It was a pretty good response. FYI for anyone who didn't click the link, the question was: Why are so many people demanding AAA titles to be all feminist and stuff when women don't even buy those games?

LOL. I applaud David for even giving... that... his time.

"Feminist and stuff."

"Women don't even BUY those games."

Gosh. *looks at my console library next to the tv of all AAA games* I guess this means I'm not a woman.

That reminds me of something that happened last year in the anime community.

A major anime studio that normally makes "gender neutral" shows created an anime that targeted women. There was a very nasty backlash about it on parts of the internet.

There was a similar argument being made, that "women don't buy anime". (I guess my anime and figurine collection is just a demented hallucination then...)

Oddly enough it ended up becoming one of the most popular animes of last year, it's getting a second season this summer and they're releasing figurines for it now too. So that kind of throws that argument out the window.

Additionally, when Aaron Flynn tweeted it, he had this to say:

BECAUSE IT MATTERS

Don't mind me, I just have a little something in my eye over here...

I really love that we finally got this female voiced inquisitor trailer at E3 and I'm really please the devs released it on twitter as well in HD that's fantastic! I was also thrilled we got gameplay demos with female qunari inquisitor during E3 so I think progress in showing female inquisitors is being made and that's great! But then I went back to the main dragon age site and noticed that the new trailer with male inquisitor from E3 has been added to the videos section of the site and fem inquisitor's shorter trailer has not. It's great the vid was tweeted but a lot of people aren't on twitter and so if they go looking for info on the main site there's still no fem inquisitor and that makes me sad.  :(

Redbook's post on the way different bioware main sites have informed customers what they could play was very interesting (great post by the way and I wish I could like it more than once) and shows that in ME3 including the female player character can be done clearly and concisely right alongside the male PC and I hope we see some similar representation happen for female inquisitors and the different races on the main site as well soon.

It seems to me that especially for AAA games with the choice of a female protag if they were more inclined to proudly show off the feature and have their female PC clearly shown alongside her male counterpart more often then questions like this might become rarer as people like this poster would actually get used to seeing that women are included because women are here too and we like gaming as well.

I haven't been to one myself. But I know I would end up in wrong frame of mind if I did. :) I'd rather not creep anyone out at a convention.

Related to that, im being called a furry just cause a couple friends are and I hung out at a new years eve party of theirs. Oh well, it was fun with games, and food regardless. :)

I think there have probably been more girls than guys at every anime con I've been to ^_^ You should try going to one if the opportunity comes up. It's really fun and people are really laid back. Anime con-goers are like neo-hippies lol. A good portion of the people who go are socially awkward/shy/get over excited and loud so it's not unusual

...................................?  ????  ??????????

I have no idea how you construed my attempt at lighthearted teasing about your use of "tradition" as a reason to exclude women as a proclamation that I want to dominate men.  I have explained carefully and repeatedly throughout this thread that I do not hate men, do not want men to go away, do not want to take all the toys and games away from the men.  I have even said that I would be satisfied if women got only 20% of the marketing, if we must break it down strictly by how many women we think might play Bioware games (based on the statistic that 18% of ME3 playthroughs used Femshep).  I have said that I wish one of the 3 classes on the Bioware website was female.  Not ALL.  One.  I have argued from a stance of inclusion from day one.  I don't know why you have a problem with me in particular and have decided to single me out.  I don't know why you decided to make this personal.

I made a silly response to your argument because I thought your argument was silly.  If you think I misunderstood it, please expand on it so that I may understand.  All I see is "they included men because they have always included men and that's the way the world works."  And I just don't think that is a good enough reason.  Why do you think it is?

Replying to these threads in any context seems to be hazardous to my ability to post here, I guess I'm not licking enough boots? However, since you did reply, I'll have to point out that you weren't replying to me. You were so busy lashing out that you didn't even notice whom you were lashing out at?

They do that more so out of tradition at this point. I'm fairly certain the lot of them aren't like.

"**** WOMEN WE ONLY CATER FOR MEN"

Ah yes, the ancient holy tradition of white stubbled men climbing up walls. We must not desecrate this sacred ritual.

*snip*

Wow, thanks for doing this!  It is interesting to see how things have changed.

