I'm in complete agreement with you.  Her design should be based on the concept of who she could be, not on who the fans find most attractive.  And she should be given actual, honest-to-goodness marketing.  Images posted relatively early on.  If there is a trailer it should not be out only shortly before release, and it should preferably not be online-only.  Or if it is online-only, they should heavily promote it, for instance by putting it into their online advertisements--you know the kind.  The ones that track you, or pop up on gaming sites.  Female Inquisitor would be sooo much more welcome than the creepy Wartune ads that always seem to pop up.

I didn't read it that way.  It was definitely a mistake in the marketing department.  The one good thing that came out of the femShep contest to me was that we saw how connected to their Shep's players were.  To hear, "That is not what Shepherd looks like!" was beautiful.  It couldn't help but turn into a beauty contest, when one doesn't see there version the next best is the pretty one.  It was cool Bioware tried to include fans, in that case it didn't work.

What would make THE female inquisitor?  I honestly can't see just one.  We haven't even really seen the male one underneath all that helmet.  I would like to see a nonhuman female inquisitor.  I'm not sure how that would be read if it were marketing's face.

The problem with fem Shepard is they didn't bother giving her a face til ME3... If they had had that Shepard in ads from ME1, people would have accepted her just like they did dude Shep and done without the whole beauty discussion as well. I think, anyway.

They all looked the same, it was only a choice of hairstyles and colour, and occasionally, skin tone. What's more the 3d model didn't end up looking like any of the art.

Well, they sort of did in that the default femshep in 1 and 2 was short red-hair. I always assumed that's why the contest went as it did; some thought it was an anti-blonde statement when they did a second round when really I think a lot of people just wanted short red-hair to be the "default" femshep.

She always had brown hair by default in my games... am I missing something?

Regardless, I like the idea of the developers coming up with the default, and sticking with it, rather than three games later deciding that they do need a default female face after all, and then asking the fans to choose via beauty pageant.

I can almost guarantee we'll see a default male face before it's over.  Would like to see what the default female looks like, too.

Instead of getting all defensive you have to look at whats been accomplished already, and I loved the new cover art for the new Dragon age game I could not tell if the pc was male or female it was like a shadow of what the pc could be

I don't think "defensive" is a good word - we're just expressing what we'd like to see.

I do agree however that (especially after today) the concept art has been really impressive in this sense!!

Now the next step - a lady Quizzy trailer! :)

It probably wasn't the author's intention but I thought it had a more feminine looking figure than masculine.

Are you referring to a specific recently written post? Or did you not notice that this whole thread predates the cover art release.

It's kind of funny because I know we'll get 'default' inquisitors especially for the marketing and really we already have the 'default human male inquisitor' in trailers but in a game that offers so much customisation I kind of think default is a bad term/idea because you are already conditioning people to the idea that that is the main character or canon. In a game that has four different races as well as male and female choices it would be nice to see more focus on the variety of ways you can play as those vastly different races and the impact that has on the game world instead of having 'defaults' all the time.

Obviously I'm not in marketing or anything and I'm not sure how you'd go about it, start with a CC based trailer and then do gameplay trailers and so on that feature different race and gender based inquisitors after that... or something.

I'm still hoping we'll get some kind of CC trailer or demo though as well as lady inquisitor. ;)

I think a CC based trailer would be lovely!

Anyway it's not like the current trailers we've seen have really focused much on male Quizzy anyway. Like... except for a scene where he's gazing up at the veil tear... Most of the trailer footage has been showcasing the different environments with the Quizzy and companions as tiny humanoid figures running around.

Point is they could have easily cut those face close up shots entirely to maintain this aura of mystery surrounding WHO/WHAT the Inquisitor is. They didn't have to resort to default white dude man at all. Not sure why they did.

