Thanks Tayah.  I bought my first new bed in 15 years, and it's showing up this weekend.  I think getting some better sleep than I have been over the last couple of years will help.  I've just putting it off because of the price (seriously, beds are expensive as hell.  We saw a queen-sized bed that just had the mattress, box springs and a headboard for $6000.  A bit rich for me.)   Also, watching my NFL home team beat the ever-living snot our biggest rivals on Sunday was great too.

To try to get this a bit back on topic, do you guys think we'll get another trailer for the female Inquisitor?  Or do you think the two male ones and the one for the ladies is gonna be it?  Just curious to see what everyone thinks at this point.  Also, is that poster that Su Lu Pi put up this weekend one of the official ones?  If so, that's perfect.  If not, then it I hope the marketing team sees the value in it.   :)

As long as it isn't another white guy, I'll take it at this point.  I know it's unlikely, but I really want them to show off the engine for darker skin tones for the PC.  I would obviously prefer a lady, but a non-white man I would also like to see.

I know a lot of the suggestions in this thread might not happen for this game.  Still, I think a lot of these ideas will have merit down the road for future installments.   There has been some great points made over the months, and it seems like BioWare's developers at least are listening.  I think the ad execs will come around in time, as the climate in the industry progresses.

And I feel we'll see more equal advertising for women over the next few years.  While BioWare is one of the most receptive game companies, they certainly aren't the only ones re-examining the old "tried and true" method of advertising.   I think the next 2-3 years could provide some positive changes.

For example (speaking of shooters,) just seeing a quick glimpse of a female solider instead of the quick glimpse a guy would be welcome.  Those trailers don't showcase the PC much, or if they do it's helmeted.  The latter I think works better for some game titles.   If they want to/don't have a female PC but they do in the mutliplayer, make sure that's clear in the adverting.

My favorite idea is a female assassin in AC as the main character in a major console release (in other words, not just on a handheld that many in the industry consider dead.)  Jennifer Hale would gladly do the voice, or so she said at Denver Comic Con this year.  I haven't been much into the AC games since the second one, but an AC voiced by Ms. Hale?  Oh that I would at least buy and try out.   :D

From Kotaku's recent article following the embargo's end:

When your character smiles, it's the same bizarre horror-mask that Commander Shepard so often wore in Mass Effect. When characters cross their arms, their hands clip through their chests. My lady protagonist had male animations in cutscenes, so she'd swagger into each scene carrying invisible suitcases, legs splayed like she was riding an imaginary horse. It's all pretty awkward. The strong writing and voice acting make up for that stiffness, and after a while I stopped noticing. But given how incredible video game character-animation has gotten over the last several years, Inquisition's awkwardness sticks out.

Kinda disappointed, but meh, I expected it.

I read about that in the "Let us choose our walk" thread.  Yeah, I noticed that too.  It's one of the very few trailers I've seen, and I muted the sound.  I fast fowarded it until I saw the walk.  Then promptly flinched, slightly.  I've heard that it's the most noticeable on the lady elf than any other.  I keep hoping that they put a more masculine walk for my short and stocky lady dwarf.  I really would love this, because if the walk looks bad on the taller races, I think I'm in deep crap in that regard.  I'm trying not to stress too much about that part though.

Meh about sums it up.  I'll guess I have to ignore it by killing a lot of demons and keeping my character busy.  I might just control a different party member and let them lead so I don't have to look at it as much if it annoys me too much.  While I'm sure a ton of tweaking to the animation has been done in the game since last year, I'm betting this walk was pretty much set in place long before conversations like these started to become a more regular thing.

Done bun can't be undone, so the expression goes.   In other words, there isn't much we can do about it now other than try to illustrate why that isn't a good idea right up there with making a female character into a beauty contest.   I'm glad BW learned from that, it seems, but just reading about that disaster is cringe worthy.   <_<

Also, here's to hoping that the lady Inquisitor is at least dignified in the official guides.   I know it's too much to hope for as many pics of the lady Inquisitor as the male Inquisitor, but some more action shots would be cool.  If they do underwear shots, it had better be for both genders or not at all.  Truthfully, I like the latter category because I thought it a moronic and pandering thing to put into a game guide.  I seriously wonder how many players truly gave a flip about the underwear to the point where that was the poor lady Hawke's biggest pic in that damned thing.

I'm not sure you read it right. As stupid as the runway walk is, the quote seems to suggest that, when a cutscene plays it switches to an overly masculine animation. Essentially, we'll get the worst of both worlds.

Oh bioware

I highly disagree especially with the choices, but it's my opinion though.

In what way?

