Can't post with game registered

Will there be some sort of update to this forum that allows me to post for games that I have just started playing like dragon age origin. I can register the game at the old forum but it doesn't appear to update to this one. And if that is the case, what happens with other games purchased as they come out? Not being able to post keeps you from asking questions about things that might be helpful in the game.

If your game is registered, and you've played online, you should see it listed in your profile under your "Games" section. Having it registered at the old forum won't directly affect this forum at all, as they check for different things. This forum won't automatically show game icons for example, unless you manually link them to your profiles on the old BSN (under your Settings section in your profile).

Regarding new games, everyone should be able to post in the Dragon Age : Inquisition forums for now - once that game comes out, more strict restrictions might be added, but I wouldn't expect anything beyond what we already have for DA:O, ME3 or other titles.

Someone really needs to clarify that part once and for all.  Dozens of topics with the same issue.

This'd be much easier to everyone, if old and new forums shared 'games' section, really.

Currently some believe that you need to link old profiles manually (make the icons show up) in order to post,  some can not post  'with icons', I had not played anything but ME2 for a long-long time, I had not even launched them long before we moved here, I don't have 'icons'. Still, forum apparently recognizes all the games, and I can post.

  • +  Dragon Age 2
  • +  Dragon Age: Origins
  • +  Mass Effect 2
  • +  Mass Effect 3

So.

1. What is 'registered'? Bound to Origin (up and running)? Bound to the old BSN 'games' page? What about Steam users?

2. What is 'have played online'? Have played when? Once in a lifetime? After we moved?  What If some players prefer to play offline? What about console players with no online options?

If that's a bug (which it probably is) - how it IS supposed to work?

As you noted, the icons are completely separate from the ability to post - all they provide is a link to your account profile for those games, in the event you want to share your DA character, ME3 MP loadout, or other information.

By registered and online, you should just have had to have played once, while connected to the internet, and signed into your origin account. The games should prompt you for your account information when you first start them - once you've played online once, you should be fine for the future.

Steam users should be fine, as you would still be prompted for your EA account info when you launch the games for the first time from that service. It's also why ME1 and other earlier titles aren't in the list you posted, since there's no online component to track against or sign in with for those titles.

For people without internet and who have never played online as a result, it's something being looked at, but I don't know of any specific plan or ETA for changes to be made in their case.

I'm kind of confused here. Sorry for that. Basically, I'd like to post in the DAO forums and when I move to DA 2, I'd like to post there as well. What do I need to do to be able to do this. In the old forum it seemed that registering my Mass Effect game allowed this. So I thought that was the issue. Could you tell me what I need to do to be able to post in this forum under the DAO section that is not scuttlebut as I can post there, but not anywhere else. Thank you greatly.

You should basically have played DA:O and DA2 online, meaning your characters and profiles get synced into the old BSN.  At the bare minimum, make sure you signed into the game using your Origin account (and use that here).  That seems to be the way to clear the checks on this version of the BW forum.

Not sure what was wrong with the CD-key registration to begin with.

I just synced it up and I have achievements listed with the old forum. I don't have access to the forums still. Ah well, I can sift through the net instead. Too much work to be able to post in a forum for which I have the game. Not sure if it's the forum change, but I feel as though I should be able to post and seeing that I cannot, considering I do own the game and have been playing it, have earned achievements... well, I should be able to post. Makes no sense to me that I cannot.

I appreciate the help. Time to go play the game and forget about posting. Thanks!

Can you check on your Games Tab to see if the Dragon Age games appear?

I never logged in through the game before and have not completed logged in. I am near the end now and am logged in as I play. Is that the thing that should resolve this? Being logged in while playing and then finishing the game?

I don't think you need to finish the game logged in, but in general, you should log into the game (at least once?).  Then maybe after a short period of time, the forums will unlock.  Maybe.  I have Dragon Age but I've not bothered looking to see if I have access.

It is showing up now at the old forum. And I am connected through the game right now. This forum still says I cannot post which may be a time lag but I wonder if it is because new registrations in the old forum aren't carrying over to this one, which seems likely if it just transferred the data that was there at the time this forum was made and no longer does any sort of check to update. In that case, if that is the case, I guess they might have to find a way to incorporate the ability for people to update with games here on this forum if they choose to which they might not as they are older games.

Thanks! I've got a bit more to go to finish this game. Ashes, landsmeet, then final battle... I'll see if it changes then. Hopefully it will - part of the fun is asking and learning stuff I missed in the game on the forums for future playthoughs.

Thanks for the help!

The new BW forum checks your Origin account regularly.  Visit your user profile HERE and click on Games (onlineaccess_games link) and see if Dragon Age shows up.  It should.

No it's not showing up here. Just mass effect ones from before. I suspect that new data input to the old forum doesn't carry over here. It might have been done originally when it transferred to this forum, but after that, I suspect it doesn't update at this forum unless they create a way for people to do that here as they did at the old forum. They would logically have to do that at some point for the new DA if the forums are locked to users. I guess I'll see if finishing the game makes a difference.

Keep playing while being online.  It seems that whatever BioWare wrote is not picking up your DA games.  I think eventually it should sync.  Keep those fingers crossed!

It should only take a few hours for the new data to show here once you've played online, and it should be checking for new player data as well (both the old forums and the new ones use the same account).

I took the liberty of checking your account on the old BSN (I assume you're using the same account name), and while I see you registered Dragon Age: Origins, I don't see an account linked for characters on that site, which should be showing once you've played online.

It *might* be tied to having created a character while online (I'm not as familiar with the DA:O title specifically) but my understanding is that it should simply show there once you've played the game, signed into Origin in-game. It could be that the DA character servers are down - is there an option to "Activate Online Profile" or something similar for you on the old BSN games page when you view it? I had to click that once for my copy of DA2, long ago, before my account info would become in-sync.

I can now post in the DAO forums, and I didn't have to finish the game. It did crash on me so I did have to log back in which might have forced an update when I did not have the game running since I'm not sure how that works.  But it does appear to be updating, and I'm very happy about that! Thank you so much for helping with this. I really wanted to be able to inquire about things regarding the game that I couldn't find answers to elsewhere. Thanks again.

Given that the Online Storage Servers have been offline for at least a month, perhaps the reason that she had no characters showing up is because, despite playing the game, nothing is actually uploading and being stored on her profile?

That might be related, depending on what exactly those servers track for our telemetry data, vs. other servers.

In either case, I have an open bug about the issue reported in the other thread, and some other work for cases of specific users having this problem is still underway as well.

Jesus, all I want is for my games to appear below my avatar once I register them and to be able to post wherever I want. This is all really, really complicated and sad.

So I'll have to download DAO again and play it again on line so I can have it registered here? :/

Have you tried posting in DA section already? If you had already played being logged from the same account (once, long ago) - it should work as it is. Icons don't affect anything, and you don't need to play for them either.
