So so far it seems that in advertising and demos that the genders are represented roughly equally

That makes me very curious to see the stats after a year or two after release, and see how many people played as what gender, I know for Mass Effect 3 the ratio was roughly 80-20 Male to female Shepards

Me too so long as they don't gimp their numbers by only using gold or ps+ account info only they need to use both free and paid for users. They also need to track useful data like custom male vs custom female and defult female vs defult male and display the info as such when they released the ME3 numbers they simply just stuck custom numbers as Xamount of players used a custom shep when infact they had the data on x amount of people customized fshep and mshep seperately. I did state way before what the number breakdown was for defult and custom m/f sheps though,Tracking and detailing specific hardware would be great too like  PC, xbox, ps and though I find it useless I know players do like to read up on fighting styles and I'd also like to know playthroughs with each character gender, was it defult or custom, and class completed so everyone can read things like

PC

% players created custom female elven hero

% players created custom female dwarf hero

ect

%players created custom male qunari hero

ect

% players used defult female human hero

% players used defult male dwarf hero

ect

% used female warrior class

% used male warrior class

% used male mage class

% used female mage class

ect

% completed the game with defult female elven rouge

% completed the game with custom male human mage

ect

Xbox

same data

PS

same data

BW could also make number collecting rather easy by offering an incentive to all players that click the yes collect my stat info on this console/pc on the game by saying and meaning that by clicking yes you are entered into a drawing to win something and then after x amount of months give a prize out if you want to collect data all year long before releasing the numbers maybe do 4 prizes for the year so players would be more willing to let you figure out what they're using character wise.

what are the stats for DA though? I thought I heard the developers say that DA appealed more to female players than Mass Effect, that would likely be a more appropriate comparison.

yeah, I'm sure they said that, but they never provided actual stats to my knowledge

Given an option and the game is compelling enough for you to replay many times over, do you see yourselves replaying the same female inquisitor (albeit with differing alignments and outcomes in the story) or trying different races and possibly gender?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In DA I've actually never made a male version because they were so horrible to look at! Maybe this round I might but I don't feel particularly compelled to do so unless I feel the male might have something I'd like to experiance but this is a DA thing. In ME I played 9fsheps to 1mshep.....ok I lied now that I think about it its not just a DA thing ME was the exception with mshep being played as with other RPGs its girls unless I really feel a male playthrough would yeild something different in the case of ME it does for 1% (I wish there were more differences) I actually haven't felt a male would bring anything else to enjoy I wasn't already enjoying as a woman in say Skyrim, State of Decay, Bound by flame, Saint's Row, Fallout, ect

I think I'll start and more then likely keep a woman if she lives I might replay her quest but for DA . I might make the sister or cousin to my DA woodland elf unless I can compel myself to replay her game and make her live but that'd mean killing Alister whom she loved so dearly so that's probably not going to happen because making him cheat on her or being a man to avoid it all isn't something I'd do either with her. Her story is too perfectly witten and ended in my mind for that to change now a relative of her's maybe....but I'd like to give the other species a try too I just hope I've got some stellar customization options for the qunari to make her look pretty or at least so badass I can't pass up on fallowing her. But I'm only going to play as warrior a bit and rouge alot no mage for me.

I have to admit, I'm pretty monotonous when it comes to my DA characters. My headcanon warden was a human female rogue, and my Hawke was also a human female rogue. I did try playing some of the other DA:O races and classes but lost interest pretty much after the origin stories were completed. My first DAI playthrough will also be a human female rogue! I don't know yet whether I will attempt other playthroughs. I tend to spend hours and hours and hours happily exploring game worlds, if I have that opportunity, so I may actually find pretty much everything of interest in DAI during my first playthrough. I've made it a personal goal to find all the hidden caves and things that Mike Laidlaw asked to have put in every open-world zone. ^-^

Even though I knew BioWare games usually let me play as a female lead, I wasn't really paying attention to their games when DAO came out. As a result, I only knew about it from a bunch of my female friends who told me I needed to buy it. Still sceptical, I was happy to learn whilst visiting my brother that he had bought it for his XBox, so I was able to play a bit on his console. That hooked me and I bought the game before returning to my isolated home in the north, where I promptly found myself staying up until 2 am on worknights regularly, playing the game. I played it so much I finished the game in like a week or two! I remember thinking "But... that's all? I killed the Archdemon and now I'm done?  *sniff*." Such a profound sense of disappointment yet also satisfaction - it was a strange mix! And I was glad when Awakenings came out.   :)

So dolls...?  Like BJDs or another kind?   :) I keep thinking of making an Alistair cosplay for one of my BJDs...

You collect BJDs? Me too! Which ones do you have?  :o  <3   As for the ones I'll be making, they will be 1/6 Obitsu's so I can make several on the cheap   I did make a Solas inspired outfit for my Dollshe Saint though!

BjDs?

thehomeworld, I actually agree with you. FA 3 and Vegas, played female only, though only played each of those once.  SR, Skyrim as well. Never played state of decay, didn't know it was male/female optional, Bound by flames I stopped but started with female.

Exactly what the title says.

I know that marketing's going to hound the developers to not show the women, because they assume males are their primary market.  But these forums alone contain oodles of women, and since forum posters are a minority I'd expect there are a whole lot more out there who don't post--and a few who are on the forums but don't admit to being female.  Not to mention I'm sure there are guys who'd prefer to play the female Inquisitor.  I don't think using her in marketing is going to hurt your sales.

