I always love playing as a mage since it's almost like the deck is stacked against you from the get go. I look forward to the convos with her in my party.

I decided right off the bat to maximize my chances of p*ssing everyone off by starting out with a female qunari mage. And then eff them over by behaving in ways that go completely against their expectations. I'm somewhat perverse that way because being contrary is always fun.

I don't know about that.

I think Cassandra hates pretense and artifice.

Because she is mad at hawke if hawke was mage and automatically assumes that hawke was pro-mage terrorist and big bad?

That what people told her in orlais, but becouse she is a seeker she wanted to know the truth

Cassandra hated mages because some of them killed her brother. Her hatred was based on vengeance. She then grow up and realize that hating all of them wasn't "just". In Dawn of the Seeker, in a talk with Galayn, she was supportive of circle mages being more self-ruling even.

Yeah and since Vivenne is a circle mage (pro circle if I remember correctly) she will probably be perfectly fine with her.

<--- That guy might have a different relationship with her and Vivenne though.

I think Cassandra is cold, steely, but reasonable.  No reasonable person would outright trust mages or think them innocent at first.  Fact is, no one who shoots fire from their hand can be blindly trusted.  However, it does not make sense to imprison or mistreat those who cannot help what they are, especially if they've done nothing wrong.

I don't think she hates mages, but I don't think she loves them either.

I didn't get a mage-hating vibe from her tbh,at least not in DA2...She seemed very polite towards Vivienne in the demo as well.

I think she's smart enough to see that it's not a clear 'all mages bad, all templars good'. I think they also show that she hooks up with that mage in Dawn of the Seeker to show that she is not as prejudiced as she used to be. What she learns about mage Hawke from Varric (if he's good or bad) could also influence her views in Inquisition, who knows.

If by 'hook up', you mean a little chaste kiss on the cheek. But even so, yeah even in the film her hatred of mages was tempered.

I said 'hook up' because it was quicker than saying 'that character they had a start of a romantic movie scene with and also touched her thigh and they show her get flustered and it was implied they might have gotten together after the movie but we don't know for sure', okay? hahahah

Cassandra Pentaghast seems to be a woman who can think rationally and logically as well as judge someone based on their merits and abilities, given time to interact and be around the said mage.

I don't think Cassandra hates mages any more than she hates the Templars. She seems like someone who hates blood mages and red templars however.

She doesn't seem to hate mages but does seem to blame the circle dissolution for setting off them events that have put the age of the White Divine on the brink of collapse.

Plus the search for the Warden and Hawke comes off to me as grasping at straws since the Chantry no longer has the influence and backing to put the genies back into their bottles.

She distrusted them in the movie, but it was mostly because of Blood Mages. She did respect her mage companion though because he didn't use any blood magic type and was a good guy. I'm pretty sure she just hates blood magic.

She hates blood mages with a passion I am sure. If anything I think she'll be mostly distrustful of apostate/ non circle mages. For obvious reasons

Perhaps. While "Dawn of the Seeker" showed that she originally had a fierce hatred of blood mages, and disliked mages in general, it seems to have grown a lot less pronounced by the time of DA2.

Specifically, she seems to have no more contempt for Merril than any of the other companions. And she has no negative reaction to Hawke being a blood mage either (this, of course, could be purely story and gameplay segregation, but still).

While I doubt she has any fondness for blood magic it seems to me that, like many other have mentioned, that she judges people more on their individual merits, personality etc. than any overarching notion such as being a mage, or perhaps even being a blood mage.

I don't think she hates mages anymore like she used too. Dawn of the Seeker changed that. But she may be mad at Anders because of him blowing the chantry to hell.

I'm guessing that even if she did, she can be influenced to see eye to eye with the Inquisitor anyway.

Hopefully.

I want her to do a 180 and go back to hating Mages.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I'm not sure why you'd want this for her in the first place.  I'm sure you'll get your mage hating companion in some fashion.  Not her though.

Cassandra's gone through this wonderful thing called character growth and development.  In life, there's this equally wonderful thing called growing up and letting go.  I doubt they are going to regress Cassandra back to a "mage hater," so you should probably just accept who she is now.  From the EU as well as the PAX demo, it's quite clear she doesn't hate mages, although I'd bet she has a healthy sense of caution and alertness around them.

I have a strong feeling that the fandom doesn't know the difference between "Mage Hater" and "Anti-Mage Freedom". Apparently, if someone doesn't support the full and unfettered freedom of the mages, they are horrible people and hate mages.

Never mind the fact that of all companions we have come across there have been a grand total of FIVE Mage Freedom companions. Two of which are Dalish so their version of Mage Freedom is: "Leave us alone, shem". The others? Morrigan, Isabela, and Anders. That's it.

Wynne? Pro-Circle. Malcolm raised his kids too thoroughly, they know the dangers mages can succumb to: Carver and Bethany? Pro-Circle. Alistair? Doesn't trust mages who live outside the Circle farther than he can throw them (not just Morrigan clashing either, he is against all things Jowan). Sten? Super Anti-mage because... QUN. He may not discuss it with the Warden, but QUN IS QUN. He was very QUN. Leliana is working for The Divine soooo SUPER PRO-CIRCLE. We all know where Fenris falls. Aveline is pro anything resembling law and order so she is Pro-Circle with the exception of the Gallows.

So, unless you hate every single one of those companions... I propose there might be other reasons why someone dislikes a Pro-Circle character...

...Do you have proof that just because Leliana works for the Divine she's "soo super pro-Circle?"  I know that the current Divine is actually pretty sympathetic towards mages.

The rest of your companion views I can certainly agree with, but the Leliana one puzzles me.

I think Leliana is very sympathetic to Mage cause, in fact.

Like when we do the Broken Circle quest and she consoles the Mage that mentions how the Maker hates them and things along the lines of that.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought too.  There is a good chance that Leliana might agree with the Circle system, but I can't see her being "soo super pro-Circle."

Besides, then there is the whole aspect to her that has her own vision of what the Maker wants.   I'm not sure if Leliana ever got into her feelings about the Circles one way or the other.  It's been a bit, but my memory is telling me no.
