I'm quite the opposite. The more marketing tries to force their vision on me, the more my mind resists. I never played default Shepard and Hawke. And default Inquisitor starts to get on my nerves too. There is too much of him. And him looking like Sebastian doesn't help things either.

I'm going to wait and see if E3 will reveal something about race and gender selection. Because right now the situation is getting ridiculous, and sad.

I also know that I'm going to make sure my Ladies Inquisitors playthroughs will be uploaded for Bioware statistics. Getting tired of all the "wiminz don't really play games" bullshit.

I'm like that too. Is one of the motives I can't even start a run with a human noble (or a human period) in Dragon Age: Origins. so many people use the HN, that simply tryng that origin make me feel as if I am going with the mass. no way in hell I'm going to give another number to the statistic in favour of that origin!!!

I never use the default character too. It feel a waste, to me. And never a male for my first run (or second.) I may roll for a male only very later, and still never a human. In Origins I created a male dwarf just to see Morrigan's romance. I'm still sad that of all my first runs never make it to the stat, since I didn't had internet at the time. so only two of my elven girls, and the dwarf make it from my PS3 to the stat. :(

If they still don't show the lady inquisitor at E3 or if she is just a footnote or something while Dudebro McWhiteypants takes all the spotlight I forsee much wailing and gnashing of teeth, mostly from me T_T

I'm pretty sure this thread will become extremely active if that is the case. :)

But I'm hoping Bioware sees E3 as the perfect place to show off their 'next gen' character creator :D  so hopefully this thread will be a happy kind of active mid June.

It's not DAI related, but I thought I would link the announcement trailer of a new Bethesda/Battlecry studios game which focused on a female lead:

Soooo, Bioware/EA, your turn? =]

Dat.trailer.

Too bad it's multiplayer. Sigh.

See? Not so hard to do a trailer with a female.

Yeah, I don't know anything else about that game. Apparently it will be free to play as well? I just saw it on memebase and I thought I'd share, because it looked great.  :)

I'm choosing to be optimistic for E3. A big reveal where we get to hear one of her voices would be amazing. As would a showcase of the character creator. Heck, at this point I would get excited if they just talked about her (sadly).

I'm still miffed about the official website though. I can't wrap my head around why they don't mention gender choice there.

Looks like a sort of steampunk arena thing possibly with an evolving map like how Planetside 2 works.

Im pretty sure they will show female inquisitor in E3, and other races.

It is the biggest thing they can show without showing any type of spoiler, and give us a lot of info to make the hype keep growing until october.

Managed to dig up a video of female Vulcan from Bound by Flame. (came up a couple of pages back).

The Elf is one of the LI's as is Sybil (the one red at the end).

whoa. very good, and I see Bethesda name on.

Usually Beth is not very good at making clear either that you can play as a female character, since I discovered for Fallout 3 too from friends the choise of gender. (but I'm not really shure about it, since I didn't had internet at the time)

But I must admit, the Fallout 3/NW trailers where almost totally genderless. (the Fallout 3 teaser trailer still give me chills)

I think I'm going to look out for this game. (gh. I only have seen a little teaser trailer with some badass females characters, and I'm already interested. just as for the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer. but that how teaser trailer should work, no?)

I think a lot of fans are that way and get attached to the default. Me, I am in love with CCs and have never used a default if I don't have to. I also am sick to death of straight white human men in games so...yeah I wont be playing that guy. ^_^

PS I vote Lady Dwarf rogue, Lady Qunari warrior, or (soft spoken) male Qunari mage :D

PPS Gaiz I need to get a new computer so I can switch to PC gaming and record my playthroughs. :o

I almost never use the defaults either, but DA2 was an exception for me. While I did customize some FemHawkes, I was absolutely in LOVE with the look of the default FemHawke, so I usually just kept her look. Well, that and changing her wildly also changed the default look of Carver, Bethany, and Leandra to match the family relationship look, which was a very cool concept but also sorta creeped me out. LOL Not seeing their default looks felt weird. Sort of reminded me of how PC players mod companions to nearly unrecognizable versions and... as primarily a console player, I'm more used to and like playing the game "the way nature intended" for me, as a personal preference.

Also, yes, there are game capture cards you can hook up to console. I personally use an Elgato; it's how I did all my ME3MP videos. Cost me about $140 on Amazon and was pretty simple to hook up (once I watched YouTube videos on it because I am technologically dumb when it comes to OMG WHAT DO I DO WITH WIRES HURRDURR). I use it for my PS3, but it can also work on XBox 360 and has gotten updates to work with XBox One now. I believe a PS4-compatible upgrade is either coming soon or already out. Also comes with an editing software program for your computer/laptop that works well enough and even gives you expanded options such as adding voice-over commentary to videos or even live-streaming your gameplay via Twitch or any site like that, but I haven't explored anything past recording game footage, editing it, and uploading it.