There have been multiple studies done a few with adults and alot more with children the end conclusion men don't care if they play as a women or an unsexulized one.The problem is the publishers and purse strings of the gaming industry mostly they belive women don't sell then don't put much funds into it then it doesn't sell like wild fire and they go seeeeee! For cryingout loud back in 1989 Kings Quest IV had a female player range of 35 - 40% and sold over 200,000 copies, we constantly see people wanting a sequel to Mirror's Edge and Beyond Good and Evil that means demand is there and not getting met the majority of gamers don't have have issues playing as women or non sexulized ones its just the industry is still refusing to think of anyone that falls outside the target defult demographic actually exists and actually want a few tweaks to the primary formula made to enhance their enjoyment more in the product they buy.

BW needs to make her just as apealing to play as for general sense when she's presented as cool and able to take out the monsters like the male hero would auto be then regualar male gamers will go yeah I'd like to play as her and women seeing that ad will go I want to be her. I liked the fact she's used at E3 they weren't scard to show her and to do so in a way that wasn't all side show like we've got women heros now buy our product she was presented normally BW didn't bat an eye at her being used in any of the event thats a good start.

Yeah you can be any male or female you have in your group, you can also be a wide range of nationalities and a few different body types. The first and main game you start out as a black male but can switch early on to be the female marine or the white male eventually as you gain more survivors you can be whomever so long as they're not on a run or hospilized. In Lifeline you start as a woman commander and can switch between the various military members as you go. The game can be addicting.

But more onto topic BW for DAI is at least letting it be known you have the choice instead of most games having you figure it out with tons of research or after purchase. I hope BW keeps this up for all games going forward from game 1 making the advertising at least 50/50 for both genders or daul mentioning them in trailers if splitting them up becomes too expensive.

Here's some info about Femquisitor: her hips sway even more than Hawke's. Not exaggerating. Compare them. Inq / Hawke.

It takes galls for them to take the pretty much unanimous feedback on Femhawke and double down on it.

Are you sure its not the armor making it look like she has more movement? The armor the Inquisitor is wearing has a lot more on the hips, but I do agree there is still too much sway for someone wearing armor. At least the run looks better?

I'm really surprised they made the movements more exaggerated.

It's because the armor protrudes more instead of being like an extra layer of skin.

So so far it seems that in advertising and demos that the genders are represented roughly equally

That makes me very curious to see the stats after a year or two after release, and see how many people played as what gender, I know for Mass Effect 3 the ratio was roughly 80-20 Male to female Shepards

I'm curious about that, too.  As someone else said, I do suspect that DA has a larger female following to begin with.  But the continued use of female versions is starting to gain attention outside our little bubble.  I think there will be people who take interest because of that.

What I also find interesting is that the demos have been leaning towards female while the trailers have been largely male.  I wonder whether there is any reason for this?  Is it because the trailers require more levels of approval, and it's harder to convince the higher ups to let them use the female version?  Whereas it seems like they've been able to choose which race/gender/class they use for the demos on a whim?  Or is it deliberate?

I personally love that the female version keeps popping up in the more "meaty" videos, which the more hardcore gamers are going to watch.  Though I wouldn't mind a little inversion either, with another male demo and another female trailer.

The trailers are using a canon Inquisitor, which is why it is not only always a Human Male but the same Human Male.

I'm also keen to see the male qunari too, and see how he compares with IB. I'm still more stoked for a fem qunari playthrough but the more we see of everything, the more I want to see!

The fact we have 4 playable races is pretty damn cool.

I wonder if it's really exaggerated or more pronounced by the difference in models?  FemHawke's swaying hips never really bothered me, but you'd think they would have taken fan feedback into account when working on the new game.

Also, I know it's offtopic, but another BJD owner here, my collection is mostly Iplehouse, Soom and Volks.  I would LOVE to make some Bioware cosplay outfits for them.

Who said they didn't? Maybe there was just more people who liked it or were indifferent than those who didn't like it, thus the need for a new walk animation was determined as not necessary.

I thought it was the running animation that people were concerned with? If saying someone doesn't run correctly was questionable, saying it about their walk is even moreso.

Her arms don't seem to flail about as much as Hawke's during the run, though her hips still sway a bit.

I remember my femhwake has a lot more sway then what the video shows. I've never had her wear that armor either, so that might make a difference.

Yeah Hawke's run is what made me lol.

That and the animations.

Only time I use the walk is if I'm purposely having my character strut so the walk is meh then.

Of course, there is starting to be some push back against seeing so much of her in in-game footage...as any game sites comment section will show you

I'm glad we saw the human female at Gamescom (that hair still has me freaking out), and I'm grateful that showing female Inquisitor wasn't a one and done kinda thing and that they are sticking with her. However, I'm guessing at PaxPrime and the next big shows we will see a big push for male Inquisitor/as the date gets closer. Which isn't really a problem, I'd love to see a male Elven rogue next. I'm just irked that theres been any sort of negativity around femquisitor getting some screentime. Every time I see male Inquisitor in the trailers I don't roll my eyes and go 'of course they used a dude ugh'.  <_<

I'm really hoping we will get 4 Inquisitor trailers, one with each voice actor narrating.
