Why does everyone assume Cassandra still hates mages?

I notice on some threads how some people compare Cassandra and Cullen to have the same mindset. But after watching Dawn of the Seeker it seemed to me she let her hatred go, even admitting to galyan that he changed how she saw things.

Not to say she isn't wary of mages. That part is practically bred into any DA character not a mage, but I figured she would have mellowed on mages over the past decade, at least IMO.

What are your thoughts on her stance?

she might have, then anders blew up the chantry, so she might be a bit mad at mages again.

Because she is mad at hawke if hawke was mage and automatically assumes that hawke was pro-mage terrorist and big bad?

lol pretty much this, tho at the end of DA2 she at least finds out he isn't the 'big bad' and if anything it was going down hill fast anyway...

Tho so far all the outside characters doesn't mean it will translate into how they are in game, only the writers can tell you, but i really doubt anything will come out at least until companions are announced.

She seems to get on fairly well with Vivienne in the demo, and I think she's the sort of person whose view of someone would depend on their individual merits and actions, not if they were a mage or not. She seems to grow fond of Hawke after hearing of his/her heroic actions regardless of if they were a mage or not.

Why can't she hate mages? She clearly hates those mages who have rebelled but co-operates with those few who are left on side of Inquisition/Chantry.

This. She strikes me as the kind of person that would judge someone based on their individual merits, personality and actions, and act accordingly.

That said, I wouldn't have a problem if she didn't like mages. Not in the slightest.

It's been 18 years (in Thedas anyway) since the events in Dawn of the Seeker, clearly, she's done a lot of growing up, old prejudices may die hard, but they do die, my guess it's the same with Cassandra after working with Galyen, Avexus, and the rest of the White Spire (even though a good lot were killed in Asunder), though she may or may not still have those prejudices, even she knows better than to generalize a whole group based on the actions of one, especially after the crazy ish that went down in Kirkwall.

I have a feeling that Cassandra is going to get a fireball to the face in my play-through.

I always love playing as a mage since it's almost like the deck is stacked against you from the get go. I look forward to the convos with her in my party.

I'm not saying she can't hate mages, if she hates mages she hates mages. I'm just wondering if there a bit more to her like the comments above. I always found personal growth characters to be appealing in nature, like Cullen was from dao to da2

People have to be careful with the "hate mage" concept. There are various type of hate.

Cullen hates for mages is based on fear. This make him see them as not people, sort of like cursed monsters, that need to be mercy killed or locked up for everyone security.

Cassandra hated mages because some of them killed her brother. Her hatred was based on vengeance. She then grow up and realize that hating all of them wasn't "just". In Dawn of the Seeker, in a talk with Galayn, she was supportive of circle mages being more self-ruling even.

Does it really matter what her starting opinions on mages are?

If she is well written and interesting, it probably won't matter one way or another.

If she is whiny or annoying, well, you can always leave her out of your party, kick her out entirely if possible, etc.

I'm guessing that even if she did, she can be influenced to see eye to eye with the Inquisitor anyway.

She called Anders the "Warden" instead of the "mage", I think she does not care about mages.

Those damn godly powers of Persuasian. Can't beat it.

Well, besides the Illusive Man. But that's it, I think.

Actually Cassandra started pointing her blame finger at Knight-Commander Meredith for starting this war during Varrics interrogation. It was Varric that also pointed out that it could either be the idol or Anders. Her mindset was blaming Meredith, not Anders.

She hates blood mages with a passion I am sure. If anything I think she'll be mostly distrustful of apostate/ non circle mages. For obvious reasons

I agree that she certainly didn't seem to hate mages (in general) in DA2. She listened to Varric. She didn't end with "I knew it was the damn mages fault" but "so Meredith is to blame". I think she will be at least reasonable.

I also don´t think she hates mages. In the movie she definitely let the hatred go. And about DA2, I think she was not very nice about Hawke no matter what side he picked, she was angry because people died and not because she hated mages. (Also she maybe just played the bad cop?)

It seems to me, that maybe the fact she works for the Devine and Chantry could make people think she is also against mages, because a lot of people asume that when you are with chantry, you hate mages.

I don't think she hates mages. I do think she's had enough experience with dealing with mages of all temperaments to know that some are destined for trouble, while others are far more controlled.

Many mages who are destined for trouble, don't just harm themselves, but others in the process. She knows how to be weary without being hateful.

To be honest, I haven't watched the animation about her story-but I have taken the time to read about it and watch an analysis of the film.

From what little we were shown in DA2, she is a bit gung ho when she thinks she's right, but appears, to me at least to be more of a reasonable kind of person. Pragmatic. Cassandra will sit back and wait until she has all the details before coming to a final decision. She knows her duty but also knows there are times when exceptions must be made to further their chances of success. This is the impression I have gotten so far.

I'm just hoping that she is a reasonable, if tough person. Because I don't think I could stand another non-stop bickering match between Cassandra and Vivienne over who is right or who's side was maligned the most.

To be honest, she is shaping up to be one of my favorite characters. I'm not so keen on Vivienne though. I think it may be the Maleficent hat. It makes me think of a noble dressing up as a court Jester.