I know they haven't shown him a lot, we've almost heard him more than we've seen him actually but I definitely like the idea of a mysterious inquisitor. That would have been an interesting approach to take too.  ;)

That new concept art seems like the perfect set up for new trailers. Do 1 with male Inquisitor and one with female Inquisitor; one does a voice over about 'change, chaos' rebirth' and the other 'tradition, order, power'. It'd be a fun way to further juxtapose those two art pieces, and show off a variety of choices for players. (and two trailers to oogle at!!!) Probably wishful thinking but I really wanna hear Lady Inquisitor haha

I actually wouldn't mind seeing two exact same trailers, except one would be with the male and the other with the female. I guess that's what they did with ME3 (and some people didn't like it?), but I think it'd be yet another way where they could showcase that you've got a choice regarding gender and race.

I have no problem with that either haha...I just want more footage to gawk over. I'm greedy and impatient.

My Warden female or Hawke Female always had white or silver hair not grey just like the look.

I would love to see more of the Female Inquisitor why does the Hero always have to be Male.

In SW KoToR Revan was male in SW KoToR 2 the Exile was a female so it would be nice to see a change of pace for Dragon Age to show off the Female Inquisitor as a Human, Dwarf or Elf in a trailer.

Or qunari fem inquisitor? Can't forget qunari fem inquisitor. :P But I agree more female inquisitor would be good... I didn't realise the Exile was female in trailers though I didn't really watch many trailers back then either. Although SW KOTOR 2 was by a different company, Obsidian if I recall rightly. No reason not to follow a good example though.  ;)

My female Wardens and Hawkes tend to have dark hair except when I can add other colours through mods then I like really mixing it up with bright greens, reds and blues... so much fun.  :D

Almost all of mine tend to have black (or dark brown) hair and green/blue/purple eyes.

Particularly the guys. Hmmm perchance I have a type.... :P

DA has no specific canon player character. Male Revan and female Exile (Meetra Surik) were determined after the fact to be the canon genders.

I'd like to see more customization stuff in general, but I suspect it's just not ready for prime time yet.

Mine are all female (I don't play males) and now that I think about it they nearly always have green or grey eyes... I think I may also have a type...  :P

Now I really want to see some CC footage and get an idea of the range of hair and eye colours... now I'm wondering what the range will be for qunari characters since they all seem to have light/white hair to date. Oh the decisions this is going to lead to... :D

So I guess a mix of brown and red?

Either way, based on the choices

I think the red one is probably closest.

But anyway, derail over, more female Inquisitor pics!

I'm starting to get hopeful!!  :D

Anyone remember what the marketing was like for DAO and DA2? Did they pretty early on start having female concept art? Or not really? Has Inquisition marketing been different in any way thus far?

I'm curious about the answer to this, too.  As far as I know, DA2 did not show Lady Hawke at all.  Somebody said that DAO had posters with the different races on them?  Were those all male?

It's kind of funny because I know we'll get 'default' inquisitors especially for the marketing and really we already have the 'default human male inquisitor' in trailers but in a game that offers so much customisation I kind of think default is a bad term/idea because you are already conditioning people to the idea that that is the main character or canon. I actually think that having a default appearance is really smart, from a marketing perspective.  It puts a "face" on the game.  But I'm thinking they might do something a little more like that for Inquisition, since so far, even the trailers featuring the human male Inquisitor have been rather vague on his appearance.  He's always been shown under the helmet, and his face does not seem very noteworthy--unlike Hawke, who had a very distinct default look as both male and female.  I wonder if they're going to continue to let the helmet represent the Inquisitor, and have the person underneath the helmet change more as the marketing gears up.

The posters for DAO had an even split - 3 males and 3 females. You can see them in the spoiler below (I put them in a spoiler tag because they're quite big):
Spoiler

I wasn't around for DAO or DA2's marketing, but I really like those posters. They demonstrated each race, both genders and gave little hints as to the origins for each.

I know that DA2 did use a female Hawke in advertising, but I think it was only an image:
