Same here. I don't want the hero to be weak all the time but I don't want them to be infallible either, I want them strong but with human weakness. I get bored if I am playing a god-like Mary Sue who is so much better at combat than everyone else that no one would ever have to worry about them. Fighting some drunk mercenaries in a bar? No need for the LI to worry. Going into a dark, endless cave alone to fight a huge monster that has killed everyone who has dared cross its' path? Some loving concern would not be out of place. I want to see the PC fail at times, worry at times, be sick with grief at times and not just a paragon of strength and confidence.
Put me in the camp of wanting a LI that can be as strong as the PC, the two can take turns saving each other's skin, and who is traditionally respectful and chivalrous. One of my favorite parts in KotOR was when Carth chews out that sleazy guy in the Tatooine bar for sleazing on female Revan. I don't want my PC to always be the leader, always be the last word, always have the dominant opinion in everything and the LI never really stands up to them. This gives me the impression of meek, subservient LI's which is unappealing to me.
I never said that the protagonist shouldn't have weakness, and shouldn't be worried over. I actually said I like the idea of the Inquisitor (or other protagonist) being the source of concern. What I don't like is the idea that a female protagonist somehow "needs" protection. You have an entire squad/party watching your back most of the time after all. And I repeat, the whole overprotective attitude thing often gives me creepy "possessiveness" vibes... as though women are items to be protected, rather than people who can make their own decisions, even if their boyfriends/husbands/lovers/fathers/etc. might not necessarily agree with or like those decisions. A man can be worried about a woman and still respect her decisions, and vice versa. And yet you didn't see Morrigan refusing to let the male Warden take the final blow against the Archdemon...
I guess it's just a peeve of mine that the number one thing a male romantic interest tends to say is that he'll protect the female character. It's not that I don't want him to watch her back, I repeat, it's that she is capable already, and has an entire group of people looking out for her. And it implies that he would NOT have looked out for her before the relationship, too--was she not worth looking out for before? Did you ignore her when she was in danger...? No? Okay then... And yes, your romantic interest will probably concern you more, but your dear friend should mean something to you as well...
Anyways.
In terms of marketing, what more do you think could be done in terms of the Lady Inquisitor? I agree I'd like to see more dark-skinned Inquisitors, and see dwarven and elven Inquisitors. I also want to see a trailer that shows more than a small clip of the Lady Inquisitor at the end and features her voice--I want a trailer showing the Lady Inquisitor throughout it.
The website issue has been corrected (it is now open and clear that you can be female--potential fans checking out the site who didn't know that, now will, and it may win a few ladies over), and we've seen a couple demos showing the Lady Inquisitor.
There are some things I'd like to see marketed that I don't believe will. I mentioned the ball, but even I do not really want that spoiled for me, if we actually get to dance/mingle. I also think marketing a small amount of romance in a trailer would appeal to both men and women, but it would also be spoilery for those who have tried to avoid such knowledge. And I'm not sure I'd want to see any clips of the romance cutscenes either, for the same reason (I don't like too many spoilers).
I believe it could be neat to show a trailer with a scene or two from the game (not too spoilery) wherein a male Inquisitor and a female Inquisitor both feature. One chooses one set of options/dialogues, the other chooses the other. But, again, for some even minor side quests might be too spoilerish.
(Yes, I'm trying hard to get us back on topic. If we can't get back on topic and stay back on topic, we may end up having the thread closed, or needing to move to another part of the forum.)
