Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought too.  There is a good chance that Leliana might agree with the Circle system, but I can't see her being "soo super pro-Circle."

Besides, then there is the whole aspect to her that has her own vision of what the Maker wants.   I'm not sure if Leliana ever got into her feelings about the Circles one way or the other.  It's been a bit, but my memory is telling me no.

Nope, I don't recall either. She never seemed too into politics, to me.

She was just a genuinely nice person that wanted better for people in general.

I think Leliana is very sympathetic to Mage cause, in fact.

Like when we do the Broken Circle quest and she consoles the Mage that mentions how the Maker hates them and things along the lines of that.

...Do you have proof that just because Leliana works for the Divine she's "soo super pro-Circle?"  I know that the current Divine is actually pretty sympathetic towards mages.

The rest of your companion views I can certainly agree with, but the Leliana one puzzles me.

While she might be nice to mages within the Circle, I never encountered her saying anything about mages being mistreated or her calling for mage freedom in any way. While the Divine might be sympathetic, she isn't clamoring for mage freedom either. When Lelianna comes to "quell the conflict" in Kirkwall, her concern seemed to be more for the Reverend Mother. It might be me, but if she was worried for the mages in the matter, would she also not have made an effort to warn Orsino of the dangers of the blood mages running loose in the city and how that could make Meredith a little more... Meredith?

Yes, she is a nice person and wants better for people, but I wouldn't call her Team Freedom either. Unfortunately.

She didn't warn Meredith either.  Her main concern seemed to be the Grand Cleric's life, not so much on the Templar/Mage fight.

That's why I had said Leliana could be in favor of the Circle system, but we can only assume her thoughts on the matter.  She really doesn't discuss it much either way.

Well, Leliana also helps the mages out in Asunder, but that could simply be on the Divine's orders.

True, but if Leliana felt strongly against it she could just pull a Lambert.

Ah, I haven't read that yet. Still working my way through The Calling. ;)

So, I might've been off about Leliana being soooo Pro-Circle, mostly because she never says anything bad about anyone really, but she still can't be labeled Team Freedom. =p

True. And I'm sure Justinia would prefer to send someone more sympathetic to the mages in a mage rescue mission.

In any case, it doesn't appear that either Leliana or Cassandra have any real hatred of mages.

Maybe, and maybe in DA:I we'll have enough evidence to label her Team Freedom.

Cass isn't much of a people person. Although, as a Seeker she kind of has to see the worst in people.

To me, at least in her movie, she seemed sort of like a people person? Maybe just the people she worked with.

She's definitely a no bs type of person.

If that whole thing about "more human sides" is true, we'll probably never get a companion who's more anti-mage than Fenris.

I have a strong feeling that the fandom doesn't know the difference between "Mage Hater" and "Anti-Mage Freedom". Apparently, if someone doesn't support the full and unfettered freedom of the mages, they are horrible people and hate mages.

Never mind the fact that of all companions we have come across there have been a grand total of FIVE Mage Freedom companions. Two of which are Dalish so their version of Mage Freedom is: "Leave us alone, shem". The others? Morrigan, Isabela, and Anders. That's it.

Wynne? Pro-Circle. Malcolm raised his kids too thoroughly, they know the dangers mages can succumb to: Carver and Bethany? Pro-Circle. Alistair? Doesn't trust mages who live outside the Circle farther than he can throw them (not just Morrigan clashing either, he is against all things Jowan). Sten? Super Anti-mage because... QUN. He may not discuss it with the Warden, but QUN IS QUN. He was very QUN. Leliana is working for The Divine soooo SUPER PRO-CIRCLE. We all know where Fenris falls. Aveline is pro anything resembling law and order so she is Pro-Circle with the exception of the Gallows.

So, unless you hate every single one of those companions... I propose there might be other reasons why someone dislikes a Pro-Circle character...

Wynne joins the rebellion.

Both Warden siblings support the mages in The Last Straw, and CircleBethany says that the Maker has called her to help free her fellow mages.

Alistair either declares the Circle free or hides fleeing apostates.

Leliana helps out the protagonists in Asunder against the templars.

So only Sten, Aveline and Fenris are really against mage freedom.

Oh, sorry for the spoiler then.

No worries. I am slowly (because work and other video games) making my way through them. It took me a bit to get The Stolen Throne going too.

Ah, another Asunder spoiler =p

Technically, the Hawke siblings support Hawke no matter what, if alive. I think?

Which one are you on? The Stolen Throne was really good, but I've seen mixed reviews for all of those books.

I forgot Sten is against mage freedom

Didn't get that impression from Carver at least and I didn't have Bethany for my Pro-Circle Hawke run. I just remember her turning herself into the Circle.

My point remains, I think a lot the fandom is too harsh on characters they deem to be "anti-mage" like Cass, Cullen, and Fenris. Even when they either by their own characterization, have very strong and compelling reasons to feel the way they do. I don't care for that dismissive attitude. But then, I personally like it when characters challenge the protagonist. ;/ Unrepentant Kaidan/Ashley/Carth/Fenris/Anders... well... everyone... lover here.

I need it to get to the juicy bits, I think. It's still busy doing that "You didn't know anything about Duncan so here is his gritty origin story" thing.

It's quite possible for us to love someone as a character and hate them as a person.

That is not a distinction that is always conveyed well on the internet.

Then allow me to say that, of the various characters I've spewed vitriol at, I've never felt any were truly bad characters; those, I tend to just gloss over and sometimes pity.

I agree, less characters that kisses the ground and ass of the PC the better
