Hey,

I'm currently playing ME3 for the first time with a Charge-Nova Vanguard. It's absolutely fun. But I'm thinking about other classes and builds I want to give a try once I completed my first PT or I get bored. I want to try builds who differ a lot from what I've already played, something like a melee (only) char and a Sniper Infiltrator.

So, my question is:

What are the different (effective/powerful) playstyles a class can achieve?

Thanks in advance.

Considering the game mechanics of ME3, it is almost impossible to come up with a build that is not effective in some way. For the most part, you can pick any three or four powers per class (including a bonus power) and come up with an effective build.

When I have more time, I will try to compile a short list.

Thanks. I try to play all six classes but I want to play something different each time. For example I assume that playing a Sentinel/Engineer/Adept is about the same if played "conservatively". Though I read in another thread that a Sentinel is a good class to go melee. So now I only have to think about how I want to play the two remaining classes.

Here are some of the varied builds/playstyles you can use with each class.

NOTE 1: At level 60, you can max all but one talent tree, and that last talent tree still has rank 4 with 3 points left over. But for the most part, you will only be using 3-4 powers with each class (including bonus power), so 2-3 powers will rarely or never be used.

NOTE 2: I will list the power used, but will only list the evolutions I think matter the most for the build to work

Soldier builds:

Most common Soldier:

Incendiary Ammo: Explosive Burst at rank 6. Recommend squad bonus at rank 4

Adrenaline Rush: All ranks are personal preference, but I think most take Bonus Power at rank 6

Concussive Shot: Amplification at rank 6

Bonus power: Fortification, proximity mine, Energy Drain

Weapons: use whatever you want. Everything works.

* All other powers are just a bonus

Sniper Soldier variant:

Disruptor Ammo: I go for Damage

Adrenaline Rush: I prefer damage and duration

Bonus power: I prefer Fortification for the damage protection and power damage (affects ammo power damage)

Weapon: Kishock (DLC). Can one-shot shielded enemies, guardians through shields without piercing mods

* I also take Incendiary Ammo for max damage (versus armor) and squad cryo for squad

"Bulletless Soldier" (something I have been playing around with the last few days because I was bored):

Incendiary Ammo

Concussive Shot: Amplification at rank 6

Frag Grenades

Bonus power: Energy Drain specced for maximum damage

Weapon: Pistol or SMG with a Power Amplifier mod (Citadel DLC required)

Armor: As much power damage as you can

Playstyle: use only powers to take down enemies.

Engineer builds:

Best Engineer (in my opinion):

Sabotage: Tech Vulnerability at rank 6

Overload: I prefer all damage and Neural Shock; some prefer Chain Overload evolutions

Incinerate: I prefer all damage and armor damage; some prefer radius

Tech Mastery: All power damage

Bonus power: Fortification (durability and power damage) or Defense Matrix (power damage) or AP Ammo (damage)

* All other powers are just a bonus

Drone Master Engineer:

Combat Drone: shields and rockets for damage, OR the other evolutions for more crowd control

Sentry Turret: I prefer Shock, Cryo Ammo, and Flamethrower

Tech Mastery: Drone Mastery at rank 6

Bonus: Defense Drone specced for Radius, damage and radius (because Fire Rate is bugged), Chain Lightning

Puppet Master Engineer:

Combat Drone and/or Sentry Turret

Sabotage: I would still take Tech Vulnerability at rank 6

Bonus power: Dominate (Leviathan DLC), I prefer it specced for vulnerability (not weapon damage)

Multiplayer (MP) Style Engineer:

Overload

Incinerate

Conbat Drone

Bonus: AP Ammo

Adept builds:

Most common Adept:

Singularity (ignore Explosive Singularity at rank 6; not worth it) or Pull

Warp

Throw

Biotic Mastery: go for power damage

Bonus: Warp Ammo or Barrier/Fortification. Some people take Energy Drain

* All other powers are just a bonus

Vanguard Builds:

Most common Charge-NovaGuard:

Incendiary Ammo

Charge: Radius > Weapon Damage > Barrier

Nova: Half Blast and Pierce

Bonus power: Reave or Fortification

Chargless NovaGuard:

Nova: Half Blast and Sustain

Incendiary Ammo

Pull

Shockwave

Bonus: Reave works good. I have seen a guy use Inferno Grenades as well

ME1-style Vanguard:

Pull

Shockwave

Incendiary Ammo

Bonus: Carnage

Weapons: pistol and shotgun only; restricted to Carnifex, Predator, Katana and Scimitar

Decided to split the post into two so it is not so much reading.

