And personally I prefer the term Social Justice Mage. -_-

I prefer Social Justice Rogue.  ^_^ Warrior class can be boring.

Contractual obligations. Back during the interim between DAO and DA2, we had to sign an agreement to talk about the Witcher every five posts or so.

I'd rather be a SJP (Social Justice Princess)

I'll just scream, shout, pout and stamp my foot for social justice!!!

Does that mean you will have the obligatory SJp (Social Justice Prince) come save you from your distressing... independence?

Give me a break. You do understand TW2 made unapologetic empowered females and all you guys did was ****** about it? And then TR came about, and all everyone did is complain about rape, when the FEMALE writer had thought this through?

Empowered females in TW2? Do you mean the females who were tarted up to the last woman? Do you mean the women who all threw themselves sexually at Geralt as a "reward" for rescuing them or Triss who's main purpose in the game is to be a damsel for Geralt to rescue? Or Vess who gets raped and left a whimpering mess unlike her male companions who were just killed? Yeah no. TW2 had good points, its' treatment of women wasn't one of them.

Save me?  He's my adoring pet attack dog.  Don't buy into the defenseless act, I just know it's better to convince someone else to attack the lion while you get away then it is to try and outrun someone.

Don't confuse the male dupe with the superior male.  One is merely an illusion ;)

I suppose that's the issue - if you ignore all the legitimate criticism in the process. Things like corruption, intellectual dishonesty, and so on? Both of those situations are giant cans of worms, and are nowhere nearly as simple as some people make them to be.

That's always been my problem with a lot of things in general. Yes, some people do horrible things and that shouldn't be encouraged - but some will also use the whackjobs as a shield to deflect any legitimate complaints people may have against Person X or Product Y. Hell, Bioware even did this with DA2.

Shouldn't be encouraged?  Really?  Ya think?  Wow -- strong stand there.

I don't care, as I said above, what someone has done.  The issue is simple.  Sexually fuelled death threats, made by male, usually white, whiny man children,  are never acceptable.  Never.  No matter what.  Not even if you love gaming as it is and fear change, for reasons best known to yourself.

The fact that this appalling behaviour is excused by "oh, the situation is complicated" or any variant of "she started it/asked for it" does not wash.

Legitimate criticism has its place.  But just now it's being hopelessly mired with misogynist bull and largely perpetrated by people who take allegations on faith and don't understand how academic critiques work, but just want to crap all over the chessboard to disguise the fact that they can't actually play.

So does calling for change in the industry when it's stuck in an outdated and harmful mindset. (ETA"  Have a place)

Social Justice Jedi,

Vian

Off topic but man I love your avatar! :D You always have interesting ones, but this one... heh heh heh.

You know, speaking (grudgingly...) of TW2, I have a work colleague who absolutely loves the series, like I love Dragon Age. I explained to him that I didn't have any interest in playing it myself due to its treatment of women. A few days later, he told me he could see what I meant as he was playing it. Like here was a dude who loved The Witcher, but took my comments seriously and can now see the game in an altered light. I will never forget it.

Anyway his love of the series didn't change, and he still gushes to me about trailers for TW3 as I simultaneously gush about DA3 stuff. But the point is he listened to a different point of view and accepted and respected it. Weird, huh.

I leave the fire and brimstone to other people. I think anything someone does that puts you against, you know, the law speaks enough in and of itself.

And nowhere did I say it was excused or validated. Only that the situation is not as simple as some people want to make it out to be.

That line of reasoning is what allows people like Zoe Quinn to falsely accuse websites of "raiding" her

See now you just need to play up to that appreciation.  Tell him how much you respect him for doing that and how amazing he is for being able to see how the game made you feel.  Stroke his ego a bit, point him in a direction, and let go of the leash.  Attack dog in action. ;)

It's my response to Solas being romance gated against males and non elves lol I said I'd get ugly cry face ready!

It's awesome that your friend was able to see things from a different perspective, I think most male gamers are the same. It's the loud and crazed minority that have never talked to a living, breathing woman in their lives that give the industry a bad name and keep developers afraid to branch out.

On the Anita Sarkeesian thing people were talking about, people's behavior towards her is horrific and disturbing. Really people? Death and rape threats because she makes youtube videos you don't like? I think she's an idiot and a hack, but behaving like that towards her is just unforgivable.

Often I ask myself this: Is the real deep down probleme is that peoples really see it differently (refering to the 'Oh the situation is complicated) or is it due to the implication of things ? Meaning if you ADMIT or give an opinion that equal 'I have to do something about it ' but since it is too troublesome let me get my skip a turn card and go 'Oh its complicated' .

I mean , the whole gaming zone . The real issue to not having many females in the industry or in game , or be them portrayed as such and such . The real issue isn't that the corporation doesnt listen...there is also the fact that you have to go trough alot of player who dont agree with you , dont want to agree with you , dont care for your plight , dont want things to change , and dont give a damn you are getting none . But they will still stand in your way none the less .

Oh do share. Please tell me how I "don't understand" a game I beat 3 times.

Every woman in the game being a prostitute, a prize, a damsel, or eye candy is not hard to understand and has nothing to do with any morally grey storyline.
