I'm out of likes but + like for all your posts on the last couple of pages Natashina and I totally agree.  B)

I would point out that since the inquisitor's helmet is supposed to be the iconic representation you could have male or female inquisitors in it and the marketing would remain consistent. In fact in the last few gameplay vids featuring a male inquisitor (with about three blink and you'll miss her... I think it's a she   shots of lady inquisitor in all of them combined) they showed him without the iconic helmet more often than not so isn't that stepping away from the iconic image?

In the final video of the series they actually said you could pick your gender and race in dragon age and proceeded to show a human, dwarf and qunari male and an ambiguous elf when right there in that video was a perfect chance to show off a female inquisitor. They used the character from some of Cameron's playthroughs all they needed to do was use one of Mike Laidlaw's inquisitors (which they've also shown briefly in twitch streams) and they could have evened it out especially since there's a narrator talking us through anyway.

At this point all of the trailers/videos except one have starred the male inquisitor as have several gameplay demos and videos while we've had a female qunari in some demos and some female inquisitors in a couple of other gameplay videos. The one female inquisitor trailer requires you to know that's what it is to identify both that the female inquisitor is talking and that she's there for the last 10 seconds of video. I'm not expecting equal time because unfortunately I know we're not there yet but a female inquisitor (of colour) in one trailer where she has all the action and attention lavished on the male inquisitor doesn't seem too much to ask for... and for consistency she can wear the helmet same as he used to do.  ;)

As far as box art goes for me as long as they write in the blurb that you can pick your race and gender it's a step in the right direction cause you can pick up the box and see that right on it and know you can play female or male right there in the store. No being required to do a lot of research if you missed all the advertising it's said plainly on the box. Would I like posters and box art that features female and male player characters too? Absolutely cause then people might pick up the box and go on to read about their options.  :P

Back in the 90's you had many one I can think of off the top of my head Conflict series, Medal of Honor showed they could have them then didn't, COD2 played with the option of releasing 500,000 copies of a limited edition where the player could choose to be female in SP and MP but that proposal never made it past pitching it seems, Saints Row removed their fem hero, as for others well I try hard not to buy them, I've gotten many rpgs in my long gaming life wanted to play as a girl found out I couldn't and promptly returned it because that little feature killed me wanting to be in their game world.

Yep me too and at the time I took them back I was disappointed and now I can't even remember their names. Funny that :)

Also X-Men on Sega... I remember that so fondly.

I'm surprised 70% of female wardens were actually male players. It must be something like 95% for femshep huh

Huh?  Where did I say in my post that 70% of the female Wardens were male players? Please point that out to me.

I just said that 30% of all Wardens that were played were the lady Warden.  In other words, one in three of players as a whole picked a female character.

I was meaning that not all of the 30% had to be women.  Guys enjoy playing female characters too.  I never put a number as to exactly what number of either gender that was.  Still, it showed that 30% of the player based enjoyed female Warden PCs.  So there's a market there.

You still haven't told me why, if they have obviously already done a big trailer were the male Inquisitor was visible for all to see, it's so unimaginable for the female Inquisitor to get the same?

If they had taken the route like you showed with the Elder Scrolls trailer and kept it ambiguous, then I wouldn't have had any issues with it.  However, BioWare has not kept it gender neutral.  They've already shown the male Inquisitor in very public, official trailers.  We could clearly see him on-screen and we had more to go by on that video than just a voice-over and a quick glimpse in order to tell it was him.

We're asking for the same treatment.

I was never in that debate. But my opinion was always "it doesn't really matter who's in a trailer when our characters will be wildly different" by all means have all the trailers only feature black female dwarves.

Your exact quote was

"30% of their players/people that play lady Wardens were female"

If that was what you meant then naturally the other 70% were male.

I've always thought of transformers as genderless even though they probably aren't supposed to be. I mean why do freaking robots need ******. That's weird

Common misconception they are a technological sapiant nonorganic lifeform Genders are realy a evolutionary throwback. this is just a fantheory mind.

genders were introduced inthe 80s whit Elita1 but never explained.

seing as they are showen to be factory produced.

any hoo about the Inquisitor Chick..

Actually, wasn't Psylocke the only girl? At least at first. And I remember she sucked too, and it was a reeeally hard game, so I didn't actually pick her often. Nightcrawler was the baus

What I meant, and apparently didn't convey well, is that 30% of all Wardens picked were the female gender.  That both men and women enjoy playing the female character.  Not that the other 70% are male.  I know of women that also played and enjoyed male Shepard as well.  I apologize for the miscommunication there.

I was never in that debate. But my opinion was always "it doesn't really matter who's in a trailer when our characters will be wildly different" by all means have all the trailers only feature black female dwarves.

Regarding the bolded, please don't jump to that.  I only said I wanted equal representation.  Not for anyone to have more than the other.  Equal, between male and female characters.  I think it would be just pointless to exclude the male PC from advertising.

