Also, watching my NFL home team beat the ever-living snot our biggest rivals on Sunday was great too.

To try to get this a bit back on topic, do you guys think we'll get another trailer for the female Inquisitor?

My team did terrible last night

A new traier featuring the femquistor? No. I don't see another trailer being released at all being this close to release date. I like to be wrong

They might release a commercial spot, who knows. The other trailers so far don't seem like TV commercial material (or short enough).

I don't blame you there, but I keep hoping.  This isn't in control of the devs, after all.  It's all on the EA and BioWare marketing teams (yes, they are separate.)  <hugs>  I'm with you as well, but I'm trying not to let it get to me.  I spent last week in a crappy mood, so I'm going to avoid doing so this week.   ;)

I don't see what difference it makes. At the end of the day what is important is the product released and the material surrounding it, this site is our access to people responsible for these things both at BioWare and EA.

Pretty depressed was far too strong a phrase. I am... disappointed.

but there has been enough improvement that I can see us getting more trailers with the female character for the next BioWare game.

Has there? Inquisition was released after they were supposed to be clued into this, and yet here were are again. After the ME trilogy, DA2 and DA:O's cinematic trailers it is still not time to have a more gender balanced trailer spread, even with the focus on ambiguous protagonist. We've gained a helmet for the man on the box.

I see the difference because the causal gamer is a lot more likely to read reviews of the game before it comes out.  The devs have been trying as much as they could and they did show her off at E3.  A lot of causal gamers check out E3 footage, to see what games are on the horizon.  By sites like Kotaku featuring the female Inquisitor so prominently in their articles, it does help get the word out.  I won't pretend that it's stupendous, but it's more than the marketing team is willing to do.

I agree with you 100%.  It's incredibly irksome and rather insulting.  Still, I just don't want to spend the coming weeks down.   It just shows as an industry how far video games really have to go, sadly.   I wish I could cheer you up, but I won't try to talk down your frustrations either.   :(

Well we went from, even people who played the game didn't know there was a female character (ME1) to a couple of advertisements with a female character (ME3) to game play videos and reviewer screenshots with a female character (DA:I)

Even if we just take the DA series, there was little to no info on the female Warden or Hawke but for DA:I we've had game play videos, review screen shots, gender neutral box art and the first announced VA be for lady Inquisitor.

While I agree that for casual players it would be great to have some trailers, if they watched E3 then they saw a female Inquisitor and if they read some of the reviews then they'll see a female Inquisitor, which is more than we can say for the female Warden and Lady Hawke.

I'd say that there has been an overall improvement with the effort that BioWare themselves have gone to in letting people know that Lady Inquisitor exists, even if that improvement has yet to be matched by EA's Marketing Team.

I don't think we even have an iconic "default male" or "default female" Inquisitor, which is why the trailer chap is always with his helmet on, so I put the possibility of one your alternative trailers at 0%. On the flip side this makes him faceless and mostly androgynous and raceless, even though it doesn't advertise the fact you can play a female.

They could have a bit in a trailer which shows the character creator being quickly scrolled through with the tag "Create your leader" or something however.

Yes it's a tattoo. It's meant to look like it is carved into my back so if it looks like an injury then the affect works  :P

Although this was taken just after it was done, so there is probably some actual blood in the red ink

I wouldn't lament DAO's marketing too much.

It was kind of lame either way. It's not like I'm proud to be a male because of it. :P

The game itself is very female friendly though. So much so that after all is said and done, I (a male) prefer my female Warden stories above all.

In what way?

I don't want to spoil too much, but I found the game hypocritical and insulting.

This is pretty awesome.  The main site for Dragon Age got changed this morning, and it now has this:

2014_11_11_08_08_50_Dragon_Age_Inquisiti

The lady Inquisitor, with the reviews from last night.   You know, I know this isn't a trailer, or a formal ad, and that's still something I'd like to see if possible.  However, having this on the main page makes me smile.  There shouldn't be any doubt about gender choice to the uninformed/new player.  That's a helluva good step in the right direction.

To the devs: I know you guys can't control the marketing arm, and how they present the trailers.  Yet, I know you guys have some control over things like the main site and your FB page.  It means a lot to see this, especially after the treatment of femShep and lady Hawke.  Thank you very much for showing the female fans (and male fans of the female Inquisitor) that you were listening.  I'm going to keep posting and striving for equality in future games, but the effort was noticed at least by me.  I hope you guys finally got some sleep last night.  :)

I ran out of likes.

I whole heartily agree, it's nice to see BioWare striving for equality in the areas that have control over.  :D

It means a huge amount to me personally to see the Lady Inquisitor in prominent places like the main site.

Seeing that several of the male reviewers played as a female character....which helps boost Inquisitrix more than them just saying gender is an option in the review, since they often have pictures and start off talking about her.

Not that they did that as some kind of marketing thing, but its a cool effect nonetheless, especially since most big reviewers are male and could of course easily individually be understood if they had choosen to play male, but if they all had, would have reinforced that idea of the male PC's primacy :)

Yeah thanks to, US the good people of the BSN and not that fe..... err I much rather bring that up! So yes one more step towards equality. Now let's see that black person in future Dragon Age games (and games in general.) I feel that the black race needs to be represented more positively in the future.

I saw the Varric trailer today... it was absolutely amazin'!!

Still had the male quizzie at the end though, meh.

I'm the eternal optimist and am hoping for one last commercial trailer out of them. This time showing our female Inquisitor in all her glorious detail like we've seen out of the male one.

I think it probably speaks to the way they approached gender in this game.  Not making the male the default, not giving the male an "iconic" look.  Obviously we can't know what was going through the minds of those reviewers when they went through the character creator, but I am willing to bet that eliminating those unconscious biases from the game had something to do with it.

I feel the same way.  It's subtle, and not quite what we're hoping for, but I think it's pretty effective.  :wizard:

I agree. I also wonder if current events (not to go into them but y'all know what I mean) made them think for a second before clicking a dude, and in that second some of them went "hey, why not?"

Either way, it is super exciting to see that so far...right off the bat, no one is really making me feel like there is anything resembling a default like the trailers did...so much variety in gender, race, etc..

and you're right, Bioware does deserve some of the credit for that. So thank you guys. :D

I hope they didn't do it because of current events.

I think it's cool and all, but hope that's not the reason. I'd hope people simply just have preferences or find a fun factor in it. Politics be damned.
