Well, the Inquisitor is in an indeterminate range of 20 to 40 years old. 20 is a young man.

Not adolescent, which is what that body type would probably signify if it was a male qunari.

Yeah, I saw the larger version on the DAI fb page, but I am still leaning more towards male.  Although the face does look very youthful or feminine to me, there is something about the ratio of shoulders to waist that makes me think "male" and there is still that hint of a bulge. When the combat video comes out, my confusion will be resolved, I'm sure.   ;)

I think that's just the seam in her pants.

But this conversation made me spend a lot more time staring at a qunari's crotch than I would otherwise have done, so thanks. :P

They Really like showing off Warriors.

Well it depends. Usually, it's just the validation/approval process that can take a lot of time (sometimes a single change has to be approved by a lot of people). But adding one or two lines doesn't takes long in itself, unless there is a specific design issue that recquires futher modifications.

And if the website is made by an external web agency, the process can also take longer.

Well that's my take on it

Well sounds like its a maybe then. Thank you for your answer though.

Hopefully if its just an approval thing it will get approved and added already I can not count the times I've had to reassure someone that you can in fact play as a lady. (Thank the Ancestors for the Female Qunari Demo or they would have never believed me)

Good marketing shouldn't require the average person to spend a lot of time digging up basic information about the game.  Good marketing should allow you to lightly skim the information.  If I'm interested in a game, I will do the research, but it's the marketing's job to get me interested and give me the basic information first.  Being able to choose your gender and race is basic, important information for this game.

Again I was agreeing that the website does need to let ppl know there are race/gender options available.  However, to some that's not an important feature.  So I applaud them for attempting to cover as much ground as possible.  There's a lot of information that needs to be told on a website for a game like DA:I.  Not everyone is going to want to know the same thing when they visit the site.

I don't see any 'bulge'.

And it's the exact same qunari we saw at the E3 demo trailers.

LOL, yeah... I don't usually stare at crotches, but that one is sort of in your face like Jareth the Goblin King's...

It will be interesting to see the male Qunari body frame, since we know that Iron Bull has a much larger body model than the PC Qunari male. While I am really enjoying seeing so many female Inquisitors, it would be nice also to see a few non-human male ones, too. So maybe my brain was trying to turn that image into a male in order to fulfill my wishes.   ;)

Trying to contact them now. A simple one word change would do it.

Quote from site if I could but it wont let me paste for some reason. But, just adding gender before appearance on customization of character screen would fix the problem. Under game info play your way.

The male qunari would most likely be like the IB. Unless the IB is more muscley than every other qunari. :P

Edit: oh it's been said that the IB is more muscley than any other qunari? Interesting.

Yeah, we have been told that the companions and advisors all have unique meshes, and that the PC male Qunari is shorter than IB. I don't think they said anything about bulkiness, but I imagine the PC male Qunari will be smaller in proportion to his height, at least. Sten was not that much bigger than the human males in DAO, but the Qunari in DA2 were pretty big, and IB is enormous, so it'll be interesting to see what other male Qunari look like in DAI.

This is getting way off topic, though, so I'm going to stop now.

Well I'm no web designer, just the pov of an account manager who sometimes ship sites for clients. And there is the multi-language thing also :/ But regardless, if they didn't plan it I doubt they will add it.

I might be wrong, but I think the easiest way to show that you can customize your protagonist to a large audience is releasing screenshots for the biggest game websites. I based that on my own behaviour: Want news for a game that holds my interest? ->Type the game on Google news -> Click on most recent results -> Look at the gallery. But that might not be the case for everyone.

Well I also thought it was a male with the smaller picture. But I think everybody will agree that it's nice we have a Female Qunari that doesn't fall in the Bizarre Sexual Dimorphism trope.

I don't think we've seen too little of the male characters, but honestly I would not mind to see more, like just without Helmets that would be great.

also Male Qunari.

A male version of that E3 gameplay video would be sweet.

True, not everybody cares about gender options, because people who only play as male will almost always get that option without question.  But this entire thread is full of people who have been talking about exactly why this is important information to them, so clearly there are many people for whom this matters.

This is not the first time somebody in this thread said something along the lines of "I have no sympathy for people who won't go out and research the game themselves," and usually they said it to tell us we don't need any female representation at all in the marketing.  So, sorry that I took your comment to be equally dismissive.

Right, I forget about the multiple languages thing.  That might explain why they update photos and videos, but nothing that's already been written seems to have been altered since the site was launched.  It's just disappointing that they didn't think to include one little line about that somewhere in the first place.

I think it's fantastic that they gave us a character build ambiguous enough that people genuinely weren't certain of the gender.  Though we still haven't seen the male qunari Inquisitor build, and I'll be disappointed if he winds up only slightly smaller and less bulky than Iron Bull.

My quip about not having sympathy was more aimed towards people being lazy and not actually looking into the game they're interested in.  It has nothing specifically to do with female marketing or lack there of; despite being in the thread.  My overall point was that the female Qunari they've been showing off a lot recently is a good indicator that they're trying to be more open (gender-wise) with their marketing.

