I said it might have made them hesitate for a second, and then possibly consider it because it would be fun....not that it would be a political choice. :)

People don't always stop to think about things until they are pointed out for them, but then when they do, they think about them from their own perspective. So for someone to whom playing male is never a question, even if they are asked explicitly, thinking about GG stuff isn't going to change their mind---and that's awesome, it's not a bad thing at all. But if someone plays male because they always play male and they see a female option and they consider it a second longer because the visibility of women in games is higher right now, and then they decide to do it because it could be cool, that's great.

I wasn't trying to imply it was a huge factor nor that anyone choose Inquisitrix to make a statement, just that the minds of many games writers right now are possibly slightly influenced by what's happening in the larger games conversation. :)

We don't about that in these parts.

Hmm.. not sure what you mean.

The poster above wondered if the reviewers simply picked female characters because of "current events".

I'm just hoping they didn't. That they did it because they want to. That they thought it would be fun. Because that's what games are about: fun. God forbid people start rolling RPG builds, out of some duty to politics or real world concerns.

Erm, that isn't remotely what I said at all. If that was posted before you saw my follow up post, I hope it clarified what I meant.

Just to be clear, I have nothing against you, no matter what you meant.

I'm only looking at the reviewers in my statement. Only using your comment as a starting off point.

I'm not trying to say anything complicated. I just mean that I hope they built a female character simply because they wanted to. And no other ulterior reason than that (be it political or marketing or whatever).

I think the meaning was conveyed here.  Let's try to drop that subject, please.  The last time it came up in here, it almost ended very badly.   I personally give BioWare a lot more credit than that, so please let's not try to read politics into things.  It's not worth debating about at this point.

Really, my main concern goes beyond that. I like reviewers to simply come from a sincere point of view. To have no motivation other than their personal experience with a game. I don't want them to say or do things because it'll impress some group (or some interested party, like the company who made the game).

Sorry, yes. I was trying to keep it vague and thought it wouldn't be derailing since I wasn't trying to make any judgment on GG itself, but just say that the fact it happened has magnified the conversation surrounding women in videogames. Definitely don't want anything bad to happen to this thread! If anyone wants to talk about it in PMs, I'm around. :)

It's always hard to tell whether or not a reviewer is being bias are not, to be honest.  I do know that the amount of reviewers that did pick female says a lot to me.  Perhaps there is a few that's trying to be PC or whatever, but frankly I think they are showing off a female character simply because they wanted to.  That and they enjoyed playing as a lady.

One of my biggest joys for the game right now is the inclusion of the female Inquisitor the main site.  I don't think it has to do with anything involving controversial topics.  I know the devs have been reading the thread, so I think this is their way of saying, "We heard you and your point is valid.  So here you go."   :)

Ah, just noticed that background on the main site. Cool beans.

I think she the female warrior looks great, but if I ever play one, it'll be a rogue.

I agree... but I'm starting a male warrior. I already like what they did with both classes in DA2.. but they look even more improved now.

Did you see the review with the female dwarf?  Lots of visual spoilers.

It's by VideoGamerTV.

Ftr, I was not talking about anything on Bioware's behalf in terms of the Inquisitrix being on the website....and I don't think anyone was picking anything to be political and...like. lmao. I'm not really sure how my post that essentially said "a lot of people are talking about women in games right now and questioning the idea of maleness as a default concept for games so maybe a few people who professionally analyze games soaked up a bit of that concept and are (on subconscious level or not) internalizing that slightly leading to them choosing female characters so they can fun with them instead of ignoring them" became more than that, but that's what I get for even vaguely bringing up GG, I guess.  Maybe people were reading me as being cynical? I am not being cynical. I am being hopeful that the more we talk about female characters and creators in games, even if the conversations are awful and difficult and mired in complications and controversy......even still, it will cause more and more people to examine those assumptions of games inherently being male.

Erm, sorry for posting again...just wanted to make sure that any devs reading this thread didn't think I was accusing them of anything.

Nope.  I'd made it this long without a lot of spoilers, visually or otherwise.  I've got less than a week to go, so I'm hanging tough.  I appreciate the link though.   :)

I'm sorry if anything I said troubled you enough to say this. Didn't mean to do that.

I was only hoping the reviewers picked what they did for... casual reasons. For fun. Nothing more than that.

I'm pretty sure they did do it for fun.  Besides, even if that wasn't the case, no sense in stressing it.  ;)

No, I'm not troubled!!! Just confused and trying to figure out how to articulate things and also amused at my inability sometimes to articulate what exactly I want to say in a way that is accessible to people who are coming from different perspectives.

...that's a long way of saying I don't get out much, so I appreciate y'all being kind and patient etc. <3

I'm almost kind of upset I decided my first playthrough would be a dude. I usually like to play as my actual gender first, then mainly female.

But, if I played a female I could romance Sera... but if I'm a male I can romance Dorian or Cassandra... argh. Choices! I'm probably gonna end up romancing Josephine in the end, but I still want flirting options with other people!

What's to be upset about? I like playing as males and all of my playthroughs are going be males. I don't hate playing as females, I just prefer to play my gender.

I have enough incentive to play one of each gender. A more neutral good type of hero (will be a male warrior), and then someone more carefree and doesn't want the job. Probably a female rogue.. and my chance to see more of Sera that way.

Unfortunately, I don't care much about many race options. I can't wrap my head around a qunari or dwarf inquisitor, for example. But that's just my own limitation. I hope that now that they have the models for these races built, we'll see more stories in the future more conducive to them. I just don't think this game will be it.

Rogues are the best.

I almost always play a Rogue first, but I have to admit, some of the Mage "armors" are doing a damn fine job of changing my mind...

Do multiple playthroughs and romance whoever.

My femquisitor will romance Josephine and possibly my one and only malequisitor playthrough, I will romance Cassandra
