Even then, this is a world with magic. Use your imaginations, people.

This is true... but if Maevaris wanted to have a female body, then she probably would have one if it was possible through magical means? Or maybe she is just happy being who she is.  :)

Just speculation and fan ideas. In actuality, there doesn't seem to be any evidence for her in particular instead of Vivienne or even Solas or Blackwall. I notice that when most people think of trans* individuals, they seem to usually think of transwomen instead of transmen.

I do vaguely recall possibly seeing a developer mention there may be trans* characters in the game (which would make sense given what Alix said).

How in the heck could Blackwall be transgender?  Are you saying he's wearing a fake beard?  I mean, he is kind of mysterious, but still...

Anyway, in case this is off topic, I'm glad they showed a female Inquisitor in the E3 demos.

Not all trans people are dysphoric, so yes, she may be perfectly fine with her body. She does appear to have breasts, which could've been formed magically, or through other means.

Some female people can have beards.

Ah... okay, I guess this isn't something I should be joking about.  Forget I brought it up then.

edit:  But all jokes aside, him being transgender would be completely out of left field.

lol what. I'm willing to bet my life savings that Josephine is not a man.

Transpeople would fit more in a more modern setting and I'm sure that's all chronoid meant. Blatantly transphobic would be assaulting and or treating a trans person badly for no other reason than being trans.

If Josephine was trans...as in MAAB then Josephine would not be a man. She would be a woman. Or maybe genderqueer. Or perhaps she would identify in some other way. However unlikely the scenario seems, this potential status should still be treated respectfully :)

Additionally, saying, essentially, that this isn't a game that should involve trans* characters IS transphobic language. There is a real problem with anyones definition of an -ism if it means we can't stop it before affected individuals are assulted.

Eh, if it was a film set in Han dynasty China I'm sure most people would be fine with Eddie Murphy not being in it. Oh wait!

Watching the video got me really hopeful that there will be positive trans character(s) in DAI. Something David said at GaymerX (in regard to a fan question about trans characters in DAI, he said something like "I think you'll like what we did in this game"), makes me think we'll see SOMEONE anyway, even if it's likely not a companion.

EDIT: Sorry, I know I've talked about this on like three different threads, I'm just really stoked at this possibility.

I haven't read everything in here but I'll add that I'm also surprised after there was that femshep trailer for ME3 that everyone seemed to enjoy that hasn't yet happened for DAI.

Don't feel sorry, I truly hope that there is a positive trans character in the game and that the character is well received. It would be a wonderful thing to see this character treated with respect and dignity.

Ah, that has happened, though!  There is a trailer voiced by Alix Wilton Regan, and now a few of the gameplay trailers/demos with a female qunari.  This thread was first created before we got any of that.  Now it's more of a place to discuss the marketing and portrayal of women in DAI.

I'm excited if there is a trans character in the game, but I think it's best to keep the speculation about who it is to a minimum.  I find those discussions always cross into problematic zones, i.e. "she's probably trans because her face is kind of manly."  Even when the intent is that we hope a character is trans, it often relies on offensive stereotypes and that's not good for anyone.

One of my primary hopes remains that the player will be allowed to represent themselves in a variety of ways that maybe don't conform to traditional gender norms. If we have an Orlesian Ball mission, offer dresses and alternatives and make them fit all body structures available. All hairstyles available to people regardless of gender etc. I want to see trans* characters definitely. But I also really want the actual player able to represent themselves within this fictional setting.

And if Gaider was talking about it at Gaymer X, then that certainly seems like we will see at least one or two trans* individuals in game, which is so so so exciting :)

In case of any doubt, let me be clear: I love men, women, hermaphrodites etc, of all sexual orientations, races, religions, cultures etc.

Yeah, that's a little troubling... since scientifically speaking, humans cannot be 'hermaphrodites'. Also, I wonder what she's referring to... did people give her sh*t about the transgender line in the video? Cuz... intersex and transgender are two totally different things too.

The comments say that people were complaining that Alix was pushing gay rights and women's rights. Quelle horreur

What about the straight white men?! They're always ignored.

HEAVENS! Because we all know that if you talk about the accomplishments of a game company with regard to inclusivity, then it means you hate straight men. *rolls eyes*

What's so bad about "pushing" LGBT/women's rights anyway? I wish these people who complain about this stuff would just move on and play other games if talking about women and LGBT folks in games bothers them so much. :/

People always have some argument against representation because they feel threatened that giving more rights or representation to others is somehow going to take away something for them. They don't even get the fact that in most instances what is 'given' to others would never be directed towards them in the first place.

Yeah, a game full of white straight dudes / all is fine, the more harem the better

A game that shows finally some representation / "waaaahhh gay agenda, political correctness!!!!11"

It's simple, they finally see a game that doesn't cater to them only anymore and they go full panic mode. I just can't with them.

The trouble is that for years, rights have been depicted as a zero sum game, wherein one group benefits to the detriment of the other. I think it's understandable that some people mistakenly believe that more representation for one group will mean less representation for another, because that is how "power" has been constructed and propagandized for years. It is unfortunate.

A look into history:

http://www.bilerico....pression_in.php

http://en.wikipedia....e_United_States

But I see most already know they are historically been around. :)

I believe Alix was stating she had no issues with any sexualism or genderism, so if she slipped a word, I wont fault her. Cause I believe she is saying she loves all of them despite a word mix up or not. :)

I don't mind transgender being in the game, they are another person to talk to and learn from. :)  I know somethings I know cause of people I talked to directly instead of making my own mind up on words that was indirect. Meaning, I cant judge gay men by few people I met, cause they hate gay men themselves, I learned from a few gay men on what they was like instead.

Direct over bias, I probably am not saying this all right. :)  Sorry, sometimes I misconstrue my own words. I make my mind up on facts of the person and not just go by what other people say or think.
