Yeah, waiting until the very last game of a trilogy to even acknowledge that Femshep exists is just too little, too late.  Someone earlier in this thread also said that those Femshep trailers came out very late in the marketing campaign, which also gives the impression that she was an afterthought.  Plus they staged a beauty contest for her.  So no, I don't want the Inquisition to be anything like the ME3 campaign.  I don't want a year's worth of Inquisidude in our faces followed by one token video of Femquisitor.  If they must show Inquisidude more often to satisfy some desperate need to show the boys that they can play as boys, then fine.  But don't just slap her in there at the end long after the major media campaign has already cemented the male version in everyone's minds.

I'm just glad they did it at all. It's more than most companies do.

All great points, except, presumably, DAI's marketing is in the hands of EA's enormous marketing team. I imagine we'll get bombarded with media the closer we get to launch. EA's marketing blitz, basically, made to overwhelm people who are indecisive and on the fence. Too bad this tends to backfire spectacularly at times--BF4 allegedly had a marketing budget of a hundred million dollars.

And I'm sure we all remember...well, this: For those of you seeing that for the first time, that is really a trailer released for DAO. It's not a fan creation.

And don't forget that EA likes to blame insane little things on a game performing poorly, such as females being prominent on boxart.

Wow...I actually never saw that trailer. If I had seen that before my cousin got me to play DA:O (which became my favorite game btw) I would have just said "no way!" and never got into BW games. There is absolutely no substance there, all of the good features are hidden, I can't believe this is the same game that I loved. I don't get that kind of thing, why advertise a game in a way that makes it seems like it's something entirely different? If you make a game with roleplaying, story, choices, a rich world and characters, etc...show that. If you're going to advertise something that seems like a generic slashfest then...make a game that's a generic slashfest.

a great trailer for inquisition would be a mixed trailer of both femquisitor and manquisitor.

Something that should've happened in the first trailer.

The... hell.

It looks like a horrible, overused copy from typical hollywood action movies. /vomits

Well, technically it did. The first trailer has an Inquisitor stand up during a sandstorm that made it impossible to see if it was male or female.

Umm, except the cover, i didn't see an ambiguous inquisitor in the trailer. Care to share the trailer you're talking about?

I think the only reason they show the face is because they are using the voice in the trailer. And I like that they said they kept the helmet on to leave the face as much a mystery as possible with the canon outfit. Hopefully once they announce the voice actors and actresses they'll do a Femquisitor version.

They said they was hoping to show off the female and other races once they finished the CC

I look forward to it too. I want to see the customization options.

I never saw that trailer for DA:O, but I came late to the game (too busy playing ME!). But, yeah, the soundtrack doesn't do it much justice either. Although, Duncan... I do miss him :( he was a good mentor, along Anderson lines.

Is it just me, or do both that trailer and the Sacred Ashes trailer have more of a 1980s/early 1990s feel than something more recent?  Or, has gaming and advertising for games changed that much since 2009/2010?  Because... that wasn't really long ago at all... and yet, those trailers feel so very, very campy, or 80s cartoon.  Both of them.  They don't feel like something that came from 2009 or 2010.

I must say I like the direction the trailers are going in now.  They feel more cinematic, I can take them more seriously.  Perhaps EA is wisening up to the fact that most gamers aren't preteens anymore, that we come across a broad spectrum.  Now if they would only also acknowledge that women play these games, and be willing to advertise the games for what they are, and not bloody hack-and-slash games.  I mean there's plenty of fighting in DA:O and DA2, don't get me wrong, and yes, there's that blood splatter that I usually turn off because it's ridiculous to have my character blood-spattered mid-conversation...   And, I will be fair to DA:O because it was in development for around 6-7 years before it ever came out.  Perhaps that marketing campaign had already been planned at that point.  Still... it doesn't feel as recent as it was and even then both trailers would have felt outdated.  But, again, maybe that's just because I'm more used to the recent game trailers etc. that seem more cinematic, movie-like, and are more serious?

I think there's been a shift in how gaming is viewed, over the past decade and a half or so.  Many of the trailers are more serious, and less campy.  So there's hope for seeing more women in them, and hope that perhaps they will stop being afraid to market the plot and characters... Who knows?

Well I think there was a reason for the way this was marketed the way it was, it tried to look LOTR esc as well as action packed and movie like, while also going hey everyone remember those old rpgs you played like BG? yeah thats these. Also about this time games started experimenting with how to make games more cinematic, DA:O was one of those games that first tried that and this trailer shows its age, the other more CGI none game graphics trailers were better at expressing this but at the time this trailer came out it was amazing...

