I don't want to ask this in a way that expresses doubt/disagreement, but how widespread do you find this?

It's not just in the games. It's in alot of media and really I'm tired of it. (Of course this is assuming very large breasted women are in the movie to begin with which...isn't often). For most people a C to D seems to be large. So assuming someone who's size is similar to mine is even there to begin with she's usually there as a sex bomb to be leered at or a joke.

I've mostly seen it in anime, but the issue was most prominent to me in the Elder Scrolls modding community. There's a huge emphasis on appearance mods in almost every modding community, but any game that allows for body modding will take that emphasis to another level. Smaller busted body mods were routinely lambasted as a form of "pedophilia," or more mildly, as "childish." But the message was clear: smaller breasts were "wrong." It was an extremely depressing atmosphere.

edit: I was confusing your post with a previous one about smaller bust sizes, sorry. It is true that modded breast sizes above C or D were primarily comedic and/or fetishistic, and commentary about them tended to reflect that.

In both cases, I was provided with enough evidence to prompt me to ditch the modding community entirely.

You know I love mods , but I feel as the years pass . Peoples age and step away from the modding community , and a new generation walk in to take their places . And I can't help but notice..it change and not in a good way .

It is always depressing . I find it baffeling the amount of focus our gender is getting in the sex departement . Yet that is just it . If you dare bring the topic of womens oppressed....Ohhh beware !!! the term 'Femenist' is throw your way like a bullet to shut you up for good .

Yeah that sucks :(

And there's a mere handful of female actors with cups above those. So there's mostly a complete lack of representation and when there finally is it tends to blow chunks.

XD I actually don't mind the somewhat bigger breasts mods (I use them for my female PCs). I just ditch the might as well be walking around naked outfits -_-

Usually when someone starts using the term feminist around here in a negative way, then they go onto my ignore list.  Honestly, most of the real jerks that think/act that way are overall a minority on the forums.  My advice to you is to just ignore them.  If they are being really hostile and insulting, then report them.  If you don't know how to report someone, hit me up with a PM and I'll guide you through it.

Try to think about it like this: People who post things like that are a dying breed, and they know it.  They are just trying to lash out, because things are changing and they are uncomfortable about that.  Just ignore them, laugh and walk it off.  In this thread alone we've had a few members of the DA team come in and talk to us, so it's obvious that they care.  I know it's hard to deal with those trolls sometimes, and it can be disheartening.  Remember, there is plenty of evidence that folks like that are losing power to bully women gamers and the gaming industry in general.

Keep your head up, and you'll be fine.   :D

My suggestion when the feminist thing comes up is to not fall into that trap, I mean seriously.  The whole goal is to make you try and defend feminism and completely sidetrack everything and try to make you seem to only care about women, and try and manipulate you into proving their point.

Every time I see someone bring up feminism and attack it, without fail, everyone starts trying to defend feminism.

They use this tactic because it's effective, it works, and people let them.  Everything that's bad towards women, can be approached as equal rights, without feminism.  Don't fall into defending feminism, just stick to equal rights, and human rights period, and stop trying to convince someone that feminism fits that.  The fact that is has Fem in the word implies caring about ones groups rights over others, even if that's not the actual intent or truth.  You can't win using that word, you just end up fighting about the term.  Is a pointless waste of effort, and is only helping the other side.  It's a trap with bait that is just too good.

Hey, that's a fine way to look at it.  This forum is actually pretty unique, and I've heard the term "safe haven" come up more than once.  This is one of the very very few forum boards (and the first official company gaming forum) where I can be out as a woman and as a pansexual and I know I'll be accepted.  I also know that many of the mods, and BW employees like Allan and DG have a zero tolerance policy for harassment.  Shoot, Allan is probably one of the most open game employees I've ever seen on a gaming forum board from an AAA gaming company.  He really wants to learn and listen.

Puppy here nailed it.  Damned good advice.  Also, I know of a few self-affirmed feminists that can also talk to you about handling folks like that with grace, and they do surf this thread.

Oh goodness that horrible conversation I had where a young man tried to 'educate' me on how all feminist are evil creatures and deserve all the harassment they get is flooding back to me oh dear. I need to find something soft to snuggle to get that out of my head now. I love how this place has an ignore feature on it though but I do for some really stupid reason hate using it yet at the same time wish real life had one I think I'd use it on half the people in my town ^^;

First off, been awhile <hug!>

Secondly, a good change of pace here: What race/class combo to you want to see up next, and why?  Go nuts, tell me what hair/eye color/hairstyle you would like.  It beats talking about jerks and I'm honestly curious what some of your guys think.

I came out on here as a transsexual woman, and no one has treated me as less than the woman I am.  I feel very comfortable here in that respect. :)

I want to see a dwarf rogue. Hopefully with long hair, dark skin and dark eyes. Preferably braided hair too.

Same, I feel both dwarves and rogues have been under-utilized.  Either way, I hope it will be a character with dark skin.

Even from the "other side", I wholly support that message.

Because Feminism has so many interpretations, so many shades and colors, so many demands and so many individual understandings, that everybody who wants a reason to hate it will find some straw man (or weak man) argument to argue against it. So everybody will pick a definition that suits their argument.

However, I have yet to find a decent person who does not subscribe to the idea of equal rights or equal human rights. Because that's pretty clearly defined.

Appearance mods can get really uncomfortable really quickly, especially 1's like that "improved" Isabela mod that turned her into a blonde white woman & was depressingly popular :?

Hum....I want the class combos we had in Baldur's Gate 2 . I know it may seem unrealistic . But we could be a 'Mage/warrior' and be limited as not being able to cast if we wear heavy armor .

But with the topic at hand.....I want a dwarf Wizard ! And I know! Dwarf can't use magic . But..if my theory that the green stuff we see is Synthesis  then my dream isn't far fetched LOL

Here's mine:

Dark hair, with some sort of braid, grey eyes, darker skinned.  Dwarven archer, with a crossbow.  ;)

Sad thing is while the mod only made me eye twitch it was the description that actually made me angry/depressed. "Fixing her overly dark everything for a new kind of beautiful." oh **** you mod creator.

Same. Hopefully with dark skin without the weird splotches of orange/purple the earlier games had. DAO and DA2 did not do dark skin tones very well :X

Which bummed me out cause I usually love my dark ladies but in DAO and DA2 that wasn't happening.

For real. Mods that aim to "fix" female PCs and NPCs tend to be godawful in general.

Hear, hear. I'll even take a slight tan if that's the best they've got. Does no one take sunbaths in Thedas?

I prefer gender egalitarian myself. Although admittedly that perspective is also influenced by several distasteful experiences with self proclaimed feminists.
