before I make up my mind about her. I mean, I am definitely thrilled that there is going to be a lesbian option and that she's a party member, so I don't want to sound too negative. But we'll see.
That said, while I've yet to be as smitten by Dorian as others are, that mental image is too adorable! I actually dig shorter men, so I can see it.
I think some people are rather uptight that some of us are happy to see MORE of the Lady Inquisitor at E3 than the males... but the reason is that we've been given so little for so long over the course of so many games that it's REALLY NICE to some of us...
I would like to see more of the male inquisitors, too, to be fair. As much as we've been given scraps over the years, I'd rather there be equality than things suddenly skew over to the female side of things. Doing that will only make certain parties feel vindicated that women want to take over "their" games/territory/whatever. I just want other women to know that there are these wonderful, mostly women-friendly games out there, and they are welcome to play them. And I also like to feel included and represented. Oh and I REALLY like playing the games. So, E3 trailers/info have been very much a win-win for me. Loving that epic qunari mage lady.
i think the E3 stuff balances out the male-only promotion we had seen leading up to E3.
I guess it's hard to imagine why we felt left out in the first place? It's easy to see it as a non-issue when you're not directly affected. At this point we're celebrating one trailer (in which the female Inquisitor is barely present) and one demo (of which I think there are now 3, if we include the dwarfquisitor that we haven't seen yet). It's hardly an overwhelming amount compared to the total number of videos for Inquisitor out there now--not even close to half--so I don't understand why anybody would be unhappy about this. We're excited because we have waited so long to see anything at all.

I hate how ubisoft used the " I have black friends" argument, just because they feature different color men doesn't make them a bastion of diversity. Unity could have had two women instead four identical twins.
Are you referring to the new statement on Kotaku/Polygon? Cause yeah, that was bad.

I think the whole thing about it that bugs me is that females are seen as a 'feature' - what the hell does that even mean?
You know, even if we got proportional representation (according to whatever suspect statistic) there would still be people complaining that it's political correctness gone mad, and that drives me bonkers, the lack of empathy (not just gaming) by our selfish society always makes me feel so damn depressed. I can't force anyone to care but I can't help but label those who don't give a stuff about anyone or anything an inward looking selfish brat.

I bloody well HATE the term "political correctness" and the way that so many obnoxious people outright misuse it.
The most common type of sentence used with that term is as follows:
"Wow, I can't believe you women are getting so upset about that rape joke. This political correctness BS is really sucking the humor out of everything!"
Just... no. The bashing of "political correctness" is not some excuse to go ahead and continue being rude, misogynistic, sexist, racist, whatever.

You know, if AC: Unity had featured a woman lead in the main story, they wouldn't have cut men from the co-op. It wouldn't have turned into four women assassin's running across French Revolution Paris just because of 'animation limitations'. Asking to only be included/added in co-op in a massive annual franchise is essentially women fighting for scraps in the gaming industry as is.
And yeah Mes, the whining about political correctness getting out of hand is just a 'politically correct' way of saying "I'm too lazy to care about perspectives other then my own, so shut up because you're asking for way too much."

Honestly, when this whole thing blew up I thought at first that people were talking about main story characters. When I realized this was all about co-op customization, I realized how silly it was. We're talking about a feature of a feature of a game that probably won't even be utilized by a good portion of people who buy it. I mean, no wonder they saw it as something minor that could be scrapped. When inclusion is pushed so far down the list of priorities that it wouldn't even be visible in the main game, why bother?
"Politically correct" is one of my least favorite phrases ever.

Well, I did like the female qunari Inquisitor. She looked tough and all around badass. Same goes for the male dwarf. Maybe it is a good thing they took their time before showing them. If anything, now I feel like the default Inquisitor from the trailers looks way too generic. I hope there are some cool customization options in the character creator for humans and some decent armor, because I don't really like the default one xD

They are highlighting co-op enough that its the cover of the game. Next gen is all about greater social integration and interaction (so Sony/Microsoft etc keep saying over and over at least). It's mind boggling that limiting inclusion in that manner would be seen as a wise move for moving the franchise onto the next batch of consoles, when, ya know, the industry and devs should be looking forwards, in terms of game play sure, but also in terms of the industry as a whole.
We saw male dwarf Inquisitor? I'm gonna haveta go find that...then rewatch femQunari Inquisitors demo ![]()

Hopefully he won't necessarily be the default they settle on. Or maybe this time they'll have a number of default faces that don't all look horrendous. But definitely, here's hoping the CC is great for everyone!

