because you got to see her breasts? Triss has no role in the Witcher other than to be a damsel in distress. Compare that to the well rounded women with backgrounds and plot relevance in most BioWare games and there is no competition.

Triss is the one that rescues Geralt more often than the other way around. If anything, it's Bioware's women that are generally drenched in stereotype.

Please, no more Witcher stuff.... its annoying, he is annoying to me. Anymore of that bs of W2 vs DA will definitely close me off from checking out Witcher 3 any further. They have good points and bad points, fine, yes, whatever...enough of it already, please..

Nobody is trying to convince you to check any of the Witcher games out, what's equally annoying is that a lot of people without any knowledge of the setting simply go by 'I heard the game treats women poorly' and make false statements.

That said, I enjoy both franchises so I'm willing to make points for either when needed.

For what it's worth, I played about an hour of the Witcher not long after it came out, got tired of all the "women as sex objects" stuff, and never played it again. And I've been a regular member of Second Life's seeder community for just over six years now.

Yeah, I played The Witcher for an hour when it first came out and haaaaaaated it. (Mind you, what I mostly hated was the fixed main character, the combat and the art design. I didn't even get any sex cards to hate.)

... anyway, how about that Lady Inquisitor?

In other female playable character news, I'm thrilled to see that half the multiplayer characters are women, even though I have no interest in playing multiplayer myself. One of them even appears to be a female dwarf!

^ this.

The witcher was good in gameplay, but the sexism was absolutely sickening.

Its the loud immature part of the fanbase that gives the witcher games a bad reputation.

The mature part is very different.

I think there are some areas that the Witcher series does better job than Dragon Age (political intrigue for example), but it's portrayal of female characters isn't one of them. And I say that as someone who thought TW2 was much a better game than DA2 overall.

Actually it does quite well.

The Witcher simply isn't a politically correct game that strives to please all the minorities that play it.

It's realistic. Women didn't widely join the military until our days. There's a reason Ves is the only woman in the Stripes.

If you prefer GURL POWER ( Aveline still provokes cringes ) and forced political correctness over realism then by all means, play Dragon Age.

I played The Witcher.  I was ill by the time I finished it.  And it told me everything I'd ever need to know about the franchise and how it'd treat women.

I'm very elated about that.  It's an even 6 women/6 men split in DAMP.  And yes, indeed, The Alchemist is a Dwarven Lass.  A+, BioWare.  Gold star and a cookie too.

Yeah all those elves and other supernatural stuff.

Super realism...

Anyhoo...

Did anyone post the DA vid where you can actually hear the femqunari voice?

I also like how realistic it is that Geralt never removes his pants.  Ever.

I guess one problem is that women are still considered a "minority", by some for some crazy reason.

What is so cringe-worthy about Aveline?

I never tire of the realism argument, especially when, more often than not, it's something that I find is generally being pushed from a position of privilege, which is why I'm loath to take it seriously.

So you're saying me there's no chance in hell a person ( male or female ) would sleep with the hero that saved him/her from death?

People nowadays sleep with randoms they picked up in clubs, but somehow you find it weird the above happens?

Hell, Isabella sleeps with you in Origins just because you beat her at a card game, but you conveniently ignore that just so you have something witty to retort with.

What is so cringe-worthy about Aveline?

They went out of their way to make her a brutish stongwoman.

The term ''woman battering ram'' is thrown out way too often.

She also tackles your character and punches him and you can't even hit back.

Well, they are.

A minority is what's outside the majority, so they fit the definition.

Oooooh thanks, actually the one I was thinking of was with Cameron Lee and it covers a few other things including Morrigan and her role.

Is there one out with the American voice?

aveline is cool man it's nice to see a woman that looks like she could actually have a fair fight with a man

so you know, ves is actually less realistic

I'll admit, i really like Triss Merigold and most of the women in TW, but some of the treatment they get is.... cringeworthy at best. I feel sorry for them.

Edit: not to say that DA is perfect...

Is she? At least Ves wins her battles through skill and she's an agent rather than a forced gurl power character.

Aveline is Dragon Age's Brienne.

I'm surprised the Vega/Shepard situation in Citadel DLC hasn't come up in this line of discussion

That has to be 1 of the most uncomfortable parts of the ME series, im not sure why any of the writers thought "hey, this is a great idea" when it was basically female Shepard date raping a guy who was clearly not interested by getting him so drunk he couldn't say no anymore. If they were going for comedy they failed hard, all it did was make Shepard look like some kind of sexual predator :?

Girl power characters are usually more like Katniss, Princess Merida, Black Widow, Tallis and maybe Isabella. Aveline doesn't fit the profile at all
