Yep there are paintings.Well I know a number of paintings and scenes where the men have been wearing raised court shoes, the ones with the buckles across the toe?

Male Hawke with magical girl transformation powers. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad he didn't have long hair though ![]()
So, female dwarves can have stubble, if you wish.
Yes, I couldn't believe it when I heard that! After all this time of flat-out telling us "no," in the stream they said "we thought, well, why not?" No full beard options for the ladies, but it's still cool.
They were toggling through the beard options pretty quick, but I got one screenshot of stubble on a dark-skinned lady dwarf.

This is rather neat. Dwarven women can have stubble and it looks like all of the guys can wear makeup. This is pretty neat. Question: Does anyone know if there is a way to darken the eyes like eyeliner? Dark eyeliner is the one touch of makeup I would certainly use on a male character.

My friend is awesome, one of the longest I've had on the forums. He's bi and he's also very supportive of this thread. He just doesn't post in this thread much.

You can have eye-shadow, a separate under-eye shadow, and eye-liner. Intensity options for all three of those, and they all are connected to a colour wheel. So you're in luck!
I'm glad female dwarves have beards, but, and this is weird, there's, like, a big group saying that beards should've been left to males and make-up left to females. As if more choices is such a bad thing. Ugh.... people.
SO EXCITED TO GET MY GUYLINER ON.

I'm ignoring them altogether. As the kids would say, haters are gonna hate. Me, I've got my choices and it's just fantastic! ![]()

YES. MOAR CHOICES = MOAR FUNTIMES!
Oh Maker, spelling like that, in caps no less, is mentally exhausting. Ugh.
That's really exciting! Thank you for the screen cap Lady Nuggins! There will always be people who hate on options like this being available, but I think the people options like this helps represent, particularly non-binary individuals is really great. I still will always wish that voices weren't tied to certain body types, but these are all positive steps ins the right direction, in my opinion at least.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, however the voices default based on race but are still changeable.

The voices are still locked by gender, so you can't have a masculine voice on a feminine body or vice-versa. Still, there are so many options in the character creator that we can make some serious gender nonconforming characters.
I know I don't post in here usually. But I'm really glad to see that a majority of the gameplay has been with female PC's. It's a big step in the right direction, though more needs to be done. Particularly some of the attitude issues the 'hardcore' gamers have on female gamers. Not saying all of them are bad, but in my experience that is the group where most of the misogyny and threats comes from.
But yeah, it's nice to see females get the spotlight for once.

Yes, though depending on what you want the two voices seem to offer a decent scope, for two. I suspect letting you use alternate gender voices would sound obvious, it may also open up a whole heap of contingencies BioWare would have to account for, depending on how exactly the voices work.

The biggest issues would be recording the different voices for varying pronoun usage. I don't know how much that would be as a percentage of all lines, but it would definitely not be the same as simply saying "use voice male 1" for a lot of the lines.

It's really too bad-- I mean, I understand it's probably a matter of time and money, but other than that, it seems like all it would take is for each voice to record every line, regardless of gender, like Bioware did with Mass Effect (I think it was the first game?). I've heard they did that just as a fail safe, to make sure nothing accidentally got left out, but why not do that anyway, so that each voice COULD be available for either gender?
Anyway, I understand it's not an option in DAI, but if it could be something the team thinks about for the next game, that'd be pretty amazing.

Setting aside the representational benefits of this approach, there's also the side bonus of it contorting gender conventions.

Totally. On the other hand, though, even though we can't customize the bodies of our characters, the racial choices do enable us to blur gender conventions pretty heavily. You could probably make a very feminine elf using the male base, and a very masculine dwarf or qunari using the female base. Then utilize the armor crafting system to further obscure their body type.

Hmm, if the muscular and hairy races are used for masculine characters, and the petite, smooth skinned one is used for feminine characters, are gender conventions being blurred or followed?

Using the female base for a masculine character and using a male base for a feminine character is already breaking gender conventions.
At this point I'd like to see more of the other races of both genders, we've seen human female/male and qunari female fiarly extensively, anybody else want to see female elf or dwarven male?
