I think my Eavan (human female rogue) will be for Cullen but I haven't decided who Acantha will go for (female qunari mage). Possibly Sera or Josephine. Maybe Iron Bull.
Could we please see more of the Lady Inquisitor?

What's to be upset about? I like playing as males and all of my playthroughs are going be males. I don't hate playing as females, I just prefer to play my gender.
Because I'm a huge proponent of more female representation in games and I feel like I'm sort of betraying that by playing a male when I'm given an option to not do that? It's a problem I've had for a while. I'll get over it.

Why would it matter? It's your own game in your own home. Just play what you want.

I think it's hugely important/helpful for people who don't always (or even ever) play as female characters be big proponents of having female PCs, to be honest. You're not betraying anyway, imo.

Please, try not to feel bad because you have a preference, Mukora. You've been supportive and encouraging of this thread, which is all I can ask anyone for. I wouldn't judge you for preferring to play your own gender. That's just silly. Besides, it would be hypocritical of me to look down on you for that. I prefer playing my own gender as well. ![]()

This thread is just requesting for more female representation that's all. If you prefer to play as males then play them! The females aren't going to call you sexist for preferring to play as a man. It'll be stupid and counterproductive in what these people want.

I think it probably speaks to the way they approached gender in this game. Not making the male the default, not giving the male an "iconic" look. Obviously we can't know what was going through the minds of those reviewers when they went through the character creator, but I am willing to bet that eliminating those unconscious biases from the game had something to do with it.
I'm going to be interested to see if there is an increase in players creating a female character in DA:I and if that increase can be attributed to not always having male as the default gender in the character creator

But personally I'm not too fussed whether more male players start rolling female characters or not, are you?

Sure, at least a little. If this simple changes significantly increases the number of female main characters played, it will be another data point that people can point at to prove that yeah, we should probably have more female main characters in games. Including them doesn't actually hurt sales, and people, not just women, are more than willing to play as them.

I'm a woman and have planned my first playthrough as a male character. Doesn't mean I don't care for a female option, just that I sometimes enjoy playing as males, too.

Well the numbers for fshep was large 80% of players made a custmizable fshep compared to 42% for mshep but this number is also only representative of members who had xbox gold or ps+ accounts free or no internet players were not counted.
I really hope BW doesn't gimp the numbers this time by excluding free xbox or playstation accounts so we can see not just the numbers of player gender choices for DAI but what gender+class did they pick with all classes shown and compare all their data to what players chose from DAO, DAA, and DA2 and make it easier to find you wouldn't believe how hard I had to dig to get the actual numbers on fshep and ME3 that was beyond the much quoted 18% because there's more data out there then just that.
As for the feeling bad cuz you play as male you shouldn't but player both current, future, and new recruits all need to be made aware you can be a woman its sad when men take to twitter worried they can't be male and BW needs to tweet to them they can be a man just because they don't see him 100% of the time, you need to get the gamers themselves to see women heros as viable and normal and frankly worth playing as but showing her as strong, capable, a risk taker or strategist wouldn't hurt, and making her non sexulized is better studies done with men on playability of woman characters show they aren't opposed to a non sexulized woman lead to play as when a (swedish?) study used BW material and asked them would they play as fshep or if not what could make them change their mind more said they wouldn't mind playing as her of the ones that said no the top recommendation for her improvement was give her more muscle they apparently hated how thin her arms were.

Height traitor. I'll have to remember that. Nice.
Muroka just had mixed feelings is all, and I can see where he's coming from. I talk about supporting a non-white male PC all the time, but I haven't played one yet. I sometimes feel bad about it too, but I'm not letting it bother me. There's always a chance for later, when I roll up a second male character. I figure that there's plenty of time to try new things. ![]()
The classiest thing we can do is to show support here. I'm glad he's willing to be honest with us, and his support for the female Inquisitor (as well as in some of the LGBT threads) is the part to focus on. He isn't imposing his feelings on anyone else, so there's no need to come down on him so harshly. These threads can be a place to learn and express ourselves in many ways. Sometimes, just venting uncomfortable feelings is good for ya.
<hugs> I can understand the confusion, but Muroka didn't mean any harm here.
For the record, playing a dwarf would make you a champion of the height challenged, rather than a traitor to tall people. Not to mention that it would help telemetry and show BioWare that dwarves are a beloved race in their games as well. Let's get those dwarven player numbers up! ![]()

Sorry but It's a bit weird question what could make them change their mind :\ like something will change if more people would play fshep? There are hidden benefits for someone if more players chose to play female hero? I was thinking gender option in character creation center is already given enough freedom to player to choose whom he wants to play 0_o

Yeah this will be interesting to see and I wondered if that randomness might have had something to do with reviewers using female characters as in finding the gender female when they began the CC they just went with it to see where it lead? And by the current events comment I went straight to "Assassin's Creed can't make women because they're too hard" excuse rather than anything else... my bro is excited about getting Assassin's Creed tomorrow so maybe that's why. ![]()

Yea it's personally not my thing to encourage male players to try female characters or anything. But could there be a hidden benefit if female characters end up being more popular across both genders? I dunno maybe. I might change my stance if it's what it takes to not have things like the god awful nutcracker ball costume.

I've always felt just to play what you like, and not worry about anyone else. If you want to play a lady character, by all means go for it. If a guy is what you want to play, that's great too. As long as we're having fun, that's all that matters really. I'm asking for better representation by the BW marketing team, but I wouldn't ask anyone to play a female PC if they didn't feel like it. ![]()

Yeah exactly. I don't like playing a male PC so I simply don't and if others feel that way about playing a female PC fair enough. What I care about is having the option to choose which gender you play and knowing that a game you're interested in has that choice clearly stated so you find it easier. ![]()
I think thehomeworld's point was that if the data shows a balance of people playing both male and female characters that there is more incentive for other game devs to consider adding a gender choice to more games rather than defaulting to male because "female doesn't sell".

Some characters are male and some are female 6 of each I think spread fairly evenly across classes and specialisations. ![]()

Normalising it helps. Up until fairly recently I wasn't completely okay with my tendency to play female characters.
