I tend to zoom the camera out as far as possible (lets me spot enemies that much sooner) and run everywhere, so I can honestly say I didn't really notice my female Hawke's sashaying.

I don't mind a sashay walk.

It's the run that bothers me =/

At least the run has gotten better than in DA2 though.

The hip sway has never bothered me too much, although I did notice it, but the way Hawke held her wrist when running? That limp hand ...flail? It was awful.

If they've fixed the wrist, then the walk will be fine, in my playthrough.

I wasn't a fan of Hawke's walk in DA2, and whilst I find the Inquisitor's walk better, I'd still prefer it to be toned down just a tad.

That said, I've just started replaying ME2 and I can't help but think that pretty much anything would be better than Shepard's walk in that game.

shepard: what are knees

Shepard: my phantom muscles are getting in the way of my noodly arms, better hold them as far from my body as I can get them.

I wasn't going to bring up Shepard, but it really raises a question that I have trouble answering.  Is it better if the female PC is so ignored that she doesn't get her own run animations, or is it better if the female PC gets animations that are ridiculously "girly"?  I posed that question to my roommate, and after thinking about it a while she said, "well at least Shepard's linebacker run makes me laugh."

In more positive news, it looks like the default reaver for MP will be female!

femshep would have no problem playing a fullback in the NFL the way she runs in ME3

I will give Bioware it's due - much as I disliked FHawke's walk/run, it was at least distinct from MHawke's. That they were willing to spend resources on giving the female protagonist her own animations rather than reusing the male protagonist's (like with Shepard and The Warden) really impressed me.
I can't say I like either option - forcing female characters to walk in a very 'masculine' manner or forcing female characters to walk in a very 'femimine' manner - I would have preferred a middle-ground, or at least to have had the 'femininity' downplayed just a tad.

Maybe next time, they should work on the female protagonist's animations first and just give her a normal walk/run.

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that they'll do the female protagonist first for anything.  I'm pretty sure they'd need to start on her first right from the concept stage for that to happen.

A picture of the female Reaver, courtesy of the Twitter thread.  So I guess the MP characters are each a set character, so some will be male and some female?

How many MP characters will be available at launch?

· Twelve characters, four for each class (warrior, rogue, and mage), will be available at launch. Characters from the same class can be very different. For example, let's take a Legionnaire and a Reaver. A Legionnaire can handle a weapon and shield and plays the role of a classic tank. Generating aggro and soaking up damage are his main role in a party. The Reaver is a two-handed warrior who focuses more on dealing damage and generating aggro, and her skills can buff herself or the entire party. The Legionnaire and the Reaver are both warriors, but depending on your party composition and your style, one may be more suitable than the other.

So... in regards to MP, I have been trying to tell all my friends that DAI looks to be awesome, so they should buy it, but many are on the "DA2 sucked so I'm going to wait a while to see what players think" bandwagon.  Which is fine, but it makes it difficult for me to figure out how I'll do MP before my RL friends buy it (if they do). There's talk of a "DAMP" community so people in my sort of situation can find people to MP DAI with, but as a female player, that might be a bit of a minefield to navigate. I'm thinking of the dudebro gamers who lose their minds when they find out a female player is amongst them (heavens forbid!). Anyway, just wondering if there might be interest among the people on this thread to have a DAMP sub-community for players that are cool with female (and LGBT+) players, so we can hang out in MP with people who aren't going to make us feel unwelcome?

Since this is not really on-topic for this thread, perhaps you can PM me if you want something like this, too. If enough people are interested, we could maybe even start a group on this forum.

I'd welcome you to MP matchup with me ladyiolanthe. I have no qualms of females grouping with me, Id just worry if they thought I sucked. :)  But at same time I wouldn't care much, as long as succeed in our tasks, and try our best is what matters and importantly the biggest thing, FUN. ;)

With the right group I may consider MP, but I generally hate random grouping, some people are so rude and too hardcore.

I lack the skills I had in ME3MP. I was hated by one person cause I had the most kills, or I was playing unfair, possibly. All I cared about was getting to the end, the losses sucked. Usually I play maps starting out alone, someone jumps in while I am nuking enemies. That is how I got rated bad by someone.  *shrugs*  When solo'ing a battle like that, want the class/race that allows to get to wave 9 without help. :)

I support this . I play mostly rpg games and sometimes strategy games . And because the Trailer is always a dude , I just stopped watching those and just jump directly in the game . ( <_< did they ever make a female Hawk trailer?) .

I've never done MP before but would LOVE to with you guys!! :D That sounds like it would be extremely fun.

I'll be honest - the thought of connecting to a MP with a bunch of randoms who aren't expecting a woman really frightens me. I want to enjoy this feature but god dammit I don't want to be harassed!

The problem with the walk and run is that they aren't cool enough. Shepard's animations weren't cool either, but that somehow suited Shepard*. The whole notion that boys run with their knees at right angles and girls run like pansies is a disservice to both genders.

But then I see the two handed animations still involve swinging a sword around like an eight year old with a surfboard, so... yeah.

*I don't like Shepard.

Well, platforms will matter too, I believe, so if you're a PC gamer, then it'd work.  ;) If there's interest in starting a group (and I've had a few positive replies so far already) then I think it would make sense to have threads for each platform so that people can find welcoming players who share the same platform.

Yeah, it can be difficult to find some other players who fit with your own playing style; I'll have to think about how we could make it easier for individuals to find MP teammates who are more hardcore or more laid back, depending on their own playing style.

Yes, Mes, that's why I thought something like this might be a good idea. I feel the same way as you!

I'd be interested in grouping up with people for the MP aspect of the game - depending on if my decrepit computer can handle it.

As far as harassment due to being female, I guess I've just been one of the lucky ones - or the fact that I've also played quite a few MMO's and usually have proven my ability to the other gamers prior to them ever finding out my gender (if they ever did learn to begin with).  Don't let fear of what may happen keep you from enjoying an aspect of the game you're interested in trying.

I'm thinking of the dudebro gamers who lose their minds when they find out a female player is amongst them

As a female who played tons of the ME3 MP, I can at least offer the personal annedocte that I was never harassed by dudebros in that game, or had any guy particularly mind-blown by a female voice in the room. Don't know if it was the niche nature of fans who kept playing even through/after the whole ending kerfkuffle that filtered the gross people out or what, but it was a completely different experience from any other MP I've ever played. Where I never bother opening the mic in any other game, in the Mass Effect MP I would freely chatter with the dude players and even made some friends there. So, here's hoping we can develop a decent, respectful community around DAMP too.

That said, I'm all over a female and LGBT-friendly DAMP guild, so I'm definitely gonna hit you guys up for that invite. ^_^

The last time I played multiplayer was March 2012 when ME3 came out. Only to get my Galactic Readiness up. Might try it for DAI. Only if I don't have to listen to children expressing the limit of their vocabulary with 4-letter words.