I wasn't initially all that interested in Sunset Drive. For several months I saw the game, it was a male lead only, figuring it was just another Saints Row 1 or similar fashion of GTA series male lead. Then saw a new update video listed for Sunset, clicked it cause was like, hmmmm, ok whatever may as well. Then I learned females, customization of characters, clothes and styles of wear is all changeable. Now I am following it a little more, and plan on getting it. Before this, I was considering maybe gave it a chance, but don't care. Now I do.

This is prime example of failing gender information to me.  There was couple other games in same fact, one that required long progress of finding its options as it never shared it was male/female optional.

Just to let you folks know they have now added that you can pick your gender and choose between one of four races to play... it's at the top of the classes page though which is why you may have missed it. I only found it recently when I went to that page to see if any new info was showing up there when there was no new news... just the day before the update ironically.

It's not big mind you and I'd like to see more pics of fem inquisitor on the site alongside males, say one at least for one of the classes and one on the main game info page as that's where I check first usually. I also usually read first because even though I now have a computer that's running well with really good graphics and a fairly reliable internet connection (still a lot of bad/slow internet in Aus) that's new and I'm still not used to videos being easily played without hours of buffering so videos were always the last thing I checked if interested enough. Clearly the fact that this info isn't obvious or easy to find despite people actively looking for it indicates that there's more still to do in explaining this is a game where you pick gender, race and have further customisation options.

I think the demos are great by the way and love the elfquisitor a few pages back too... she's got me thinking again about whether I play qunari or elf first and I was nearly ready to call it in favour of the qunari... decisions, decisions!  :D

Just to say I agree they are being more open with their marketing though I would point out that with many other games I've been interested in I have spent literally an hour trying to find out if gender choice is included in customisation because other games don't show female playable characters in their trailers, or mention them on their sites and many articles you're directed to written by game reviewers don't tell you either. Often wikipedia does mention it these days but didn't always and I still like a confirmation source in addition anyway. If you like playing female characters it's not laziness on our end most often that leads to games being missed it's that those games aren't advertised as much or the female is skipped in marketing altogether when you have the choice making it much harder than it should be to find out that information and even previous bioware games (I'm looking at you Mass Effect 1 and 2) made it very hard to find out there was a femshep option. This is where a lot of our frustration comes from and why we're so keen (and pleased) to see some marketing finally being directed toward female inquisitors in this game.

I'd like to see more marketing for all the options gender, races and classes and I'm really looking forward to seeing something of the Character Creator, hopefully soon.  ;)

DA, like most of Western RPGs dials the musculature of its men up to 12. If the character looks anything like a normally proportioned human being, odds are good they're actually a woman.

Yikes, then I am a woman cause I am not muscle bound? :P   Normal proportion doesn't require equaling females, I seen several that fit normal proportion. Desmond, forgot Infamous 2's names aren't muscle bounded either, but those aren't rpg games. Geralt is tall but not muscular.

Muscular as in someone with body building or larger.

Unless you are a video game character I have no idea what your individual body type has to do with the argument video games tend to exaggerate/idealize the hell out of male proportions :P Even Geralt falls under that imo, though his armour may hide it to some extent:

@tmp7704

I'm not a bodybuilder, I was being silly in that part, not arguing, hence my emote there. :)  Though definition of Geralt's muscles in game scene, never really focused on paying attention to it supposed to mean he was a body builder type. I will digress on that one.

I did however point out, just cause its not a body builder type, doesn't require that body type being female.

Though you did write most rpgs, which I know those I played didn't have them pronounced huge size body types either. Fallout series he wasn't that big, though I must admit, I don't stare at their muscles or care to pay full attention to the design. If they are average size models, with drawn in mesh of muscular, that I ignore and consider normal. Where as a Cole Train, Marcus and others would appear muscle bound without looking at the mesh closely like I did with Geralts in that picture to see your point.

The way Varric stands shows muscular versus male inquisitor stands doesn't as much without looking at mesh closely.

This whole male modeling in a female quisitor thread is technically not ideal, so should leave it be. I got ya tmp7704, most builds are, but I prefer not saying those that are not are automatically female.

I find the whole notion of playing as a woman being a secondary option problematic. It seems to tie into the whole women not being important enough to make games about a lot of developers seem to hold.

But this conversation made me spend a lot more time staring at a qunari's crotch than I would otherwise have done, so thanks. :P

We could set up a roster to take turns if you're tired.

To be fair, when Sunset Overdrive announced their female player characters they showed one dressed in Assassin's Creed robes. Which is probably the closest the video game industry has ever been to actual satire.

@SadaukerElite  I played female warden, male warden then females again, not played a male Hawke yet. May not bother with a male Hawke as of yet.

Inquisitors I am looking at is female Qunari first, and now that I seen the elven female, I would want to play that one as well. Male may come after those two at least once for sure. Then another to see Bull's romance as too, maybe.

Staring at crotches, wouldn't that be considered creepy?

Yeah, which I didn't mind showing of female in AC outfit in Sunset Drive, found it intriguing they did it though.
