I know what you were saying my thing was more on the whole point that I admittedly thought you were saying only women cared about this sort of thing.

Gotcha.  I hadn't thought of my post being misconstrued that way, and I don't always think through everything I type.  I try to, because goodness knows all sorts of things can be taken out of context, but I am only human...  And I'm also not always right.

Oasis_JS:  This is a valid conversation we're having, and the portrayal of women in the media in general is relevant to the topic of the portrayal of and representation of the female Inquisitor.  I don't think anyone's too heated, at present, but given some of the recent history of this thread I think it is understandable if some of us are on the defensive (myself included, but as I said, my apologies if I seem harsh, since it's due to the recent history of the thread and I want to be sure that it doesn't go that direction again).

Thank you for the correction, ahem yes let me rephrase that - they dooooon't caaaaaaaaare.

I feel for you - that conversation would exhaust my patience very quickly.

They often do wear on my patience quickly doesn't help that mid conversation they'll do something like 'daww you need to calm down *pats* have you tried tombradier? Or is that too much for little cat cat?' I'm surprised I haven't blocked them yet  ^_^

Yeah, its very strange...I know no one who participated in the cupcakequisition did it for publicity sake, but I haveta admit I totally expected that info to get picked up. At the very least it was a cute holiday fluff piece! But I regularly check a LOT of game websites and didn't see anything...but if you google 'bioware fans send cupcakes' there are about a zillion posts and news articles about the Mass Effect 3 ending angry cupcakes. Last I checked, absolutely nothing about last week.

I was half tempted to submit like, tips to Polygon, IGN, Gameinformer, heck The Mary Sue and  any other sites saying 'dear god just check the Bioware devs twitter feeds already!!!' I didn't b/c some of the tweets show participants names and that made me uncomfortable. But I definitely feel as if people should see/know that not ONLY was a fantastic and massive dev actually being inclusive while Ubisoft was off being ...Ubisoft :rolleyes: but men and women were grateful enough to come together b/c of that and do something. It shows that it is a big deal, and it should  at least be half the news story Biowares last fan given cupcakes were.

I know I didn't expect media attention, but when we managed to get SO MANY cupcakes together, I kind of thought we might end up on a news site somewhere.  I was surprised we didn't.

BioWare deserves more recognition for being inclusive, but it seems like they only just get bashed a lot--at times even for the sole reason that they belong to EA--which is a conversation I won't get into in this thread, though I will point out it seems like EA-owned companies in general are trying to listen more to their fan base over the last year or so.

I mean, what we did was a fairly direct response to the biggest controversy coming out of E3...and it was fans coming together to do something positive, to vote with their wallet to support devs who were being inclusive instead of 'targeting' ( :rolleyes: ) the devs who weren't. In every way that seems like something that at least a few gaming news sites would find worth mentioning haha.

But like I said, that isn't why I did it either, and I don't think its why anyone did it. We did it b/c devs like Allan have been listening to us and engaging with us for months and seeing the Female Inquisitor revealed on the biggest stage in gaming is a big friggin' deal. It was awesome, and it made our day as fans, and in return being able to brighten the devs day was a lovely opportunity. I'm extremely proud/humbled/honored to have been a part of that. I certainly don't want to belittle that in any way whatsoever. :unsure:

My gaming group around the table actually have nicknames given cause who we play. It gets a little ackward to me when I get called lesbian catgirl in public. But I do call them by their nicknames too, but their names are fairly reasonable being (((edited))) males with male charaters. That game we don't close for at least 8 to 12 hour play, so it can get a little weird.. whilst trying to stay in characters.

Huldradancer was that in a game chat?  I get the feeling that they may tease to act tough but wouldn't want you to actually leave, just a guess though as I don't know them like you do.

Nefla, LOVE that picture, very good at it. Mystique is in scales so she is actually fine like that, I don't see too much of a problem due to her personality. She does those things on purpose I think. I could be way off, but I have followed her story some in comics. She would sexualize herself to disarm men on purpose, assassins can kill a target far easier when disarmed the way she does it.

It's even more of a big deal when no other AAA game had female characters featured (except, as I understand, in a compromising role in Witcher 3), and one excluded women from multiplayer.  I really hope that other women gamers take note, and are drawn to BioWare.  BioWare tends to be pretty woman-friendly in terms of the games they put out there.  Yeah, they're not perfect, but who is?