As far as Lady Inquisitor, honestly, I'm most excited to eventually HEAR her. I wanna know what she sounds like! :) We can already surmise from Cameron Lee's hints that they'll show footage of a dragon battle at E3. Maybe (fingers crossed) they'll use a Lady Inquisitor in the party this time. Something in me would cheer wildly to see a Lady Inquisitor and her crew take down a dragon, and hear her bark orders or her battle cries/grunts. :D

Love the ready when it's done at the end of the Cyberpunk trailer. First time I've seen it.

Battlecry looks like an arena shooter type thing (think its Free to Play) with Borderland graphics. You can see some actual screenshots of the game if you follow the link I posted. Its nothing like the trailer unfortunately definately CG not engine.

Ahem... sorry i got a lil distracted. Carry on.

Though i'm hoping the defaults (of each race) look good so i won't have to customize because..... damn, it's quite hard for me to do that without taking me hours and f#ck up in the progress. :P

And two of the three images on the main page are of female characters!  And both factions contain a female character!  And one of the classes is represented by a female character!  Look at that, you CAN put women on your game website.

I may overcome my hatred of multiplayer for this game.  That trailer is a thing of beauty.

Your move, Bioware.

I think there's too much focus on the Inquisitor, the same way Sheperd or Hawke visually did to the point attempting to change the looks of the characters always felt off to do. Even then they only had the singular human only option. The fact we get to create our own character having the inquisitor shown off just constantly make me go "that wont be my Inquisitor. It's going to be a small elf mage, not this warrior that keeps being shown off" or if they shown it as a female I would still go "still not my Inquisitor. Mine will be a qunari etc etc"

It's supposed to be a blank slate, which is why the Inquisitor has a helmet on and you barely see anything with it while the box art is trying to be ambiguous as it can be. The gender of the Inquisitor is not supposed to be important because it's supposed to be an insert of what you want it to be.

It will never make anyone happy to have it a defined character when you can create your own character in game. It doesn't make sense to. They should have kept it silent and more hidden to the gender so then there is a lack of character association. If this was some other game with the only options being a male or female human again, then I would agree they should be balance it to have both genders, but this is supposed to be a full blown different race character creation game.

I can't stand multiplayer. I like to be in my own world while I game. My partner on the other hand is some sort of social gamer butterfly, he won't play unless its multiplayer.

Though this game does -almost- look pretty enough to try.

Right, I agree with you, but then why use this same white guy default for all marketing materials? If they really want to get across the idea that the Inquisitor is a blank slate and can be anyone you want, then the Inquisitor should appear different every time we see them in a new trailer or screenshot. Keep the helmet on them to obscure their features and identify them as the Inquisitor, but show us more than just the default white human guy.

If you look at Shepard (not so much Hawke) Iconic characters almost sell themselves. Especially with merchandising and the like.

I never played the ME games and I don't know anything about them really, so I don't get your point. Did they make merchandise of the default white male Shepard that a lot of people bought or something?

Isn't it more the N7 tag what's iconic instead of Sheploo?

I mean Shep's obsession with putting N7 on all his/her **** is what I think when I hear Shepard. I don't think of Sheploo.

Google Mark Vanderloo and Sheploo.

They scanned in a male model for the default face and it was higher quality than anything that you could custom make.

Okay, but what does that have to do with merchandising? And how it is applicable to this situation since Dragon Age ISN'T banking on the face of a known male model to sell its title (as far as we know. They certainly aren't using that as a selling point for DA, anyway)?

ME seems to be a merchandising powerhouse.  You can slap the N7 logo on anything and people will buy it.  The Bioware store has snowboarding gear for sale, for crying out loud.  But I don't think that's necessarily Shepard as much as the N7 logo and stripe being really appealing.  Most of the ME merch out there doesn't feature Shepard's face at all, although of course most of what does is Sheploo instead of Femshep.

But funny story, I was working a merch booth at a con recently, and we had N7 shirts with both male and female Shepard on them.  Every time I pointed out the Femshep to people, there were cries of delight.  "Nobody EVER does Femshep merch!"  I'd say the Femshep shirts sold out about as fast as the Sheploo ones, and the only thing keeping them from selling faster was that they were only available in women's cut (and as I discovered, many women prefer unisex).

Also, my buddy who owns that booth told me that Bioware had told him not to bother with DA merch.  DA merch doesn't sell, they said.  Especially not DA2.  I don't think that has anything to do with Hawke.  I think it has more to do with Origins not being iconic enough (other than the Blood Dragon, it's pretty generic fantasy-looking) and DA2 having such a poor reputation that even those who liked the game would rather not walk around in a shirt advertising that fact.  If DA2 had been better received, we'd probably see tons of merch with Hawke's face all over it.  I'm interested to see how DAI shapes up on the merch front.  They've got some solid iconography with the helmet and inquisitor logo.

Of course, this is one more reason why I'm bothered by the lack of female protagonists in the marketing.  The marketing informs the merchandise, so all-male protagonists in the marketing translates to all-male faces on the merch.