Infiltrator Builds:

Sniper Infiltrator:

Cloak: Damage and Sniper Damage

Disruptor Ammo: Max Damage

Operative Mastery: Weapon Damage and Sniper Damage

Bonus: Fortification for rank 5 Power Damage

Weapon: Javelin can one-shot shielded enemies at a high enough rank with this build. All other sniper rifles work too.

Any weapon Infiltrator:

Cloak: Damage

Bonus: Marksman, Proximity Mine, or Energy Drain

Power-damage Infiltrator:

Sabotage: Tech Vulnerability

Incinerate: Armor damage rank 6, unless using Cryo Ammo specifically to freeze enemies

Cloak: Damage, Free Power

Operative Mastery: Max power damage

Cryo Ammo: Squad, Combo damage

Bonus: Energy Drain or Fortification

Weapon: Viper is great if wanting to freeze with Cryo Ammo consistently. I also like using shotguns; the Wraith or Eviscerator is good with this build

Sentinel builds:

Typical Sentinel build:

Warp

Throw

Overload

Tech Armor

Bonus power: Fortification (for more power damage and durability), Lash

Biotic Bomber and Walking Tank Sentinel:

Throw: Reset on Detonate,

Lift Grenades: Damage, grenade count, damage

Tech Armor: Max durability

Bonus: Fortification for max durability and shield recharge

Weapon: Whatever you want, because screw cooldowns!

Armor: shield and shield recharge

MP-style Human Sentinel:

Warp

Throw

Tech Armor

Bonus: Warp Ammo

MP-style Turian Sentinel:

Overload

Tech Armor

Warp

Bonus: Warp Ammo or AP Ammo

Other Adept Builds I missed earlier:

MP-style Human Adept:

Shockwave

Warp

Singularity

Bonus power: Warp Ammo

MP-style Drell Adept:

Pull

Cluster Grenades

Bonus power: Reave

Some other Soldier builds I missed earlier:

MP-style Human Soldier:

Adrenaline Rush

Concussive Shot

Frag Grenades

Choose and use one ammo type

MP-style Battlefield oldier:

Adrenaline Rush

Frag Grenades

Bonus: Carnage

At this point in time, for anyone who has played single player for any length of time, it is all about stupid, off-the-wall builds or playstyles to try to make it interesting. the mechanics of the game + too many (way too good) powers and weapons for each class can make single player rather easy and uninteresting at times. I am all for trying stupid off-the-wall stuff at this point.

Thanks for your great work. I think I've got an idea how to build some of my characters. Good job.

One more Engineer build:

MP-style (Female) Quarian Engineer:

Cryo Blast: Radius > Vulnerability > Cryo Explosion

Incinerate: Frozen Vulnerability at rank 6

Sentry Turret

Bonus Power: AP Ammo

* For weapons, I like using the Claymore, but you can use whatever you want.

My favorite build in the single player is a melee only Sentinel, played without firing bullets (including bosses).

Weapons don't matter for the build so I use whatever weapons are pretty looking and can have a melee mod attached.

Tech Armor and Fortication (bonus ability) are specced for max damage resistance. Fitness is specced for melee synergy (more damage resistance for heavy melee kills).

I basically alternate using Cryo Blast and Overload depending on the situation to stun and freeze enemies so I can run up melee.

Worked amazingly once I got the tempo down. The hardest part are the bosses as you have to avoid the grabs and they take a while to whittle down.

Favorite class: Engineer with maxed out Lash that penetrates through shields, (pretty much use Lash with any class I play because of versatility.)  Carry the M8 (M7 once I get it) cause of light weight (max recharge) and fast rate of fire.  I use tech and biotic explosions constantly with my companions so I don't fire my rifle all that much.  Actually the only shot(s) you have to fire at all through the game is on Mars with Dr Eva.  Once upon a time before I knew how to use tech/biotic powers, I only played Soldiers and Infiltrators.  Can no longer play them...find it too boring.

Just got done with a sniper infiltrator run, which was fun. Especially once I got my hands on the Black Widow. Javelin is powerful too, but I preferred having multiple shots before having to reload. In ME2 the Widow was brilliant too, big freaking sniper cannon, really put the BOOM in BOOM headshot! xD Collecting as many spare ammo bonuses as possible because sniper rifles tend to have very little extra ammo. In most fights I could pick off powerful enemies from a great distance. I had Slam as a bonus power for enemies that came too close too quickly (goddamn husks D:) though there is probably a better one for that, I mostly picked it for RP reasons. Had tremendous fun in Armax arena on the trains map, placing my squadmates on the train the enemies were spawning on then cloaking and running across to the other train and from then on it was just a shooting gallery. Mind that I do play on Casual difficulty though. xD