Nope it was a friend of a friend over skype. The person is usually fine to talk to until you don't use prefect English or disagree with them in anyway or mention anything about written role plays :/. So nope this was someone who was friends with a buddy of my online and they recommend we talk, needless to say they talk to me different than they do my other friend ^^;

Bioware deserve a heck of a lot more positive recognition for E3.

Ubisoft got a lot of bad publicity yeah, but it was publicity all the same. It still made people who maybe hadn't heard of them google them, see what kind of games they had on offer, etc.

I wish Bioware had that amount of attention but in a positive way.

I was happy being part of it, sad it didn't get much footage. I wouldn't care if my name got passed around a little, it didn't matter to me. I wanted them to know they are wonderful for listening to fans. That they do great work, and what they do is noticed, even the one(s) that feel they don't do much in the scope of things when every little thing matters. I did want some news showing to counteract their negativities I keep seeing and reading about, something positive for something they did outstanding for, showing the femquisitor off would been good to hear.  A group of people sent messages and cupcakes to Bioware for listening to their fans, and for showing off a female inquisitor, making many fans happy. Not all are negative to Bioware's games. That is what I would of wanted to hear.

I think that is a very good way of putting it :). It seems like the internet as a whole, gaming journalist (largely) included, don't want to let Mass Effect 3 go...or even Dragon Age 2...even though a lot of sites gave that game a pretty darn high score on its release. Its vaguely exhausting as a fan, which really makes me feel bad for the devs who are so clearly working so passionately on this AMAZING looking new game.

Huldradancer, ah ok. Sorry. I am not sure what to write in response with that, :) Sounds positive they talk to you differently, less meant bad.

Tangentially related, but I enjoyed this brief description of cultures and gender roles from the setting of Obsidian's Pillar's of Eternity.  Josh Sawyer is the lead designer for it (a very kind man who took some time out of his day to hang with me for an hour or so when I was on a holiday in LA).  He has a tumblr that he uses to answer questions.

Just kind of taking it as it comes since they do once in a while offer good conversation and they're easy to ignore kind of^^; When I mean that person talks to me differently though I meant the friend the recommend speaking to them doesn't put up with this near as much as I do. Which is fine, I got practice dealing with behavior like that from many relatives  ;)

Anyways sorry for the little derail I took going down moaning and groaning whining lane there.

I think it's also our bias to focus on the negative.  That stuff sticks out more, but I see enthusiasm and whatnot out and about beyond our forums too.  We *were* well received at E3 (much more so than we expected).

I'm really glad to hear that then! :) I suppose the true press coverage will be ramping up in the coming weeks/month and we will start to see journalist truly geeking out over the game. (I am very much looking forward to those articles)

According to Liz, there were some journalists that missed their next stop because they lost track of time.  Which is a good problem to have I think (for us anyways... haha)

I think part of my brain is putting me through some kind of sick experiment to see how much I can take before I snap ^^;

Or might not be good at that type of game and prefer other games it's such a shock!

ME TOO. I can't wait for people outside of our little BSN cave here to geek out about Inquisition.

Add me to the "I'm not that patient" group.  That person would be blocked from my list, in large part because I try to warn people when they're pushing me too far.  "I don't want to keep talking about this.  You're getting me angry.  Can we drop it?"  Etc.  If this happens more than once or twice within a short period, well, that person does not need to be on my friend list.

HuldraDancer, I punish myself similarly. See how much I can handle before I burst. Which everyone I know can't understand how I can handle all I have so far. :D

Guess that is why I haven't snapped at my friends to tell them to stop calling me a catgirl after, now 6 months.  :)

I'd be excited to hear more news, positive ones. It seems to be possible considering the journalists loosing track of time.

I wouldn't last as long as six months it only took a half a month before I snapped on them for calling me kitty or cat all the time (I hate that nickname) Though I bet if I stopped talking to them my constant headaches may cut down  :lol:

Since I don't tend to keep track of the news I can't speak for much (get all my info here) but I hope Bioware does get some good publicity cause they kind of deserve it :3

I've gotten them to drop ONE thing ever before but I had to apologize to them first for them acting like a jerk but they really made me feel upset so I just kind of did so just to get the conversation to stop. (I'm not that strong when I'm on the verge of tears or crying) ^^; Plus my other friend seems to like them so I don't want to be rude (that and I have no idea how to block someone over skype^^; )