Personally, I don't really want a game with just a female as the lead any more than I will purchase a game with a male lead. Though that might be because I haven't found any I enjoy playing. Tried Tomb Raider and Dreamfall, years ago and didn't finish either of them.Same with Buffy though the game was good. Some games I just have trouble playing. My kids got me the last Laura Croft game and a friend got me Bioshock, Haven't started Croft yet and Bioshock was fun but not something I'll replay and I wouldn't have bought either of them. Yes, I know I'm strange in my preferences but that's the way it is.
I want both, I want to pick my character depending on my mood or in the case of a really good BW story, I want to see how they are different. It's one reason I like all of the BioWare games even when I get irritated with them and will probably buy every game they make eventually. They write such a good story, companion characters and both male and female leads are different. Elder Scrolls, Fall Out 3 and NV, Borderland, Dragon Dogma, and some others I keep just because there aren't that many games I want out there.
But AC won't be on my purchase list.

This has nothing to do with the lady Quizzy but god, i need to post it:
http://www.theverge....y-too-much-work
/facepalm x1000 times
I just... how??? How it can be that hard? Then the other companies who put females in games are masters at this. Either Ubi doesn't have the balls to admit they don't like women or they're useless in animation. How it's that hard to use a woman jfc.
I guess it's too much work for me to leave my house and buy their game. ![]()

Anyone think there'll be more exposure for the female & inquisitors of different races after E3? i hope so but the pessimistic side of me just see's 4 months of default male till release .
I hope so! ![]()

Im very happy with the showing of the qunari femquisitor. I really love the accent used.
I read comments about females and advertising. My cousin is a loner herself. She is a fan of WoW in some cases so I showed Dragon Age off to her, specifically female side of it. She got hooked in.
Thats an example of how well advertising to women can work great. My friends wife got hooked onto skyrim cause it allowed females. She only plays games with females as playable. She doesn't care much on playing males. Hence female advertising works.
I read one game wanted female protag's but said it would take longer time. (By all means, take longer) Another was questionable but pointed out they have female breastplate working (and it looked great not sexist).
I dont know but it seems females are starting to get some more light than they used to. Im glad for that to happen.
I stopped playing several male protag games cause too many looked close to like the same guy. Id play Witcher more willingly if it had a CC instead.

If I were to guess, I would say another trailer featuring the femquisitor and a trailer featuring malequisitor would be released shortly before Oct 7. I would say Bioware might release the names of all VA's

Nope; even 5 years ago, they could have done this, and they wouldn't even have been challenged. At least now, people are going "WT actual F, Ubisoft?" And for every white male who decides to weigh in saying he doesn't see why it's a problem (well, duh!) , there are people who do see the problem, and expect better in a AAA game.

More than half, I wonder what percentage of people are straight white males with dark hair, stubble, and chiseled features? ![]()

Glad to see a female Quizzy in action instead of just in art. (*sigh* Still nothing on the game website though from my quick look through)
I thought the Qunari Female looked good, husband is excited to play as as female Qunari (he's already stated it will be his first character).
Loved her height.
And as for female rep in game videos, I was floored with the number of females and even a female main that was shown in the random trailer from E3 I clicked on for Destiny. Wish it was going to be on PC though.....but I've talked my husband into letting me buy 'him' a PS4.....
Added: Husband says "You don't need to spend that kind of money on me.....well, really for you." Me: "Hey, it's father's day this weekend."

Call of duty's I would only rent as well just to check out their stories. Dont really care about the rest of it. Though, may consider buying it for my two cousins(both females) that love CoD and showing up their male friends. Since it seems the guys I saw didnt take them seriously till they kept loosing each and every match.
Im straight white male with stubbles (for the moment till I shave again) but not chiseled like those in the games. At least that I know of.
I prefer equal representation.

I'm thrilled we saw a female qunari, but I'm still waiting to see female dwarves! And more elves, so we can see how elves made in the toolset look compared to character models like Solas and Sera. They have a few more months to go, so I'm not sad that we didn't see everything at once, but I hope they'll keep that stuff in mind.
And it would be nice if the official DA:I website had a section about character creation and races, if only for the fact that there would be sweet, sweet screenshots of female characters and the races other than human.
