Makes me a little sad that I couldn't pitch in, but I was going through a serious money crunch when you guys were gathering the cash.  I was rooting for you though and if you guys ever feel like sending them more cupcakes, I'll be able to help with the cost this time.   :D

I think we will definitely be doing it again.

And plus it was meant to be representative of ALL of us who were thankful for the Lady Inquisitor, even people who didn't directly get involved.  ^_^

I still wished I could have helped.  Wasn't that 10-12 dozen cupcakes you sent up there?

I'm not sure we're even in the same book, let alone the same page. When I said "controversy sells better than praise" I was talking about news sites, as in that is the reason good things are more rare to see reported than bad things. You implied this was because the core demographic doesn't like Bioware anymore, which is not even the reason???  You talked about demographic pandering, I talked about demographic pandering.

You said this was on the same page as game sales, and I didn't even go there.

Controversy sells better then praise, I understood that point. That's what click bait is called. Negative topics or discussion focused around getting attention to a product. Its been speculated that Ubisofts handling of Far Cry 4, and otherwise was was a media market event similar to viral marketing campaigns. The reason I responded that that Bioware wants the CoD crowd is because the CoD crowd is a "core demographic" of players that focus towards a very set and specific form and style of game. They are also a crowd that takes gameplay of their products very seriously (see: BF4).

Which goes back to my statement of Bioware alienating one of the core demographics in the western market.

I implied that DA2, which has very negative reviews, was an indicator to how DA:I is perceived. The demographic pandering is moving away from gameplay orientation towards more cinematic and closed world experiences.

Actually, we are talking about sending again. This time splitting, so that messages is more open for anyone to write something. We are also discussing timeframe, and may have picked a date.  The monetary part wont be open threaded as the message thread will be. :)

If I wanted to be selfish, I wouldn't of sent money either, I would of kept the cupcakes to myself. I really don't want to be known by everybody, fame has drawbacks. I been in positions to know and see that.

Keep me posted then.  BioWare has been amazing to me as a customer, a member of the LGBT community and as a woman.  I'd love to send a little bit of that appreciation back north.  :D

That's great that some good publicity is being recognized instead of focusing on just the bad stuff (and now I'm VERY glad I was unable to write a letter though) but the comments sting just a little but then again I worry about how other people take things when I shouldn't. Still nice to see there is some good things being recognized and not just the bad things at least :)

It'll be really interesting to see what happens between now and Oct in terms of promotional material for Inquisition. I'm thinking it'd be nice to organize another cupcakequisition after another female trailer, or even after we've had a chance to play the game and see how female characters are portrayed.

Biowares own statement of wanting the CoD demographic dictates otherwise. But I'm sure those DA2 sales won't have any related impact to DA:I.

The CoD crowd (aside: there are women that play the game) was more an examination that due to the RPG aspects of those types of games (the feedback loop of gaining XP and acquiring skills, improved weapons, and whatnot), there's possibly more overlap there than otherwise.

As a gamer, my tastes are pretty diverse too.  I like playing pretty much any genre of gaming, but when a game adds "RPG elements" I typically consider it a positive.

One of my favourite games is Deus Ex (the original, and Human Revolution) which is an interesting exploration combining traditional RPG and FPS elements.  System Shock 2 is also one of my favourite games.

Dude's just mad that nobody ever sent him cupcakes for doing a good job.

CoD gamers? More female than males play it in my extended family. They don't care about the story on it, they just like blowing things and people up. :D

They prefer Gears cause women are in practical armor, its favored due to Anya, so the 3rd got a lot of hype in my family members.

I showed off the female playability of DA and got them hooked as well. They had no idea females could be played in DA series. ME3 they got to check out due to vague appearances of femshep.

Overlap yes. I'm sure you're more than familiar with the criticisms of ME3 when it comes to the actual gameplay.

This really isn't relevant to the discussion.  Unless you have something to add to the actual topic at hand, I suggest you take your complaints about DA2 and ME3 elsewhere.

Back on topic, I really appreciated Allan's response to that comment.  It summed up why the gesture mattered without being nearly as verbose as I would have been.

I am.  Not sure how this is relevant, however.

I play FPS games because I find them fun - though often I don't find the gameplay to actually be all that complex.  But that's okay a game doesn't have to be super complex to be fun... sometimes it's just about shooting that helicopter with your tank's main gun while your friend in the secondary gunner spot takes out the guy trying to C4 your tank.  I play RPGs because I find them fun too.  It's why I play any game.

Is everyone in the "CoD crowd" going to want to play our game?  Probably not.  But I'd be surprised if some wouldn't enjoy it.  I had a coworker that picked up KOTOR because he had just finished Jedi Knight II and wanted more of the same.  He ended up getting something he liked even better.  Sometimes stuff like that happens.

Thank you for the attempted discourse, Allen. But as its been said, I am apparently derailing the thread. So I will take your oh so often advice and stop posting in it.

You may all resume your discussion of full plate armor texture use.

"COD crowd" is still diverse, though. Stereotypes are silly, and that goes across all fronts. My husband plays COD, and he also is a big fan of Mass Effect (turned onto it by me first bringing it into the house, because I am an RPG lover). He tried DA and just wasn't into the fantasy realm, though, because different strokes. At the same time, I stepped out of my RPG comfort zone and grabbed Titanfall on 360. Ended up really liking it (and also appreciated I could choose a male or female pilot  <3 ).

Fun fact: Michelle over at Flirt Cupcakes - the company we ordered the cupcakes from - is apparently a huge COD fan and was thrilled they added a female soldier to MP in Ghosts. She and I have actually had quite a large time chatting it up about gaming in general via email ever since this Cupcakequisition went down. I had no idea. I really didn't. Ended up being the best and most fitting company we could have done business with. They will be my permanent BioWare goodie station now, for whatever future individual and group endeavors I engage in.  <3

And it was completely done without intention for media/public attention. We all organized and were concerned first and foremost about sending a positive message to BioWare. It was only the week AFTER the delivery that we looked at each other in the group and said, "Damn, kinda wish BioWare had gotten some good press from that!" It was only the Monday after when we all said that that I even started contacting gaming media groups. And I work at a newspaper FOR A LIVING, so that should tell you my focus was genuinely on the personal message and not on a public spectacle. That it didn't even occur to ME until afterwards that, "Hmmm, maybe we should try and get press from this."

Natashina - I will reinvite you to the group. We're keeping it up since we're planning another again at some point in the future. But you (and anyone else) are welcome regardless of ability to financially contribute. I deeply regret not offering everyone an ability to submit messages this first time. I won't make that mistake again. The benefactors who can contribute money will worry about the costs and the food, but EVERYONE who loves BioWare and appreciates what they've done and continue to do will ALWAYS be welcome to add their personal message to our future endeavors. It's about THE MESSAGE, THE LOVE, AND THE POSITIVITY. Always. First and foremost.

Anyone interested, PM me anytime. My door is always open to talk or to pull you into the group invite list. :)

Awesome! It's great that that's out there in the public eye. Don't get too bothered about the comments — the Internet is the hideout of vicious trolls. Ignore the negative and focus on the positive.

On a lighter note... There's no such thing as a safe space anymore

After reading the link, I may have been momentarily distracted by the "Athletes Hot Bikini Bodies" thingie, when my dear old mother asked me whether I wanted "breast or thigh".

It took me a moment to realize she was talking about the chicken.

Whoop, looks like there were forum comments as well.  They get much more rage-inducing... but then a few people stepped in and told everybody to read the damn article and explained it very well.  There will always be jerks and idiots in article comments, but if a few people got the message well enough to explain it, that means the majority probably get it.

Though I have to laugh at the person who thought that Bioware sent themselves cupcakes.  Yeah, I bet the devs make a press release every time they buy themselves lunch.  "A fan bought me this sandwich to tell me how great I am!  No, really!"

Fun fact about Mr. Rogers.

Did you know the reason he had to wear those sweaters was to hide the tattoos he got when he served as a Navy SEAL?

I also love this story:

One time, Mr. Rogers' car was stolen. He put out requests to help find it, and a couple days later it was back in his driveway with a note saying "We're sorry. We would never have stolen this if we knew who it belonged to."

You got me.  I'm actually a duplicate account of Allan's.  I made this entire thread just to get attention, and then I decided I'd send cupcakes to myself.  Nevermind the fact that I'm female and Allan is not... or that we are in two different nations. We are totally the same person.

Really glad to see this got some attention after-all. Amazing how much negativity/paranoia some on the internet have/the lense they view things through. Mainly though, im still just glad the devs enjoyed the cupcakes! :)