But it also kind of makes the Inquisition website even more upsetting.  They've actually updated it with one video but not the other?  Why aren't they at least revising the wording to make sure the female option is mentioned?

I'm curious to know which anime that was?  I haven't kept up with modern anime, but I'm now seeing the same thing happen with the new Sailor Moon anime.  The creators mentioned how it's meant for girls, and suddenly a whole bunch of men got mad.  Like they can't make just one show specifically for girls?  Like guys can't like something made for girls?

I'm sorry that in my confusion (and honestly, shock, and a bit of hurt) about your list of accusations against me, I did not realize that my original comment had not even been in response to yours.  You said that I was lashing out, but your post seemed awfully vitriolic, and I still remain baffled as to why.  You seem to have some kind of problem with me personally, and I have no idea what I have done to warrant that.

I think I speak for many people who frequent this thread when I say you've been nothing but a fun, well spoken, and welcome part of this conversation. Don't let any of the people who randomly pop in to tell us to shut up tell you differently *

I agree with you about Lady Nuggins.

Wonder why femquisitor isn't on the website myself. The keep would be good to have but wont be too much longer. The last minute when waiting feels longer then the months of waiting. I hate that! :P

I'm still torn between male and female Inquisitor for my first playrough. But the VA of Femquisitor sounds pretty good.

Coin flip.  You'll either be happy with the result, or not.  If not, pick the other one.  Paradox of Choice solved!

There was a mention of sending cupcakes or cookies or such. How many are working in production of DA:I? I would be inclined to order some from near your companies location to send out. Yep, one cookie will do it? :P

Oddly enough, this is exactly how I have picked protagonists in BioWare games since Baldur's Gate, barring where I had a specific idea in mind anyway. This runs all the way out to swtor too.

It wasn't aimed specifically at you, but the sexist stereotype that you used to "refute" the post that I listed in my last reply. Sadly, in another thread, pointing out that a position came across as shallow and asking if people that preferred one of the characters listed meant they had bad taste brought me a board warning and the deletion of the post, even though there are far more "vitriolic" posts still in it. As to why; it's plainly laid out in the post that was edited. I am 100% down with arguing for inclusion, I'd like to see more of the female inquisitor too, including other races, and I believe I pointed out somewhere that doing so for the first time with the Qunari was a masterstroke. However, I don't see the need to throw out sexist stereotypes as a "rebuttal" to a post I don't agree with.

The funny thing is that Sailor Moon has ALWAYS been for girls, it's a Mahou Shoujo/Magical Girl series. It was created by a woman as well. Not that boys can't enjoy it as well of course but it's demographic is Shoujo, literally "young girl".

The anime in question is called Free! Iwatobi Swim Club. It's a harmless little romp about a men's swim team. There are plenty of anime geared towards women, the main reason these men got mad was because the studio making it was KyoAni, Kyoto Animation, which is by all means a triple A studio.

If you're morbidly curious here's a link to a tumblr that cataloged some of the more charming reactions.

http://mantearsflowingfree.tumblr.com/

EDIT: charming was meant in sarcasm. There's nothing charming about these reactions at all.

Oh wow.

That's simply wonderful *sniff*

David Gaiders response was pretty cool to that particularly ridiculous question too.

A friend got me a copy of the enhanced edition of Baldurs gate, I have yet to start it as yet though.

Ah, Free! I started watching it just because it made me happy to think of the 'HOW DARE GIRLS LIKE THINGS?!' crowd hating it, and then it actually turned out to be charming and fun. Apparently all I needed to get over my aversion to sports anime was a bunch of hot bishonen taking their shirts off all the time and staring meaningfully into each other's eyes. (Well, plus an entertaining story with proper character development. But the absence of shirts helped.)

I'm exasperated that in 2014 there are still so many people who think women don't buy games - or don't buy the 'right' kind of games - and I'm glad that BioWare has no truck with this nonsense.

(I mean ... 'women don't buy Assassin's Creed? Really? Half the female gamers I know are obsessed with Ezio and jumping off buildings!)

Is AWR only voicing the Elven Inquisitor? Or will she voice as human as well? I only ask because I saw a tweet of hers the other day saying she is voicing the Elven Inquisitor.