I'm not arguing with you about the trailer.   Ambiguous trailers can work very well and they do for some games.

However, since BioWare has not done that to my knowledge, and since they have done one for a guy in the course of the big marketing push for this game, I'd like to see one for a woman as well.

The advertising matters to me, and it matters to a lot of other people as well, at least judging for the 8 months the thread has been around.

Edited out a sentence that I couldn't get worded right.

It's actually pretty rare though, for a game to have a customisable character without being able to create a female character. Can you think of any? I can't think of any. I can think of games where you can't customise but can still pick your gender though.

Alpha Protocol, South Park, Brink (Brink actually released a statement saying they were not doing female characters because they wanted to focus on more for the male character), Deus Ex, Saints Row 1.

So they are out there.

As a thought experiment, has there been games that only have women that have customization?

Okay, cool.  I can respect that for sure.   I'm not being sarcastic myself, promise :)

But I do have to say, no one is asking you to care about this.

I do care and so do several others.  Which is why this thread exists and has existed since early March.  It's the point of it, after all.  Folks including myself would like to see more of the lady Inquisitor in advertising.  I'm not knocking on what we've been given, but I feel I have a right as a consumer to ask for a little more than what we've gotten so far.   So I'm going to continue to ask and request for a female PC starring and being clearly shown in a trailer just like the male Inquisitor was because it matters to me.

If it doesn't matter to you very much, and if you don't care what the advertising looks like, then may I ask why you're posting in the thread?

I am out of Likes again, but all of Natashina's posts on this page.  +1    Please, BioWare make a trailer that shows the female player character to the depth and degree that you have shown us the male one.

Allan had a great question - I've wracked my brain but can't think of any games I know of that allow for Only female customization. (But, then again, I don't play very many games as I've found only a few that I can play as female And that has mechanics, story, etc that I can relate to and enjoy.)

Grr, out of likes.

Why not both?   :D

I'm in full support of having a non-white lady to show off the PC.  Not only is it a nice change of pace, but this is a new engine.  In previous DA games, the old engine didn't do a good job of showing off any darker skin tone other than "tanned white person."  This would be the perfect time to show off the new engine and a lovely non-white female PC all at once.

Besides, like I mentioned in an earlier post, minorities tend to have some of the worst representation.  If they are represented in AAA game advertising at all.  Minority women are even more rare.  It would be nice to see one that was shown as the hero of a big RPG franchise like this.

Yeah, you can only see more females and minorities in small budget titles. It's only in AAA games that tends to be stagnant with their representation. While it was nice to have playable female avatars in COD, it's only a small step in the right direction.

Also, Smiles, I had mentioned earlier that for the male Inquisitor, I was sick of seeing white men.  For the reasons I mentioned in regards to the female Inquisitor, I'd like to see that for the male.  Someone not white for the guys as well would be very welcomed by me.

A black or Latino male PC in a video game trailer that isn't a thug or otherwise has a history of criminal violence would be not only be great to see, but I think it's far past time that BioWare did it for a trailer for one of their games.   :)

You would think that a company that's inclusive like Bioware would include a female or minority in their trailers.

Well the lady Inquisitor did get an official trailer recently.  It was mostly a voice-over done by Alix, with a very quick shot of the female Inquisitor at the end. But it was there, which is a good start.

I'd just like to see one more along the lines of the one the male Inquisitor got, and I would love a non-white lady instead of the white lady Inquisitor that's been shown in the screenshots lately.  Don't get me wrong, she's lovely.  That being said, this is an RPG, and I'd would enjoy seeing someone that isn't a white lady in advertising to show off the female Inquisitor.

Because this thread has been off topic for 300+ pages

It has?  Really?  I read this thread daily and shoot, that's news to me.

We've been talking about what we'd like to see from a female Inquisitor for the advertising.  We've talked repeatedly about how advertising can and has made a lot of difference for some people when it comes to game purchases.  We've been talking about pictures for various looks for a female Inquisitor in advertising.  What class we'd like to see.  We've been talking about how much this means to us.  Allan himself has stated that we aren't off topic, and that was less than 12 hours ago when he said this.

I edited the OP to say the following:

MODEDIT: Just an addendum to this post, the conversation has evolved a lot form this point and in large part discusses female protagonists in games in a variety of topics.  If you are just now seeing this thread, it may be most worthwhile to see where the discussion is currently at at the end of the thread.

Thank you.

If you feel it's off-topic, and has been since about May (which was about 300 pages ago,) then report it as such and don't waste your time with what you feel like is a pointless thread.

I think ads with female main character must give a better sales. Even if I prefer to be male character, anyway it was very nice to see ads with female shepard or hawke. Actually in DA2 it was much more comfortable for me to play like female Hawke.

About all other ideas here like more trailers with black male/female and etc... It is exagerrated. You cannot have all options for everyone on the earth. If devs films trailers with every race it will be too much trailers and too few games. I think it is theirs decision, as look of characters in many games.
