I'm thrilled that Bioware chose to use a female inquisitor for one of the demos and used the female voice for one of the trailers. I think it's good for those who do enjoy playing female characters to know the option exists.
As a side note - talking about statistics on female vs. male players, I think anymore it's much more complex than just how many female vs. male characters end up being created. Games loose their value pretty quickly. The price difference between someone who pre-orders a game at full price and then purchases most of the DLCs (i.e. a fan) vs. someone who purchases the basic game for $10-20 after the game has been out for a while is pretty significant.
I eventually played both Witcher and Witcher 2, but I waited until those games were less than $20 and I was bored. I can never get into a game where the PC is male. If I'm playing a male then it's just me reading an interactive story, but when I play as a female it's more an extension of myself in a fantasy land which I enjoy much more. (This was further amplified in the Witcher series which feels very much like a game for a male with every female you save offering sex. . .)
On the other hand, I pre-ordered DA2, ME3, and DAI and don't regret any of those pre-orders. Despite the flaws in DA2 I enjoyed it a heck of a lot more than Witcher 2 precisely because I could play as a well-defined female. And honestly? I probably would have played ME and ME2 sooner if I had realized that they had a well defined female protag with a good storyline. In fact the only reason I played ME and ME2 at first is because I got ME2 for free after pre-ordering DA2. I was actually kind of surprised when I started ME and realized I could play as a female. . . And I hope I made it up to Bioware for getting the game for free since over time I purchased all of the ME2 story DLCs.
And I'm certainly not arguing that the majority or all of the demos/trailers should be with a female because I think it's important to show both sides. I also know that not everyone is like me. All I'm saying is that if a game has a somewhat unique feature that might make it a priority purchase for a subset of the fan base, I think it's a good thing to show that option exists.
