This if they're worried about animations couldn't they have made it a short dress? (Like Shep's but without that abomination of a zipper on the back).

 

It's difficult to speculate as these things are usually complex problems. Tightly wound cloth should behave in a certain way, which a normal mesh wrapped around animated legs won't because it will stretch wrong. You could make it float out further but then it clips and so on. There are cloth physics, but they have physics in their name which is another set of problems.

 

At the end of the day it takes a certain amount of time to make it look a certain level of good. Different people have different ideas about what is worthwhile.

Don't mage robes still exist? A dress animation would just have to be similar to that. I don't expect any serious problems on that front.

Go look at female Qunari Mage.....that outfit is a Mage robe..I think . Maybe they took the old robe design off..lot of peoples didn't like them .

Okay for everyone wanting to know about attire for the Orlesian ball ladyiolanthe kindly asked at the expo and the full answer is in her thread in scuttlebutt http://forum.bioware...d-events/page-3  but basically the answer is no dresses or gowns due to animating them especially in that context and with enough materials. Also that dresses would be hard to fight in... leaving what that means to be speculated upon...   (I'm thinking the obvious... and that Viv won't be impressed if her ball is ruined by fighting... assuming it's her ball that is and she doesn't start the fight herself  ).

 

Sorry for everyone that wanted a dress or gown for the ball 

 

I'm still hoping you can have attractive casual outfits at the keep and manage to find some armours attractive as well. Oh and there's a material called Lazarite that makes your armours or at least plate mail purple in colour for those that like purple.

Beside the Grand Ball will be fun hopefully , and you get to Dance with your chosen Li and snuggle......and maybe even step on some Orlesian Toe ! Think of the Mayhem !

No, I'm saying my LI Josephine wears a dress, so if it is because of animation issues then I can't dance with her.

That's not a fair assumption. We've seen male and female dancers with the women in dresses in trailers. The animation issues were likely with stealth, combat, exploration and possibly two dressed women dancing. The point is the Inquisitor can't wear a dress, we don't know anymore than that.

 

It should also be noted game designers sometimes simplify their explanations of things.

Actually, it's apparently random - sometimes female will be the initial choice, sometimes male. Which is also really cool.

This kind of thing makes me want to just forget playing a female character for the most part and play a guy.  I really don't care about dress physics being perfect. Better slightly weird animations than having to dress in either frumpy formal man clothes or armor and that's all. I mean we already have long coats and buttflaps and such, is it really such a nightmare to make it a little longer and let us wear something like this? (my SWtOR sage has no problem fighting in this)

I'm not worried about the facial features, the CC seems really detailed. We've only seen the default female Qunari faces which they barely customized in the demo. I mean look how extreme the features of "Beauty" were. I'm sure it can go extreme in the other way with tiny button noses and slim dainty jaws and such and anything in between.

I'm pretty sure I can make a softer looking female Qunari as long as I can mold the face which we can. The hornless one didn't look as severe anyway so using her as base...

 

But the short hair I admit bums me out =(