The games industry as well as computer tech in general has improved dramatically sense 2009 things are hitting the uncanny valley more often then they use to as well.

It still really feels like, from the tone of the trailers (the one on the last page, and Sacred Ashes), something that came from the 1980s.  I cannot shake that impression, even though I KNOW it isn't so because I preordered DA:O back in '09...

I had actually assumed/ was sincerely hoping that since they had Femshep trailers came out later that we would get Femquisitor trailers earlier.

Will probably get me shunned but I loved this similar trailer:

and it was what made me look into the game or bioware at all.

You lot are right though it completely misrepresents the game, I was miffed that the combat is nothing like those cutscenes and still think it's terrible.

I prefer cinematic trailers. Death metal/metal/screaming vocals leave me absolutely cold. I guess I'm supposed to feel pumped and badass, but most of the time it makes me indifferent and want to close my browser.

Probably just showing my age... heh.

I thought that was entirely the problem, that it was TOO cinematic. It consisted of nothing but cinematics. Bioware trailers tend to show nothing about the gameplay whatsoever. But not being cgi I kinda got tricked on this one. The inquisition trailer has lots of gameplay for a change.

I guess that's why multiple trailers exist. It's not unusual these days to have one focus on one feature, another trailer for a different feature , eg, story, gameplay etc. It's all about showing off your wares and reaching a maximum amount of possible product purchasers as possible. It's possible marketing budgets are likely bigger now than they have been in the past.

Woooooow. I've never seen that, and thank GOD I didn't. I never in a million years would have bought DAO, my favorite game on this planet, if I only had that trailer to go off of. It's abundantly clear that THAT particular marketing team had absolutely no idea what the game was about.

It's like Dragon Age: Battle of Helms Deep meets the porn parts of Spartacus, soundtrack provided by some guy living in his mom's basement. WOW.

Okay, so I had a couple hours to spare this Sunday afternoon and decided to see how easy it would be to make a trailer.

I'm pretty ignorant of most video packages.  I'm also not sure if it breaches any particular licences and so if I get asked to take it down, that's okay, I had fun making it and supporting the idea of seeing the lady inquisitor.

The point is, if I can do it in a couple of hours whilst my toddler naps, imagine what Bioware could do!!!

Great job!! I'm inspired to make one too now... Very nice music and pace and just enough text to explain the different options.

Thanks Mes!  I think the only place where I could improve it is a panning shot (at the beginning even though brief, you can still see it's the male inquisitor)  oh and the half arsed shots I have of the female models plus one I nicked from a comic showing the only official image of a female qunari I could find.  I found the music on the youtube database, they have a few to choose from, different styles/genres.  I went for 'cinematic, dark' some were a bit too electronic and didn't suit the fantasy element of Dragon Age.

Almost all of the DA2 trailers had gameplay, similar to the new DAI trailers. It's just the "Destiny" trailer that's CGI.

Granted, those gameplay trailers are still cinematically done, but it is in-game graphics at least.

Dragon Age Inquisition female inquisitor trailer

AND ROFL - I just noticed I spelt inquisition wrong in one of the last slides - DOH! :pinched:

And now corrected - I hope I don't find any more!

I agree with Mes I thought this was very well done, great job Bugsie!  :D

I was following the development of DAO but I had lousy internet so didn't actually watch most of the trailers around it's release date (who knew crappy internet would actually come in handy wow!) the only trailer I'd really seen was the one where Duncan talks about all the different possible wardens so I really got lucky though I knew from following it's development what it was going to be and that I'd like it. :P

Interestingly I'd heard about Mass Effect then as well but at the time there was talk of it being a console exclusive and there was only talk of male Shep even on official sites so much so that I thought they weren't doing a gender option in that game because they were apparently aiming for a different market. So I stopped paying it any attention and consigned it to the male shooter category of so not interested and focused on DA which was supposedly being aimed at more traditional fans... hmmn that may explain the marketing too they did talk a lot about DAO being the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate after all and they were... so last century  ;)

I just hope we get official trailers of female inquisitors and races soon and more images and footage as well so creative fans can make us extras as well. The best trailer of fem shep in my opinion was a fan made one as far as I remember and the only one for fem inquisitor so far is Bugsie's. :D

Hehe I avoided Mass Effect for the LONGEST time because, even after doing some self-motivated research, I still thought it was just another shooter with a male protagonist. The only reason I ever gave it a shot was because I knew it was from the same company that gave me Dragon Age.