Yep, in a nutshell.  I'm not going to go off on that here, since that has it's own thread, but I had to sigh.  I'm hoping this doesn't happen again in DA games after this installment.

To be fair, Nat, BW has never been particularly good when it comes to animations. All their games since the original ME have awkward animations (to varying degrees).

I just hope this issue isn't so prominent in Inquisition. I can live with my lady Inquisitor moving like a dude in a few cutscenes, but I will be very disappointed if things go beyond that.

And here I was ready to make a broken record of myself yet again with wanting to see a dark skin tone lady dwarf then I see the walk get brought up that pointless walk. *sigh* I still want to know why they went through all the work to give males and females a different walk cycle yet as soon as the cinematic scenes  hit the female PCs get slapped with the male PCs animations. Kind of makes all the work come off as a little pointless and to me at least give the impression the female animations are there to be 'admired' and not much else. Sorry for the slightly OT rant there that still just really bothers me.

True, but that excuse is starting to run thin.  I don't want to to be too harsh here, but time and technology have moved on.  I would have hoped they would have improved by now.  That's why I'm here in the Feedback section, so I can offer input for future games.  A choice of animation and/or a more gender neutral one I think would go over well with the players.  Perhaps now that they've got the engine optimized for RPGS (which is part of what took the game so long; this is the first RPG on the engine and they had to optimize it as well as make the game itself,) they might be able to experiment more with the animation, or give us a choice down the road.

From what I've been able to gather, we'll have the male animation in all of the cutscenes, not just one or two.  It's really the lack of consistency that bothers me.  If this exaggerating swaying-walk is going to be absent in the cutscenes where I'll see my characters the clearest, then I guess I don't see the point of the differences at all.

As always, I second this.   :D

I'm totally with you on the walk it does seem odd to me as well. And despite my preference for qunari I'm with you and Nat, a dark skin tone lady dwarven archer would be fantastic.  B)

Archer because sniping is fun and dwarves can't be mages so it's an easy choice for me.

At this point I have no idea though if there is another trailer I'm unfortunately thinking it will be the same generic white guy which makes me sad but is better than getting my hopes up... I'd love to be wrong though  :D  (And I hate being wrong usually).

No idea but that was my first question too especially in the third picture where my first thought was "is that Josephine?". I still can't say for sure, the carrying weapons makes me think inquisitor but the hair, face and outfit especially in the third makes me think Josephine... I'm now totally confused.

And still really happy because regardless those pics look fantastic!  :D

The guy who wrote that Kotaku article we discussed above, that's his character.

I had to look super closely to make sure I wasn't seeing Josie.

Okay.  Well, in that case, I must say she looks great.  I love the hair, and that was a nice way of showing off the dialogue wheel.  And the armor is fantastic!  I'm not typically a huge fan of customizing armor and weapons aside from ENCHANTMENT!, but that looks way too nice to pass up.

Come to think of it, too bad BioWare can't use her for a female Inquisitor trailer.  She's human, but she doesn't look like the White Brunette Gal.  Oh well, it's a nice change of pace and good to see from a major site like that.

That is the character of the person that has completed DAI. It took them about 85 hours to complete.

Here's the review if interested.

I gotta say some of the reviewers made some really awesome looking Inquisitors. I only glanced at them on my way to the summary of each review but it really speaks to how flexible the Character Creator is.

At this point I would be surprised.

Honestly between the jello-on-springs walk, switching to obviously male animations in cutscenes again and the only-one-female-trailer-but-we'll-have-a-bunch-of-livestreams-to-show-we-listen, I'm feeling pretty depressed over the whole thing.

I'm glad the reviewers are taking the time to show off the PCs.  It does the Inquisitor a lot more justice than the CC screenshots we got a month before the game went gold.  If the marketing team can't/won't take the risk to show off the female PC more, then I'm happy that at least the devs as well as the reviewers are doing so.  It's not quite as good as an equal chunk of the ad revenue, but it shows that the DA team and the players enjoy seeing the lady Inquisitor and make sure everyone knows it too.   :)

I don't blame you there, but I keep hoping.  This isn't in control of the devs, after all.  It's all on the EA and BioWare marketing teams (yes, they are separate.)  <hugs>  I'm with you as well, but I'm trying not to let it get to me.  I spent last week in a crappy mood, so I'm going to avoid doing so this week.   ;)

While I'm disappointed that we didn't get a proper trailer, I'm pleased that there was some progress.

Due to the live streams, I got to see way more of Lady Inquisitor than I did Lady Hawke or even femshep before launch.

Could it be better? HELL YEAH! but there has been enough improvement that I can see us getting more trailers with the female character for the next BioWare game.
