If i recall right women in qunari society take care of physical labour jobs which can be just as taxing as swinging a sword -- check out the lumberjacks, e.g.

Hence why they are still the most muscular of any woman of any race.

Although I appreciate how costly this is for Bioware so it's unrealistic, I always saw the qunari being like the Battletech clans - they'd have totally different and distinct bodytypes for their people based on their pre-assigned birth roles. So perhaps the Antam men would look like Jacked McSteoirds, whereas other roles would look quite different, since other traits would be selected for generally.

Exactly.

I have my doubts. All the male qunari have facial deformations which prevents their hair from flowing forward. Most of the female qunari have hair capable of covering their deformations which makes them look human.

Not all the male Qunari. Sten didn't. The other hornless Qunari didn't.

A slightly more pronounced normal map on the abs hardly makes them muscular, and they're miles behind the males in this regard, just like all other species.

I made edit meantime but the thread jumped to new page, so i'll put it here: there's no real reason that'd prevent BioWare from making them bulky, if only to have some actual visual variety from other species, just like they did with the males. It may well be the species' specific trait, and could be left at that.

I would rather see male character models veer less toward Jacked McSteroids than female characters veer more. I'd like to see a qunari guy who is just Yao Ming tall.

They're already tall humans with horns. They're just body-builder like bulky humans with horns. I'd like for less bulk.

True. But all the females we have seen have had horns and convenient hair. I just want female qunari to look as alien as the males so I have a reason to play a female. There are also facial restrictions in most CCs with racial selection, so I would hope qunari females have slightly heavier brows than human females and those deformations around their horns (if they have horns).

You're not taking in the whole picture. Yes, qunari women do not take on the same roles as the men, but if their jobs can require just as much physical labor as the men's jobs, they therefor should have similar bodytypes (barring different jobs requiring uses of different muscles), not "big mclargehuge" and "sexy horned woman".

Honestly, I don't really care how they look compared to other races in this instance. I'm talking specifically about the differences between two qunari of different genders, not a qunari to an elf or a human or a dwarf.

Seeing how the male qunari look, I think this is a good counterbalance to them.

Yes I am. Not all strength comes from bulky muscles. There are people who appear thin as a rail who can outpower a bodybuilder. So the "More physical labor = bigger muscles" is a flimsy argument. In some people, yes. In others, no.

And again, centuries of males being bred solely for combat roles will make them disproportional. Things like thicker skin and thicker muscles so if hurt won't be as effected, bigger blood vessels to oxygenate the muscles, etc. For all we know, centuries ago the men looked a lot closer to the women in terms of size and musculature.

Not really. While strength isn't directly proportional to mass (nervous system optimization can give you a little edge), mass still influences it greatly.

Having endurance and the actual ability to fight, that's another thing. But raw strength depends on muscle mass and bone size/density the most.

I think... my ideal bodytype for qunari women would probably be one in the same range that the ones olympic weightlifters have.

I'd post a picture, but I'm having trouble finding one where they aren't making really silly faces when they lift. I keep laughing. >>

It would make sense for qunari rogues and mages to be less buff than warriors. Alas, the possibility to choose from different body types per race has already been dismissed.

:o Oh ... my... god. I just googled "shirtless male soldier" to prove a point and literally every picture was a still from a porno. Holy hell.

ANYWAY... I don't think there's any point trying to explain the male versus female Qunari design choices. My bet is that it all boils down to the artists' imaginations (or lack thereof) as opposed to anything else.

I think we can all agree that real life male soldiers do NOT have the physique of a body builder. Therefore I don't think the "oh well male Qunari are bred for combat" reasoning is valid.

Sure it is. We don't have a breeding program designed to build people for roles like the Qunari do, and their genetics may work differently than ours.

My problem with the breeding theory is that they can control for predisposition to certain jobs (i.e. soldiers are bred with scientists to produce smarter soldiers), but they can't control for gender.  You are going to have female descendents of soldiers.  Some of them are going to be taller and stronger like their dads.

I know physical strength doesn't come from bulkier muscles.  If you look at a body builder versus a weight lifter, the weight lifter looks less impressive, but has the core strength that enables them to lift enormous amounts of stuff.  But that's just the point--this is 100% an aesthetic choice.  Aesthetically, if the male qunari are naturally dispositioned towards enormous ripply muscles, then the females should be too.  Because that is their species, and that is what we have always been led to believe qunari look like.

I have a great example of this...  but it's from WWE wrestling stuff so some will laugh but so be it:

vs this dude:

That second guy has a born with type of power that practically can't be trained.

As i said in a later post, Qunari genetics may also work differently. There are several species in fiction and in nature where the genders of the species look like they belong to different species.

While sexy, you can't say she isn't muscular like the men.

This is what I would like female humans to look like since she looks like a counterpart to the human male body on DA (the tiny stick armed human women of previous games were totally unbelievable as warriors and rogues) I would like the female Qunari to be WAY bigger and beefier and look like they are part Ox like the male Qunari do. This would make them more interesting to me. Right now, the male Qunari look like a different species, and in that picture you linked females look like human women with slightly muscular shoulders. In the rest of the concept art they look like slim but toned human dancers.

Why would she be? Qunari are are not bred for combat roles while Qunari males are. After centuries of doing this, the men will be disproportionately bigger in musculature than the women will be.

That's not how selective breeding works. If a species is bred for size or muscle mass then the whole species will inherit those traits (although females to a lesser degree than males, they still get those enhanced traits).

Female qunari would need to be strong too though because they do all the farming, smithing, crafting, weapon making and making of construction materials and maybe the actual construction? (the wiki didn't seem to say who does that) so I would think they should look just as strong as their male counterparts because they're going to be using brute strength for some of those tasks at least as much as a soldier.

It will be interesting to see how the qunari females look in game compared to both their male qunari counterparts and the females of other races. Yeah, I would really love a CC demo now too. :D

And it must be practically a sauna year round where they live  ;)

 ^_^ ;) :D

So you want basically this, but with horns?
