just sayng...the main site still don't even mention the chance to have a protagonist of diferent races and gender than human male.

I think this nullifies all the demos with non human male characters, since those, for better or worse, are for the more "hardcore" fans than for the masses.

The 40 minute demo as a Qunari female, at E3, the biggest video game press event of the year, is more for hardcore fans than for the masses?

Okay.

Yeah, the official site continues to be a blight on the otherwise great marketing this game has had.  If you're a new fan who doesn't follow gaming news or events like E3 (I sure never used to pay attention to that stuff) but you hear about this Dragon Age thing and go to Google it, probably one of the first things to pop up will be the official website.  Unless that person then chooses to watch a couple specific videos, they would have no indication that they could play as anything other than a human male.

Okay.

I have discovered the E3 only last year. the E3 2014 is just my second E3. and I've started playng videogames with a sega megadrive, and I buyed the PS1 only one year after it was released in the shops. buyed a PS2, and than a PS3, and I'm approaching at buy a PS4. and I had two pc.

but I never followed, nor knew E3 existed.

If you aren't one who follow events or news, and you are new to the game, the first place you look is the official main site. and actually, said site miss some very important news, that someone who isn't a more informed player can't think exist.

I wouldn't mind now seeing a close up of some dashing male protag...  ^_^ Because at this point whenever I think of "male Inquisitor," I think of that generic and dim-witted one with the helmet.

We still need a trailer with a lady Inquisitor.

Dont insult the male human cause i could be disrespecful to the female and call her names. Show some respect. Very sad you are calling him that.

Who is this we've you speak of? Because I'm not part of that we"ve since I like to see more the female Inquisitor.

If you want to see more of the male Inquisitor, create a thread about that. This a thread for femquisitor.

That, and if you are following the E3 news and relying on said journalists, you're going to miss out on most of what was actually shown at E3.  Most of the games I was actually interested in at E3 got very little coverage by the big news sites, compared to things like the AC fiasco (including DAI), and I had to go digging a bit to find out more on my own.  Hence, again, why official websites actually serve a vital purpose.  I won't normally sit down and watch a demo for a game unless I'm already hooked.

I'm not Mes, but I thought she was just commenting on the fact that we haven't gotten to see him without the helmet.  He is pretty generic when you can't tell anything about him other than that he's human and male.

I made that post cause she said he is dim-witted. Very childish saying that about him.

Hardly, the first thing that pops up when you go to the main site is part 2 of the E3 demo featuring a Female Qunari.  I'd say that invalidates everything.

You have to admit it would be nice to see a bit more of a range of them though, male and female, dim witted and otherwise. Preferably not in a daft helmet. Who do I have to bribe to get a character creator demo?

I doubt someone who is making a quick researc is going to see the video. I for example didn't even see the video when entering the site. why? because the first thing I'm going to do in a website is reading the thing that I think are interesting in the menu. if those things are interesting for me, than I'll look at the videos.

Surely is not such a terribly hard thing to do putting a little reference about gender and races in the section who should inform about the personalization of the charater, isn't it?

And is something I have a lot at heart because I almost didn't played ME because it was very bad advertised that there was a chance to have a female character. :(

I took it for a very young male... There seemed to be a bulge where ladies don't have them, usually... Anyway, I thought s/he looked pretty awesome.

Wait wait wait a moment. The main site STILL doesn't have a mention of being able to chose your race and gender???? Why? Surely editing the text can not be that hard can it? It's just a few simple words on the main page about some information that is make or break for a lot of people so why not put it up? Could someone with experience making web pages either correct or confirm if adding that bit of NEEDED text is hard or not please? I'd love to know why the main site isn't putting up something so crucial about the game.

Are you trying to speak for anyone who just happens to visit the site?  Because I highly doubt just because you didn't click on the video it means thousands of others will just happen to miss it completely as well.  In my experience, the first thing people want to see when researching a new game is how the game looks.  If the first thing that is marketed towards me is a video of the game, then I will watch it.  But then again, that would just be my assumption and not actual fact.

No it isn't, I will agree there should be a quip about race/gender selection in the "become the inquisitor" tab.  But IMO that's the only valid point you have.  I have no sympathy for people who fail to make an informed decision on a video game.  There are so many avenues for people to figure it out.  What's the point of using the internet if all you're going to do is lightly skim all the information offered to you.

Yeah, I saw the larger version on the DAI fb page, but I am still leaning more towards male.  Although the face does look very youthful or feminine to me, there is something about the ratio of shoulders to waist that makes me think "male" and there is still that hint of a bulge. When the combat video comes out, my confusion will be resolved, I'm sure.  ;)

Because I am a lazy git and do not want to have to do more than hop over to the game site and click a couple of very obvious buttons to see what the character creation options are. Half the time it's easier to find out through Wikipedia than a game's own website. This one gets a pass due to not being out for several months, the ones that are still like that when the game was released 6 months ago annoy me.

Well it depends. Usually, it's just the validation/approval process that can take a lot of time (sometimes a single change has to be approved by a lot of people). But adding one or two lines doesn't takes long in itself, unless there is a specific design issue that recquires futher modifications.

And if the website is made by an external web agency, the process can also take longer.

Well that's my take on it

It's the same face as the Female Qunari shown in the demo. So I think it is female. Maybe that's the default face for Female Qunari.

I kinda doubt "young male" is even an option or something we'll really see. This isn't a shounen manga.

Good marketing shouldn't require the average person to spend a lot of time digging up basic information about the game.  Good marketing should allow you to lightly skim the information.  If I'm interested in a game, I will do the research, but it's the marketing's job to get me interested and give me the basic information first.  Being able to choose your gender and race is basic, important information for this game.

You may be in the habit of watching videos for games, but I usually don't.  I'm more of a reader.  I would rather look up the game's description first.  A gameplay demo is probably the last thing I will choose to watch, after I've already decided I'm interested enough.

Yeah, the face is pretty much identical.

Well, the Inquisitor is in an indeterminate range of 20 to 40 years old. 20 is a young man.
